- It was at the Battle of the Nations 2019 that the first mass battle of 150 vs 150 took place in history on the territory of the Smederevo Fortress in Serbia. All banners (30 fighters union) for the HMB World Championship Battle of the Nation 2019 were formed in advance. Almost 40 countries gathered in 11 banners by geographical location and friendly relationships.

and they had sharp weapons, not blunt weapons like these
And most of them couldn't afford plate armor meaning getting killed would be a lot easier
@@hagurm3713 sharp weapons dont do much against an armored opponent. Clubs and piercing weapons were the biggest threat, thankfully they seem to be banned here.

@@stormbringer2840 well, as much as Germany is a modern invention, France is a modern invention, too. If you look at it, there is no real France at that point, it was more of an "I follow this person, because he has the most power". It is the myth of Nationalism, which would tell us: 'France is awesome, it already exists for some 1200 years'.
And if you want to go that way, as much as there was a "Francia", there was a "Germania", but those tended to be regions describing the people living there, i.e. there is still a "Francia" today in Germany.

No You can't say that France is a modern invention by any stretch of the word "modern" . The latest that you would go to describe the birth of France would be 11th century ( which is still nearly a millennia away from our times ) when the kings started to call themselves king of France rather than king of the Franks .
And yes before that Francia was used to described the territory of peoples who called themselves Franks . And Charlemagne ( carols magnus ...Etc ) called Himself a Frank too , therefor he is part of the people that were in direct continuation with ...France .
It is False to say that Germania existed before that because the term actually designed something different than the modern sense of Germania ( contrary to France that is to this day the Land of the Franks ) it is a label assigned by the romans to any people that is beyond the rhine and the danube . In that sense the Word Germania is closer to the Word gallia who design a region were the peoples in those region don't view themselves as such . The Gauls didn't view themselves as gauls ( they viewed themselves as Biturige, bellovac , arvernian , eduinians ...etc ), the same way the Germanic tribes then kingdoms didn't view themselves as Germans ( they viewed themselves as saxons , bavarians ...etc) but the Franks DID view themselves as Franks ( and later French ) , which is why they had a Rex Francorum , where all land east of them had an Holy roman Emperor which is nominally a league of different nations with different leaders .
And yes there is a tiny region of actual germany that is called after the Franks but that just means the germans where there at some point . If we go that way then England is really just an other German state , and the same way Russia is an Ukrainian state .

you get a suit of armor, train in it, and hope that you have enough people with the same line of thought in the area to make a team (the hard bit)

This is very cool, and I understand the need for maximal protection, but damn, the helmets are not very historically accurate. Some are good, but most do not look great. In any case, this is awesome, and I hope to participate or see it in person one day!

I’m no historian but weren’t all big clashes like this. Just a big mess of two sides pushing and hacking what’s in front of them waiting to see which side routes first
@@casshernsins8333 No not really. Training, tactics, and tight control of formation were critical and important to staying alive. Battle is and has always been a team effort. You counted on the man beside you standing firm and protecting your flank with his own shield and weapons, just as he was relying on you to protect his. Just like the men behind you were relying on you to protect them as they squeezed their spear points or polearms around you to hit the people in front of you.
When that cohesion breaks down into every man for themselves whacking at another, and you don't know from which angle you might be hit or if you'll be supported at all, it gets real bad real fast, and becomes very easy to route, especially if yours is the disorganized side, and the opponent is maintaining a firm, constantly advancing line of shields, spearpoints, and axe/hammer heads.
Weapons need to be bigger and heavier to deliver a blow. Seems like the weapons get on the way instead of helping.

No. You would actually get killed, or severely injured. And also, you wouldn't even be allowed to fight, so no.

@@rickkybobby8118 Wrong. The germans had the union of principalities, which are mostly the german "Bundesstaaten" today. They were combined in the Holy Roman Empire (of the German Nation), which included parts of the surrounding modern nations and northern Italy. Since the absolute majority of principalities were german and in the modern german borders, you can say it was an early Germany (since the German Empire originated from said union). The Russian part is even easier. In the middle ages, the Grand Duchy of Moscow ruled the west of the modern Russia. And from there the Tsarism originated, which began to claim the rest of the modern Russia and other Lands.
You see, both Nations existed in ways (like every other country to that time), while America wasn't even discovered yet and therefore has nothing to do with this time period.
