that first half was wild. he scored four, hit the post and had another denied for a pretty tight offside. in a parallel universe he scored six in about 25 minutes. i don't think i've ever seen anything like it.
Something worth mentioning is that all the assists stats would've been much much better if he had better players around him. Like ik he scored 4 in the last game but he could've easily had 2 assists if Jackson was slightly better at finishing. His assist stats have been significantly curbed by the players around him, which is evident from his passing stats.
England should build the team around this lad, and yeah Bellingham is something else, but Palmer is set to be one of the top 5/10 players in world football. Dump him in as a 10 and work from there in terms of who makes the team and how they play. How Foden kept him out of the England team in the Euros is a mystery, as is his failing to win the PFA last year.
Foden was exposed in the Euros. Turns out he's a decent system player, not someone who can drag your team to international trophies. Kane has a curse on him so Palmer and Bellingham are the future.

Hi Adam, 5:32 If the data is available, you should perhaps consider using psxg-xg rather than goals-xg. Reason I say this, goals-xg still has an additional remaining variable which is the goalkeeper. It stands to reason players which face quality keepers more frequently will see more saved and thus their goals-xg metric may be skewed lower. Post shot xg instead looks at the quality of the shot that left the players foot (considering here it was directed at the goal - unsure if it takes curve into account or only placement) and does a quick analysis of what percentage of that type of shot from that position result in a goal. I think palmer needs to start for England over Bellingham, I feel like Bellingham’s attitude often poor when things aren’t going his way and he goes missing for long periods in big games. Palmer is the exact opposite of this and would be a batter playmaker for England.

I feel like whilst he’s obviously a massive talent, are we not all falling victim to the usual English thing we do of putting huge pressure on these young players, comparing them to club legends like Hazard, saying they’re gonna be the best in the world etc?
English media and fans did the same with Dele Ali, the same with Mainoo when he went through that purple patch last season (Micah Richard’s saying he’s gonna be one of the best midfielders in the world), dare I say it the same with Foden and Bellingham who are now being overshadowed in the media as they aren’t quite at the levels they were last season. Feels like it’s the same old cycle we follow with young English talents, like just give it a year or two you know 😂 Have we not learned a thing?

@@MaticulousGamer Foden last season got pretty close? Hype for him has died down massively. I’ll eat my words if come end of this season Palmer is still at the levels he is now and has done it against the elite prem teams. I’m not saying he has to do it for 10 seasons haha, but 2-3 seasons I think is fair to make sure it wasn’t the usual English media getting away don’t you? Same with Yamal, same with Bellingham.

I don’t think anybody is denying that and you’re rushing to defend something when I’ve already acknowledged it. Which is cool, you’re likely a Chelsea fan and that’s what fans do.
But you seem to have missed and not answered to the point though of an historic tradition of English media and pundits hyping and putting huge pressure on young English talents to be the next next in the world etc. It’s an undeniable reputation they have and with some of the players they’ve done it with before, they end up succumbing to the pressure or just fading out within a couple of years. Let’s hope Palmer’s different and England find a manager who actually plays him regularly.
@@Spiritandvitalityplus50 yes, many a time english players are hyped... i never buy into it. the last one who was touted, who i considered, was Dele Alli (big mistake)... but Palmer is set apart from all of them in recent memory. I am a chelsea fan, and yet i'd be the first to pump the brakes on ANY of our players being hyped. got a lot going on, so i missed part of your message
