    The Honda GoldWing is a phenomenal bike, no doubt. I for one, totally get the fixed fairing thing. My first Harley was a 2001 RoadGlide and I "upgraded" to a 2015 Ultra Limited and I miss it. That being said, you absolutely do NOT have to explain or defend your decision to buy a Honda. Great bikes and you've basically got a 2-wheel Honda Accord and if you take care of it, it'll run in excess of 200k miles. Let the haters hate, get out and ride and enjoy your bike. It's all the same wind.

      If you ever get a chance try a 1400 Kawasaki Concours. I have been riding 50+ years, this one is bike 17 for me and I still have my Hayabusa which I love for what it is. My Concours is just flat smooth and powerful. It loves to turn with the Michelin GT 5 tires on it... just can't beat it. Also, Honda is a superb engineering and manufacturing company. NSR 750... who would have thought that motor would work? Nobody has equaled that level of successful engineering inside an engine.

    Everyone who likes the honda over the harley is just more tech savy and understand what it is all about, advanced and superior technique and way way more reliable. The honda can take you to the end of the world and it will take you back home when your done.
    Harley is a brand from yesteryear that is only bought for romantic reasons, let's say the women under the motor enthousiasts... The feeling the sound and the color is what matters to those, and it's fine when you drive 5000km per year, 'cause they are just for show.
    The Goldwing is for the people that actually want to ride...

Poorly made, never updated, always issues, towing guys love the business from HD riders and so on. Yes, they do have good looking riding gear, nice chrome all over, pretty dealerships with nice wallpaper and music running on Saturday morning and sometimes buffet. It still does not help me spend so much money on one. Just does not justify !!!! That is why I took the 2020 GW DCT Tour and no freaking regrets at all. My bank account shrank for a good cause. happy Honda days.

    I ride to all my photo shoots from Jersey to Manhattan mostly. I need reliability and comfort. I had Indian, Triumph, BMW and now Honda GL1500SE. So far, the Honda is the most comfortable and maintenance free. I get the most bang for the buck with the Goldwing. I may get a Road Glide someday. But I like the comfort and quiet rumble of the Honda. It's now noisy but you know its there. Great wind and rain protection. I get compliments from everyone except the Harley riders. lol

    I have a 2016 Harley limited. I had come into some extra money and was going to upgrade to a 2018 Harley Limited. BUT then I heard about the new goldwing. Instead of buying the Harley I decided to get the 2018 goldwing instead. I still have my Harley and now I have my goldiwing. I can honestly say that I love my goldwing more than I do the Harley when it comes to strictly performance. The goldwing is in my mind is without question the better all around performance bike I feel when riding. But I still love the classic Harley rumble of the exhaust and I love the classic styling of the Harley. I feel that each of these bikes has positives and negatives. But each bike also has its positives as well.I will say that so far since I got the golwing I have put about 2900 miles on it and only 700 for my Harley.that says enough Congrats on ur bike and remember that there are aftermarket accessories coming out slowly but surely for the new goldwing every day. I have a few and have been stopped by several 2018 goldwing riders to ask where I got a particular part. Like another commenter said the wind doesn't care.

  • @georgecostanza2695
    @georgecostanza2695 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think you'll come to learn, just as I did, that there seems to be an even larger and more fanatical following of the Gold Wing than there is for the full dress HD Ultra model tourers. As it was also a concern of mine, I also found out that there are actually significantly more Honda Powersports dealers (approx 1300) across the country than there are HD dealers (approx 700). Not surprising since Honda actually sells about twice as many bikes here as Harley. I had an HD Ultra Limited which I adored and when it was time to get a new bike, I was just going to get a newer version of the same thing. However, therein lies the problem... it was just a newer version of THE SAME THING! Honda offered stuff that can't be had on the Harley no matter how much you spend: active suspension, power wind screen, remote locks, traction control, drive modes, reverse gear, 7 speed DCT, that super smooth 6 cylinder mill, and above all else... airbag.

    • @craighanesworth262
      @craighanesworth262  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes I wonder if Harley feels like they don't have to make significant changes to their bikes as they continue to have a loyal following no matter what. Do they subscribe to the notion of "If it ain't broke don't fix it?" Hmmmm

    • @georgecostanza2695
      @georgecostanza2695 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@craighanesworth262 it's kind of understandable from HD's point of view. Their big touring bikes fetch the largest margins, along with having the lowest development costs, and have a loyal following... you gotta be really certain to have something better before messing with that formula. Honda however, benefits more from being on the cutting edge. As a company with such deep roots in motorsports, from F1 to GT cars and dirt bikes to MotoGP, they have a corporate culture that's inherently more involved in pushing the performance envelope on all fronts. It costs hundreds of millions of dollars to completely engineer a new bike, design a new engine, write software to run it, test it, get it certified internationally, and then tool up to build it. Goldwing has gone through three such ground up evolutions since the original was launched in the early 70's. On the other hand, a casual observer would be hard pressed to pick out the differences between an FL from 40 years ago and a modern day Electra Glide. Don't expect any ground breaking leaps forward anytime soon either. A recent Bloomberg article basically said that Harley's going to be borrowing money and cutting development costs, so they could continue doing what they're doing, the way they've always done it.

Sometimes it's easy to become fixated with one brand...just look at how many people own a Rolex, yet there are better watches out there. Like you I have an interest in all bikes, and have ridden/owned many machines. Sure, there have been bikes amongst them that I miss, (Kawasaki Z1300) and some I don't, (Yamaha XVS650 Dragstar) some I regret ever buying, and those I would ride again in a heartbeat. Ironically I have just parted with a GL1800 (2004 year but less than 10k on the clock) and replaced it with an NC750X DCT. Superb bike, with incredible fuel economy of 90+ to the gallon. Now looking to add a Hayabusa (it will be my fifth one) to the garage as I just love the shape of them, and the incredible torque. Enjoyed the video, good luck, and keep posting. Had a Road King since 2011, no change of consequence (motors aside) since 2009, just couldn’t bring myself to pay so much money for the same thing again. I looked at Indian and Honda, both are excellent but so pricey in Australia, not to mention how much more expensive the Harley had gotten too, so I rode the BMW RT and fell in love, much cheaper and better than the others (except maybe the Honda) and so smooth too. Then I rode the GSA and it was such a good thing and an even lower price, that I bought one.
    Not as much weather protection as the RT but that suspension travel and all round usability sold me on it straightaway. 2021 and just some shiny new colours for the Harley. At this point the joke is on anyone who buys a touring chassis Harley, the other bikes are streets ahead but if people keep falling for new colours and more chrome, Harley will keep selling you yesterday’s tech at tomorrow’s prices. It’s a bad business strategy in the long term but they’ve wasted so much money on bikes nobody wanted, that they’re happy to sell you a polished turd until you all wake up.

I like The Harley-Davidson for all the reasons you expressed way easier to get aftermarket parts. On a trip Dealer network is so much more than with my Hondas. I really hate going to HD Dealer because you always have to fight for discount and markdowns. Its such a hassle to have this feeling that if you do not ask they gonna put lots of unnecessary charges that will inflate to price way above MSRP. Im not sure if the same is true on a Honda Dealer. I hope not!

    Wife and I sat on one last year when it first came out, They don't let people ride them. It's really a nice bike and we might have been more interested if we got to ride it... side note. Wife and I walked in to a Harley Davidson dealership in 2011 just to look at the bikes. No interest in ever really owning a Harley Davidson, really happy with the Suzuki we had... they offered to let us ride a new ultra limited. We both couldn't believe how nice the Harley Davidson was... needless to say they are the most comfortable bike for the job in my humble opinion. We bought that bike road it all over the place and never had a problem one. We now have a cvo Harley Davidson for the two up riding. Wife has a slim s for her self and I bought a cb1100s new to ride with her... long story short, get what you like... P.S. they still have that 2018 Honda gold wing sitting in the same spot as of last week...

      Congrats on the CVO!!! That is a great bike. I agree with you in that I think Honda dropped the ball on not allowing people to test ride the Goldwing. I also think that Harley does a better job of having demo days so you can try out different bikes.

    Get the bike you want, be happy with what you ride. Excellent advice. I've owned both Honda's and Harley's, the only bikes I've ever owned. IME, all bikes have plus and minuses regardless of brand. For me, the GW is not the bike. It is based on a sport bike platform with a sport bike rider position designed for two up with a trunk. I've also owned the previous version and found the wider older bike to be even more of a discomfort. The wind protection on the new GW is far less than the previous model and way less than my Harley. Then there is the lack of storage on the GW, especially the new 18-19 models. The Honda engineering is high quality but the fit and finish is not on par with the Harley and is very cheap for a $25K moto. All in all, I prefer my Harley any day over the Honda.
