Unfortunately, mice can chew through plastic. Canned goods like soup, chili, beans, etc... are safe to be stored in plastic totes since the mice can't chew through metal. It would be ideal to store dry goods inside a metal box or compartment.
Ask someone you know that has a cat(s) for something that their cat(s)has laid on and place it in your van ...no rodent problem lol it works I promise you. Or just them in your van and run around for a hour or 2 while you visit.

So I immediately came to check out your content after watching Mateo's newest video and I'm so glad that I did. The moment I saw you I could tell immediately that you both look so much alike lol I'm so happy that you are following in his footsteps after he gifted you the Astro van. I'm sure that although you are enjoying yourself, you are quickly realizing that little problems like that water leak are going to pop up here and there. But it really is worth it IMO. I'm a simple 59 year old mom and Grammy who is living vicariously through you and your brother, lol I would definitely sell my home and get a van or small camper but I'm having some health issues so I need to be near my Doctors. I do little getaways with my almost 6 yr old granddaughter, Casey. We are making memories that she will have long after I'm gone and that's absolutely priceless, right? Too bad water got in and you lost a few things. Yes someone mentions mason jars, but I like plastic less chance of broken glass. But it was great that you were able to make the trip. Every trip you will discover what works best.

I have always loved to swing and I’m 70 now I need to do it again. It will get better I use a lot of totes since it makes it much easier to keep things out and dry.

Until you can get your back weatherstripping done you could get the Matt’s that come up on the sides to just capture the water in that until you get a permanent fix. Maybe even plastic wrap down until you fix it. Also in non raining days keep back door open n all windows to thoroughly get back floor dry. I thought I did see a little worping by the post that holds your bed and floor. Water may have gotten down there so keep an eye on that me lovely

Im not quite sure, I found another van lifer (ethnic Explorer), with the exact same van with the same issue, and he used some glue to seal the top back light where the water comes in at. Congrats! You did it! I have 5 weeks left on my lease and I'll be in my van full time but locally for the first year. About your leak...if you don't follow the ethnic explorer, he has an astro with the same issues and has videos of how to fix it. I believe he just had to replace the seals on his back doors. Love love love thrifted camping gear!!! And the kettle is so cute (even though I am not a pink kinda girl). And I love that as a Mom, you are taking time for yourself. Too often, we as moms, especially those of us with young kids, are too busy filling everyone else’s cups while ours run dry. You can’t be your very best if you don’t take care of yourself too. That’s so important.
Until you get that leak fixed, you can camp with a tarp and strong magnets holding it in place. Obviously you can’t drive with the tarp in place, but you will be protected at the camp ground.
I want to do this. I will someday. I have a Chrysler 300. I may have to start with that, and eventually, move up to a van. I feel your sense of accomplishment. I felt that when I moved from Ky.. to Alabama. I am happy for you. I will have my first day, and I'll let you know how it went. Stay safe and GOD Bless.
Save your plastic shaker jugs you empty to dump your seasonings in it that come in cardboard containers, also go get some silicone and seal where it was leaking. That will work til you get somewhere you can get it fixed.
Living in the south, snakes are a worry for sure! I live in Michigan, and we usually don't have to worry about that. We do have one venemous snake here that is even in the local parks of southeast MI. Rarely do we see them. It is so brave of you for doing this for self healing and discovery!

I watch I lil bit into the video how bout a tarp to cover the entire top of your vehicle til you can find some vinyl to replace your back door seal..... tarps at Walmart as well....
I love your energy I know you’ve likely heard that you and your brother share that. I’d be careful consuming things that got wet. Keep in mind the water didn’t come straight from the sky, it passed through the rubber and semi rusted parts in the van, then the floor before coming in contact with the food. Seal it with The Flex clue that they sell at the hardware store..its call Flex Seal comes in tubes..it's the best..always keep a tube in your van...also...you can get a mosq net and place it over the doors so you can go in and out without having them or bugs in your van...just use magnets or clips...but it's a must have.....you can get yards of it at Walmart or fabric stores..stay safe out there..watch your surroundings 😊😊😊

Hi, I agree with the plastic bins for sure, you also need a plastic contaner for your oats. Any thing in cardboard or paper should be pored in a plastic container. Hit the Dollar store.

Wishing you all the best ❤ … food storage containers like plastic ones with lids would be great for storing and transporting your food and goods 😊 … I found some nice size ones at Target that are tall too so my tall bottles like olive oil can fit standing up those one holds all my dry bulk goods and pasta sauces and I have a medium size one with all my spices cooking utensils in. And I have a flat kind of long (2 1/2 - 3 feet) one with my clothes and other sustainable items in. You’re still adjusting, you will perfect as you go. ✌🏽❤️

Until you can get your back weatherstripping done you could get the Matt’s that come up on the sides to just capture the water in that until you get a permanent fix. Maybe even plastic wrap down until you fix it. Also in non raining days keep back door open n all windows to thoroughly get back floor dry. I thought I did see a little worping by the post that holds your bed and floor. Water may have gotten down there so keep an eye on that me lovely

And my brother allowing me to use the van was a God send!! Im not quite sure, I found another van lifer (ethnic Explorer), with the exact same van with the same issue, and he used some glue to seal the top back light where the water comes in at. About your leak...if you don't follow the ethnic explorer, he has an astro with the same issues and has videos of how to fix it. I believe he just had to replace the seals on his back doors. Until you get that leak fixed, you can camp with a tarp and strong magnets holding it in place. Obviously you can’t drive with the tarp in place, but you will be protected at the camp ground.

Save your plastic shaker jugs you empty to dump your seasonings in it that come in cardboard containers, also go get some silicone and seal where it was leaking. That will work til you get somewhere you can get it fixed.

Living in the south, snakes are a worry for sure! I live in Michigan, and we usually don't have to worry about that. We do have one venemous snake here that is even in the local parks of southeast MI. Rarely do we see them. It is so brave of you for doing this for self healing and discovery!

I love your energy I know you’ve likely heard that you and your brother share that. I’d be careful consuming things that got wet. Keep in mind the water didn’t come straight from the sky, it passed through the rubber and semi rusted parts in the van, then the floor before coming in contact with the food. Seal it with The Flex clue that they sell at the hardware store..its call Flex Seal comes in tubes..it's the best..always keep a tube in your van...also...you can get a mosq net and place it over the doors so you can go in and out without having them or bugs in your van...just use magnets or clips...but it's a must have.....you can get yards of it at Walmart or fabric stores..stay safe out there..watch your surroundings 😊😊😊

Wishing you all the best ❤ … food storage containers like plastic ones with lids would be great for storing and transporting your food and goods 😊 … I found some nice size ones at Target that are tall too so my tall bottles like olive oil can fit standing up those one holds all my dry bulk goods and pasta sauces and I have a medium size one with all my spices cooking utensils in. And I have a flat kind of long (2 1/2 - 3 feet) one with my clothes and other sustainable items in. You’re still adjusting, you will perfect as you go. ✌🏽❤️
