I agree. If Manufacturers can lie about emissions and fiddle electronics, and lie about MPG figures for decades they can probably lie about EV miles capability. Just another example of an industry screwing and shafting its customers then shutting them out.

If you looked at the headline mpg figure for your car, multiplied it by the capacity of your fuel tank in gallons, then compared that figure to the mileage you're actually getting from a tank of fuel, you'd probably discover that your mileage was far less than the range you'd calculated.
The difference being that refuelling is relatively quick and there's an established network of fuel stations, so you're very rarely too far from being able to refuel, so 'range anxiety' is not really a thing with ICE vehicles.

Nobody pays attention to mpg figures on a new ice car purchase, not really, as they know they will NEVER have range anxiety.
BUT, I would wager that EVERYONE who is buying a new EV, one of the 1st (if not THE 1st) questions they will ask is " What range will the battery give?"😂😂

I bought my EV just over 8 years ago, it has now still only done slightly more than 40 k miles, yet the battery degradation is 42%. It has never been rapid charged too much or left at 100% for long periods, which is the normal retort when degradation occurs. The fact is all EV lithium ion batteries degrade with time and use cycles. It is just what they do. I was curious about EV's, but my curiosity has now been satisfied. The result is that in my experience, EV's are just not fit for purpose, and I will never buy another EV ever again !
What brand is it? Nissan leaf with the air cooled battery?

Doesn't really matter which model it is, degradation of the compound of the batteries is a given, FACT!
It just is and no argument about it.
Whether it is a tesla or a leaf, they all degrade through time.
Supercharging your battery just helps it degrade quicker.
So, the small difference in time you save charging shall ultimately cost you more in the long run when you need a new battery.

@@WeeShoeyDugless agreed 👍 but you have to also realise that because Tesla is connected all the time they gather that data and use it to adjust the bms. They have proven to be pretty robust and I am hoping that the lfp cars are even better. Mine is sitting at 4% after 74000km. If it does 300,000km before dropping before dropping to 10% I’ll be happy. Not disagreeing with you though
@@paulsimpson8990 agree with your opinion. Reading the other comments it's as if ICE cars are perfect, work well in the cold, suffer no degradation and cost nothing. Many years and 40-odd cars down the line I can tell you that's absolute b*ll*cks. Example - I've just replaced the knackered front suspension on one of my other (ICE) cars and that cost almost as much as an EV battery!. Don't even start me on engine troubles..
I also have an EV, I did my homework before buying and I'm very happy with it.

I'm 57, and I can remember a science class that I was in when I was 15, and the talk was about electric cars. One of my mates said, and it sticks with me to this day, "I hope I'm gone by then". He's still with us, but yes, they weren't wanted before they became a thing. I'll never own one.
I'm still driving a 5.0L V8 and I'm happy . I'll never own an EV.
I’m 59 and love my 2021 MYP. In my science classes I dreamed of a high tech future and Tesla delivers.
The Dream of a high tech Car is just way too Expensive for me, Too expensive at the time of purchase, at the time to repair, at the Public chargers, or at my Insurance office, at my home. Etc. Sorry we don't want them. ICE has a proven record of being cheap and reliable. I can install anything Hitech I want that won't track me.
@@ImLivinSD you clearly do not know what you’re talking about. With up to 3000 more parts than an EV, it won’t be too long before ice vehicles become prohibitively expensive to own and maintain. My model Y has been the absolute least expensive car that I’ve ever had to maintain over my 45 years of driving.

Nobody TOLD me to buy my EV. I studied what type of car that we need at present, I think that I am over revving up the V8 at the lights and leaving two black lines along the road. I love a steady run now, no need to rush anywhere and I love my lattes. So I thought that I would try an EV, at the moment I think it is costing me in "fuel/energy" just over 1.5p per mile. On the other hand the Merc costs me around 25p per mile just on petrol. Here is something to ponder ! my EV will slow itself down to the speed limits and roundabouts etc, without myself using the brakes, does that mean the disc's and pads will last longer ?

The political class - Labour. Tory, Lib Dem, SNP, Green - are in denial too. Only Reform and SDP have not drunk the BEV koolaid. The manufacturers went along with it too because they smelled easy bucks as everyone had to replace their ICEs. Even Autocar, for more than a century the petrolheads' weekly has lost its way. But now the revolt is under way. The buyers are wising up to all the net zero bullshit from the political and trade liars.

The dealers are not in denial, they are getting big fines because they aren’t hitting the government imposed sales for EV’s each month. They know the cars aren’t the answer.
I have a Renault Austral hybrid, I get just under 800 miles per 55 litres of petrol thanks to the hybrid being in use most of the time when town driving. I just turned up the recharge a couple of notches to create more energy regeneration.
Only a fool buys an EV, they always quote it’s cheaper to charge at home and it is but, it takes hours to recharge to get your 200 or so range. Not exactly handy if for any reason you need to go out again just after plugging in your car is it? Whereas I can refuel in under 5 minutes every 6 weeks or so.
Dealers are stuffed. I suspect a lot of franchises are wondering how long they can stay in business. Labour are going to bring back the 2030 ban. 5.5 years is not very far away.
When they test mileage, no wind, hills, acceleration, heater, A/C, wipers, radio, turn signals, headlights, heavy loads like potting mix, passengers, so when the elderly man wants the dealer to explain. The dealer should tell him sorry sir, mileage claims on new cars are a total lie.
My modern petrol car with fuel injection and an ECU gets 35-40 mpg if I drive really carefully. Yet my 1981 Triumph running on carbs gets over 50 mpg without even trying. None of this fancy fuel saving technology seems to work.

What it is , is fancy EMISSIONS saving technology which does not make the engine significantly more fuel efficient.
A car from 1950 could be just as fuel efficient BUT it was running an a type of petrol that modern cars couldn't handle now AND putting out massively higher amounts of toxic emissions that at current engine numbers globally would have the world choking in air pollution.
Plus, modern cars have been getting bigger and heavier AND the current change from saloons to much less aerodynamic SUVs has also made cars even less fuel efficient than they were 20 years ago.
So you can say that cars are not dramatically more fuel efficient than 70 years ago but it's at the cost of much cleaner air and a healthier environment.
But also yes, the industry doesn't give a shit about any of this if they weren't forced to do it, they certainly wouldn't. And the industry led fad for less aerodynamically and fuel efficient SUV's is just one example of this

Once Macron is gone, the Paris accord will fall and all regulations for pushing full electric by 2035 will be cancelled... It is impossible to anyhow even provide electricity if all cars where electric, you would need 1 EXTRA nuclear power plant per every 1.5 million citizens, (which is di per se an utopia)
The downside though is that used car market especially like the 911 will tank by 70 % (one third of current asking prices), but the good news is that new car prices will also fall down as consequence.
The whole thing about electric vehicles was about that if you owned a petrol car after 2035, you could only purchased it o the used market from private citizen to private citizen, so not even through dealers AND IF YOU DID BUY AN ELECTRIC VEHILCE>>>> WELL YOU WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BUY ONE BUT ONLY RENT.
This is all history now and by 2026, the law amendments will come in place and the whole EV BS will be gone for good.
I would NEVER buy a second hand EV - even if it had a dealers lifetime battery guarantee! you just do NOT know how that battery has been treated. Kerb your car - the battery might have been affected. Run over some debris on the road, or down a pot hole? - the battery might be damaged. There is no way I would want that spontaneously explosive vehicle any where near my house. There are more than enough videos out there to show these things can go from smoke to explosive flames in under two minutes. And the government is forcing disabled people to have them as disability cars!!! In a wheel chair? dont worry about getting out of hte house, the extremely toxic smoke will get you first.

@@OM617a . That’s if your house has a charger capable of that output - most home chargers in the U.K are 7KW. The average daily mileage is about 20 in the U.K so for many a top up for one hour per day or one overnight charge per week.

As soon as you take electric cars out of their ideal operating conditions , the fact your car runs on batteries makes itself known very very quickly , and we have a family member with an Ev and this is fact.
If you have one of the more costly Evs with a huge battery , you can get by just for general duties , but again , they are a one trick pony , if you regularly cover a lot of miles , or tow , EVs suck.
If you have to have an Ev for commuting and still wanted to do all things an ICE vehicle can do very well, you would have an Ev for the short commutes , and an ICE vehicle specific for your needs to do the heavy lifting .
If. You are a one car family that needs a versatile vehicle that wont falter in heavy or adverse conditions , most EVs are not suitable for use case imo.
Like your opening example, similar experience with my Renault Zoe and my replacement MG5 second generation. Stated range is not the actual range . Summer range is not maintained in the winter months when temps drop to 0c to 10c. Car garaged overnight. This is blatant misrepresentation by the dealer/manufacturer. My driving style is old git in Eco mode. We need a class action for each offending manufacturer.
Off you go then. All you have to do is disprove the industry standard WLTP formula and show it to be deliberately misleading. Or you could try to understand the laws of physics.

False claims are a crime in some countries.
I own two EV cars and one Electric motorcycle. Over 4 years of driving, no issues to report. Took a trip to Florence Italy from the UK again no problems. My experience has been wonderful even my wife would not go back to ICE and she could care less about fuel propels the vehicle. For us EV’s make sense and has enabled us to use our cars to go where we want without worrying about fuel costs. I say choose what suits you best.
Don't worry, we'll continue to pay the difference between the TRUE cost of you EV and the fuel it uses.
We'll do that because even though we are not remotely interested in the Green Dream - we HAVE NO OPTION.

Why would you buy a car with the most reliable components removed?
I've had lots of French cars and they've all been 100% reliable and cheap to run.
All of them were small petrol hatchbacks.
Add to that the number of insurance write offs caused by relatively minor damage to battery enclosures requiring replacement batteries. It's going to be quite a while before I consider going electric.

You can get stress for free, why would you want to pay for it by purchasing a battery powered car?
Batteries perform even less well when the weather is cold. A lot less well.
It's not that bad probably 20-30 miles difference. I leave with 80% get back with 54% anyway after driving 100miles. Sometimes I get back with almost 200 miles still. I drove 168 miles after charging to 100% and still had 50% left.

@ Charon ? I have heard / seen info that a lot of the RANGE figures are outright LIES! And notice that the EV stickers only give 1 range figure while ICE vehicles give MPG for CITY driving versus OPEN ROAD!

I've owned 5 straight 6 BMWs. One petrol, and four diesels. Loved all of them. Brilliant engines. Now I have a BMW i4 and it's fantastic. Had it for nearly 2 years, without a single issue, unlike a few Tesla owners I've seen on youtube.

I retained my petrol car at the start of all this and as it is a Toyota it is still running perfectly. I have no plans to change until the current nonsense is resolved

Heres one from Australia. From Sydney to Tamworth is 400km. My 4ltr ford falcon will easily cover this distance in approx. 5 hours(with a 30 min break for toilet/food) and still have about 150/200kms left in the tank. This is driving at the posted speed, 110 kms on motorways and 100kms on open road. I have not heard of an EV that manage that distance in one bite. This is on main highways. More outback roads and you may well be looking at 2, 3, 4 hours between garages who will not have EV charging points and are unlkkely to get them put in any time soon. This is food for thought in a county like Austrslia.
Lol. 400 km is only 248 miles. I can easily do that in my i4, and still have 50 miles left in the "tank". If I stop for a 30 minute break, and charge at the same time, I will have 150 miles (240 km) left in the "tank" at the end.
They are actually putting solar charging stations throughout the outback but stuff i will stick to my V8 Caprice which i get 800 kilometres to t tank on a trip and a few minutes to fill

Looking to the future I can see a lot of EV's being 'stolen' or 'trashed' if you catch my drift. This is not a suggestion nor offering an exit plan for some, But I really think with the Insurance Premiums on EV's being thru the roof, I think the Insurance industry are already ahead of this. That's also why all us petrol and diesel folk are paying thru the nose with renewal premiums being up 40 to 50% on last year. The NON EV drivers are already paying the cost of the failed EV EXPERIMENT. We have ALL been shafted.
When the manufacturers come up with the idea of ev's, do they think " how brill an ev" and then go off like a bolted horse into the future and realise years later that a horse would go further.

How can he call himself a engineer when he gets a EV?
As an engineer he'd be aware that EVs are just from a physics perspective far more efficient with energy, and ICE car wastes 70% of it's energy producing heat and noise and with around 2000 moving parts ( that often go wrong) whereas an EV is around 90% efficient at using energy with only around 20 moving parts.

EVs use more energy then ICE cars and are worse for the environment (unless you found and electricity Fairy). They also are 2 to 3 times more likely to breakdown and are very difficult and expensive to repair. But if you want to keep getting your boosters, nobody can stop you.
I’m a mechanical engineer and my Tesla model 3 gets the exact range as advertised over 74000km. His only mistake was buying a Renault. The issue is that not all electric cars are created equal and Tesla has a 10 year jump on most of them when it comes to efficiency, functionality, technology etc. Car companies have had 100+ years to copy each other so the engineering is pretty similar these days although a Kia is still a long way behind a bmw when it comes to efficiency. No different for EVs, brands vary

I live in Tasmania, Australia, and if you own an electric car, you are shit out of luck when it comes to changing .
On a trip to Western Australia, we came across 20 electric cars on the side of the road with no battery charge left in the car.

I own an EV and I do not recognise the issue Mr Beswick has. I was a total sceptic about EVs and still am to a point, however, I decided to try it. The car range given is 300 miles however it's usually around 250- to 275 depending g on the type of road and speed plus weather. I use the Car every day for business covering around 100-120 miles a day, & and for usual domestic use I am averaging about 4.2 Miles to the Kwh, so how far do you need to go on a charge, Since I had the car 18months ago the infrastructure has massively improved, especially on Motorways & in towns. In fact, as the car has aged battery performance has got better. In fact, try this one I recently went to Scotland on Holiday for 1500 Miles, no issues with range or charging, I do agree with the longer journeys you have to plan, I try to have a lunch break whilst it charges which takes from 40% to 90% about 40 mins. I do agree EVs have a long way to go and are probably not the answer to future motoring however ther are too sides to this story
Spot on, my car has a range of 270, though i rarely charge it beyond 80% given my daily commute is 100 miles (there and back). It’s is uncannily accurate in regard to the expected % of battery left once I get home (within 1/2% virtually always) and is quite capable of doing 250 miles in the real world (it won’t do 270, but I’ll give them the 20 miles).
Are they right for everyone? Absolutely not, but the garbage comments you read are just regurgitated crap, most have never owned one, and have no idea what they’re capable of. Mine recently had to go in for a repair (faulty light connector) and I hated the ICE equivalent replacement

Well my Scottish friend I have seen this story somewhere else before and I had to have a smirk when I first heard it. Now I live in Australia (originally born and bred in Sussex) and frankly this story is so true to what is going to happen out here as the distances as you may appreciate are much greater than in the UK if especially you live in a rural like I do in NSW. For example my regular shopping trip is an 80kms plus (50 miles) and that is often twice a week. Now if I want to travel to say Sydney my trip would be a round trip (plus any distance travelled while there) of 800kms (500 miles)!! That would cause me so much anxiety about the range and given the lack of charging infrastructure out here simply could make one completely certifiable. If it is of any interest or comfort to the old country our current government out here is hell bent on net zero and this EV insanity and frankly the whole issue is a hideous nonsense.

Nothings going to change with manufacturers claims about range/mpg…. How can you drive around a test track at a constant 56mph and come out with some super duper figures that is not reality . I run a van and have yet to see a review of a electric van with it fully loaded , like in the real world ,
We have electric vans a work they have to charge to 100% just to get the 100 miles in the summer and that an empty van. I did 74 miles in my car and still had 229 left. Electric vans just don't work.

How can anyone in this day and age, be unaware of the pitfalls regarding EV's.? The frightening thing, is that these idiots are actually allowed to vote!
I won't be buying an EV until it's absolutely not possible to purchase anything else. Dreadful range, horrific depreciation and lack of infrastructure for charging. I can't even get my head around the eco aspect of an EV when they are manufactured using cadmium and nickel.

I have been around a long time, 7 decades long in fact. On a technical note, all these battery cars seem to have the "touch screen" in the middle of the car, you know where the radio/8track used to sit in cars made back in civilised times. At about the time I am recalling, some folks bought new fangled miniature tv's to sit on their dashboards. The result was a lack of due diligence road safety wise. TV's were banned in the front of cars! So can someone explain to me, if, as shown, taking your eyes off the road to watch Benny Hill chase some scantily clad lasses around a field is a bad idea, how come on these monstrosities you have to spend so much time looking at a tv screen in order to select all the functions that were on handily placed switches, accessible without taking your eyes off the road

And yeah I’ve got one, I use it every time I get in the car and it works to perfection, never had an issue with it, to the point I rarely if ever have to use the touch screen.

My neighbour sold his months old new EV for a hybrid as he could not be with it any longer. He lost 60% of its value but was so glad to get rid of it.
We have an EV and it states 204 miles per charge but does 170 around town in reality - its fine for us, people need to realise its about driving style, no different to petrol or diesel, drive sensibly get good MPG, push the loud pedal get far less.
People like Geoff buys cars and EV car-nage are just adding to the clamour that EV are useless and in decline, they just need to stop.
Oh and im no eco warrior, I am a petrol head with my current car is an M4, its just horses for courses.
Almost went for an EV earlier this year but backed out last minute and got an efficient petrol car instead. I'm on a 3 year lease deal, so resale is not an issue. When my current lease is up then I am hoping - in 3 years - a lot of this nonsense and contention about EVs will be resolved. My friend just grabbed an Hyundai Kona EV and for his amount of driving around town, it's working out perfect. He has off road parking and a charger so it's great for him while I'm in a flat on the 3rd floor so no charging possible. However, as more fast chargers come along then maybe I can live without one? Whatever happens, this war between EV fans and petrolheads needs to end somehow. The truth and facts are impossible to find when so much disinformation being chucked around by both sides. Some of us just want a car that goes from A to B and has aircon lol :)

Wait until a long vold period comes; see what the range is then. But why buy? Expensive, heinous depreciation, heavy insurance costs, range anxiety, did I mention range anxiety ( how does one seriously plan a long trip?), charging issues etc, etc….just why?
Its amazing. I do the calculation with a normal drive for me (about 280 miles one way) with no super chargers available en route and inevitably the comment is "most people only drive 30 miles a day!" Great. For everyone else who actually needs the transport the EV just won't cut the mustered. It gets worse considering charging limitations. Most homes cannot support charging an EV or would require extensive upgrades to do so. This push to turn everything into an EV is just madness.

I used to drive for a living, im now office based and I now despise it when ive got to cover a route if a drivers off sick.
I filled up with diesel, the gauge said "900 Klm unitl enpty"
100 Meters down the road it went to "700 Klm until empty"

You're right. Some people are so gullible that they believe all the nonsense they hear on the Fully Charged Show, and then insult anyone for stating verifiable facts they can't be bothered to check for themselves. Example, the claims that a Tesla Model 3 has a 300 mile range on a full charge. In reality, it's 170 miles. Quentin Wilson also claims that his Model 3 has done over 40,000 on it's original tyres. In reality, he will be on his fourth set, and about to need a fifth.
Quite agree.. Read the booklet 50 myths on ev. I've been driving them for 8 years now, never conked out, no troubles at all, cheap as chips to run plus they don't poison people and the planet. Oh and they go like stink.. petrol and diesel, so last year 😅

It's the driver. I have a 2 year old Renault with an advertised range of 238 miles. This time of year I beat that every time.
Don't charge over 80% or under 20% means you only use 60% to start with.
Interesting. I bought a Kia eNiro 3 years ago. Kia claim a range of 455km. I regularly exceed this and have had no problems. No way would I go back to an ICE car- each to their own I suppose.
What people need to realise is, the tech that's in these EV cars, the companies have had it for at least 50 yrs. I'm sure they have far more advanced tech that could easy be made available so everyone could drive an ev with the same standards or better than you get with a petrol or diesel. However, due to greed and control, this won't happen.
What tech do you think they have. The batteries are best available with current technology.
The thing that amuses me about electric cars is that we are told that they work best between 20 and 80 percent so that’s 20 per cent off your expected range before you set off
If you charge to 80 and drive down to 20 that’s 40 percent off.
They work best because to charge to 100% takes significantly longer
And don't forget that you weren't supposed to charge them up above 80% and drain them below 30% to protect your battery. This leaves you with 50% use of battery, therefore 50% of the claimed range...

On the flipside of the depreciation there are some genuine bargains to be had at the moment, if you can live with the range and charging hassle.
£70,000 new ,3 year old Jaguar F Pace EV, now £26,000. Ex lease. Who can heard that sort of depreciation? Not many private buyers.

I have had my I Pace for four years, it is exactly what I hoped it would be and more. You should not be surprised about range, the first thing you do with all vehicles is knock one third off the quoted range regardless of deisel, petrol or electric, then you can enjoy the hassle free motoring and not have range anxiety. £270 service at 21k miles £270 sevice at 42k miles, 230 miles actual range driving pedal to the metal, whats not to like? Of course you need a combustion engine car as well for the long distances but for me this car is brilliant for every day use.
I am on my 2nd Electric car although I have never had a problem for the 3/4 years, I am handing the car back in a few wks, and going back to petrol after seeing Mr Butler's video, I would never of put my self or family in a proven dangerous car, it certainly needs to be better Publicity on the pit falls of the Electric type vehicle's. My BMW i4 was stated as having a range of 326 miles. I can get around 300 miles if I drive carefully. I think that's pretty good to be fair. I get around 270 in winter. I can average 3.8 miles/kWh on a road trip, which equates to 307 miles on a full charge of the 81 kWh battery.
I don’t know what the problem is. I live in Berkshire and drive to places like Manchester and Devon without charging. My ev is an MG4 and I can depend on getting 230 miles in summer and 200 in winter. The electricity costs are low and the annual maintenance is£108. The car takes me where I want with modest speed and in a serene environment. It’s nice to drive too.
My father n law is a private taxi driver with a Tesla model s, it is 7 years old with 212 k on it(know of some with 450k + miles) its battery degradation from new is only 11% , he has used supercharging for a chunk of the recharges (which are free to him) and he uses it everyday. Lots of myths about EV’s .
Imagine buying a car based on 30mpg and turns out to be less than 20. The companies would be open to litigation. EV manufacturers are getting away with it.
My BMW iX3 is coming up 3 years old and 60 thousand miles, has been fault and hassle free and gets close to the quoted range.... all it has needed is 1 service and two rear tyres... I guess I am unique in my experience 😂

My Kona 64kwh is the same. It will get more than its 300 miles range in perfect conditions. 4 miles per kWh mid winter, more than 5 mid summer. Some cars are just better.

@@chrishart8548 we did a trip to the beach last week, only 90 miles but came back at 5.7m/kWh. The numpties complain about winter efficiency and range but don't see the summer, or even the average.
@@vernhill-wv7pp nope, pretty typical - I've got an Enyaq IV80 and that regularly does 300 miles. 250-280 in the winter with the climate set to 19c with the seats on. It was cheap to buy at one year old, the same as the same age A class merc with one of the shitter engines. It charges quick and is supremely quiet, comfortable and refined. Currently averaging 3.1p a mile including public charging on some long trips.
Ice cars have been quoted with exaggerated claims og mpg for decades. No class action there.
I have just bought a 2.0 tdt Passat with 46k on the clock and drove it down to Cornwall from Glasgow. 10 hours without out refueling and a 30 minutes stop. 250 miles range still left in the tank. Beat that ev lolvers.

I had to make the choice in late May full EV or other, I live fairly rural West Highlands , every week for the last 4 weeks we’ve had road long closures due to accidents with some diversions being in excess of 100 miles, with an elderly mother on the east coast decided EVs not for me, well the ones I could afford were not for me.
100mile diversion that's insane. Good job it's not a 20mph limit that would take over 5 hours. If I had a 100 mile didiversion I would probably book a hotel

If you live in London or any other big city, have a space to charge the vehicle and use the car for short commuting or shopping, then EV's make sense. For the rest of the 99% of us they are as useful as a chocolate teapot.
A colleague from work got a Renault Zoe 6 months ago. He got rid of it fast. He told me the range was hopeless even for local driving. He's back in a practical petrol car now.
My neighbours have an electric Corsa as a second car, and love it. It gets used for all the local short trips, have solar panels, batteries and a good deal with their supplier to make it a no brainier to own. They have their diesel car for any long distance trips. This is what they should concentrate on for EV’s, where battery degradation won’t be an issue. EV’s are not a one size fits all solution. If they were pitched for the second car option, then you would have a lot more happy EV owners. They just haven’t really played to the EV’s strengths, just forcing them on everyone for every trip.
Funny because I was a bit nervous about going electric but a Jaguar iPace was a good price and that was over a year ago, and I wouldn’t go back to ICE cars. It handles MY day to day including commuting and I’ve done lots of long journeys and haven’t had a problem. The Jag claims around 290 miles per charge but I didn’t think for a minute it would get anywhere near that (like claimed mpg on normal cars). During winter it’s around 240 but in this really warm weather it’s up to 270. Each to their own but every little thing that ever gets reported about EVs is jumped on and over exaggerated.

My mate got a Kona on a three year lease..cost of car new £41,000 he had the car three years and did 19,000 miles, the charge went down to 185 miles, he returned the car and the garage has the car for sale on the forecourt for £12,000
I'm Keeping my 17 y/o V6 as long as I can. The range has not decreased over time.
On a Melbourne to Sydney run (900 km appx 9.5 hrs) I know that I'll get l 700+ km, no matter what the weather is doing, it takes 3 minutes to refuel no need to worry about where the next refuel stop is. With 4 up and a 100kg electric wheelchair in the back. Try that in an EV
I run both an EV and an oil burner. If I had to have only one, it would be the oil burner hands down.
E V stands for Educational Vehicle as one of these is a real education in trying to get around.

The regulators eg, Trading Standards, should be taking action over the vastly overstated ranges of EVs but, as they are such a sacred cow to dumb politians, I imagine they’ve been told by Govt to do nothing and let customers suffer…
My dealer tried to get me to go electric when I renewed my Motability contract I did manage to get a 1500 cc diesel out of them, once the sales man got to know me better even he slated the ev market saying much the same as you highlighted in this post the salesman had a petrol over electric company car and he would only run his company car on ....... PETROL, thank's for your video your highlighting the pitfalls of having a ev.
If you are stuck with an EV and have paid 50% of your vehicle loan. Check your finance agreement. There normally is a clause that allows you to terminate the agreement and return the car if you have paid the first 50%. This is called a voluntary termination. I have done this in the past, and it didn't affect my credit score.
I used to have a 62kwh Leaf, I bought it in 2021 and part exchanged it in 2023 for £12000, a loss of £8000.
I am back to a diesel BMW 640d convertible and am a lot happier!

The vast amount of E.V's that have been produced in this country and worldwide..the pollution created is going to really hurtful to the environment..the problem I find is the mpg that is claimed by the manufacturers is very LOW, I would have understood the rush to purchase a E.V if it claimed 900mpg on a full charge but 250 or so is not worth it...plus the infrastructure is not there at all no charging stations and costs always going up..
What I would have said to the Garage is right let's charge it up and go for a drive because you are calling me a liar.

I have an Outlander PHEV. It's a great compromise. No range anxiety. I originally bought it when hybrids were London Congestion Charge exempt and electricity was MUCH cheaper than it is now. In 2025, I'll have to start paying road fund licence on it.

All of these range estimates are nonsense. They don’t account for how vehicles are being used in the real world. When they create those range estimates they want to sell the car and tell you you’ve got as many miles per charge as possible. Not ‘please turn off the heaters and drive in eco-mode to get the max range of the vehicle when driven conservatively’ but realistically when you’ve got two kids and a boot full of shopping and you’ve got the heaters on as it’s a cold winter morning and then you look at your range estimate, no wonder it’s half. 😅 when they can do 1000 Miles per charge I’ll be happy, as I know I can sacrifice 100 miles of range a day to use the car as an actual car.
What was Mr Beswick thinking? He must be driving in winter which is not covered by the car's specs. He should know that an EV's range falls in cold weather.
I’ve got a Mini Cooper s 5 door. Spent the last four days driving around North Yorkshire for a birthday trip. Drove almost 420 miles on a full tank. Not bad for a 2 litre with a 9 gallon tank. When an electric car can do that for real around the same size vehicle I’ll consider it. Otherwise I’ll leave it thanks.

My friend has a Tesla Y and this does no-where near the range it should I am only 237 miles away and he can not do it in one go and when we went out on tour in Corwall range was well under 200 and that was in the summer with no lights or heating. There is also a massive fire loading in Lithium Ion batteries that we are seeing worldwide when fires occur you cannot put them out. the biggest type of growing fire risk.
My third ev arrives today. My previous ev Kia soul first edition 2020 sold last week battery still at 100% 250 miles in winter 300 + in summer plus the saving on fuel costs. No more ice cars for me

The quoted mileage on a full charge should be how far you can get carrying a family of 4 in the dead of winter with the heater on, lights on, wipers on and radio on. When I can get from Newcastle to London without stopping under those conditions then I'll consider one!
Hi, I don't recognise the issue you had on the video, before I start although I have an EV I did have some scepticism when I first had the car and still do in some ways. The Range was given as 300 miles however in reality it's about 250-270 miles depending on the type of road and, weather and how it's driven. I use the car for both Businesses and that's about 150 miles per day and for Domestic use. again on the factors mentioned the EV does between 4.6 per KWh at the lowest to 5.2 Miles per kWh at the maximum, I do agree there has to be some planning on a longer journey in regards to range, if I need to charge then I usually have a break for lunch as it only takes 40minutes to charge from 40% to 95%. Then how about this, I took a holiday in Scotland from home to home the mileage was 1500 no issues charging or range or any long journey for Leisure or Business do I worry about Range or Charging. Since I had the EV the infrastructure has increased especially on Motorways and in most towns & cities dramatically over the last 18 months. I would like to point out also that my fuel bill for business has dropped dramatically even with charging on Motorways. they, do say charge when you can not when you have to. I do recognise EVs are not the complete answer to modern transport but as part of a mix. The battery after 14 months seems to have increased in its ability to charge and hold a charge. Experiences so far have not put me off from having another EV so I don't understand what Mr Beswick's issue is , all cars have their issues both Petrol, Diesel & LPG, and this is relatively new technology so they are bound to be for and against. And before the keyboard warriors start slagging me off I say again I am not totally convinced but in the long term only time will tell if this works or not. Lastly the car is a Nissan Aryia Thanks
