I use a little leather cream on them sometimes such as with Allen Edmonds, but I most often use the desired color of leather dye from Angelus every time I shine them. Don't wear leather outsoles in the rain or snow and you'll be fine.

Well, I've spent about that on shoes many times over...but they're still in my closet and some have seen their use. You get what you pay for whether it be tires for your car, a mattress to sleep on, or the shoes on your feet... it all starts from the ground up my man. Treat yo' self!
if someone was to ask me 3 years ago if i would ever pay more than 150$ for a pair of shoes i would say.. nope, not for me. (at that time could have been only for a dress shoes for super special ocasions). but then i bought pair of Church loafers at 70% discount (so cost was aprox 100$) and realized, my god, they are so much better, and my shoe collection started to grow (fortunately limited by small space of apartment). of course those costing 1000$ are problably not 2 times better then those costing 500$, but you generaly see where's money going.
