Not Georiga.... what happens when you make a typo and dont catch it? Too late now.
After a long day of trail rides starting in North East Georgia we ended up on Helen for the night. Our plan was Hiawassee, but some how I missed the turn. No steakhouse for dinner that night. Pizza it is, one of the few food places open past 8 here. The Ac unit would turn off and on throughout the night with a howling at the moon sound. Whaaoooooo.....ppp. I thought it was just rowdy neighbors.
Wake up in the morning to a Mountain sunrise and start to pack up the Jeep. Do you have a early Jk? The ones that lock when up accidentally push the round button? With a soft top that’s no problem. With the hard top, it was locked up good. The extra key was in the lock box... Randy said, that’s not a good place to keep it.
Off we go out to start off with Tray mountain road to some scenic overlooks. It is a shame to see the vandalism even up here. Hatchet creek had two water crossings before coming to Helton Creek falls. Paved or gravel the Traverse has beautiful views. The turn to Wolf Creek has an a sharp 180 and can be missed. There is a place that sells boiled peanuts and has a bathroom. Fresh and hot a nice big bag will last the next two days. Wolf creek rd has a small stream that runs along side and had some areas to stop and eat.
In Coopers Creek we took the north loop on Duncan Ridge Rd. Easy travels and made our way to FS 640 where a dead deer lay just off the trail. Now a long haul westward till we eventually got to Hwy 76.
Down to Ellijay for the night. Pay a little extra and stay at a name brand hotel. You will have a better sleep and get the rest you need for the next days ride.
Day three will bring us off the trail to a hidden gem of north Georgia. But that is another video....

I just gotta chuckle about the 3,700 ft altitude and the "dropoffs". I just got back home to Florida from Colorado driving Black Bear pass, Imogene pass, Engineer pass and 10 others. They range over 12,000 ft in elevation and have 1000 ft shear dropoffs.
I love Helen Georgia. My uncle built Charlemagnes kingdom there and I've done all the surrounding trails. Fun stuff. I'm just not as good a filmmaker as you folks. So thanks for the memories!
Ahhh Black Bear Pass.... I have some friends that are heading to Telluride this week. I would like to ride that some day, Randy said No - NO WAY. I look forward to returning to the area for some more rides.

We often ride with the Orlando Jeep Club and have some stuff in the works. Heading out to central Richloam tomorrow to visit the General Store.
Don't eat those boiled peanuts after they get cold. Freeze them or throw them out after they get cold. Very good chance you'll get food poisoning from them otherwise. I live near there, and as much as I love those peanuts, I've learned the hard way.
Thanks for the tip! We tend to eat them all. I sure don't want to get sick like that on a trail.

The Days in in Clayton was nice and clean. The staff was friendly. It makes a good home base for a couple of days worth of riding. We might take another trip in October.
Do you guys air down at all on these trails?
Yes when its going to be bumpy. But I don't think we did much airing down because most of the service roads are well maintained.
I was just in Helen about 3 weeks ago. I should’ve done the Georgia Traverse too. We went to Highland NC and thru Ellijay Georgia. Recently picked up an LJ and can’t wait to join the Jeep Clubs. Loved the two videos!

@@FloridaJeepRides our first goldwing was a root beer colored 81’. Someone had a silver wing for sale around DeLand last year a buddy a I went to look at. It was pretty cool!

Great Video. We tried to do the traverse over spring break but we had a ton of rain. Did get to go over Tray Mt. and did Helton Creek falls. Found a ton of snakes. Heading back up there October 1st on our way to do badge of honor trails through PA.
Yes we did and took a third day to do more of the west end. One more video to edit. I turned several logs and only found small toads. On the 3rd day a nice Box turtle crossed our path. October should bring some nice colors on that trip.
Will be up there Oct 1st as well.

Part 2 - great stuff, again, great job bringing us along for the ride! Heights - yeah, I'm with you. I don't know when it happened to me, but in recent years I've started getting really uneasy when close to an edge like some of these trails are (and it makes me crazy nervous when my kids get near any edge of a major drop-off). How much of the trails would you say are close to the edge like that?
Again, thanks for noting the roads you're following along the way, and thanks for the tips (just started off-roading, and I recently added an axe and a pruning saw to my off-road gear - had to turn around one night on some back road trails b/c of a fallen tree). Thanks!
If its summer you don't notice it as much... in fall or winter you will see it most of the way. The comfort is with all the trees on the side you wont go too far down the side. The only time that it could be an issue is if you are trying to pass or get around each other.
Great video part 1 & 2. Where was the iron bridge crossing and the sandal tree located.

awesome video as usual! if you had to pick your favorite small section of the traverse, which wold be your pick? i am going up there with family in late december to stay near helen area and wanted to do just a small portion on one of the days i am staying in helen.
That would be the river Tallulah crossing and Charlies Creek Trail. The trail has a bit more stuff but still not big challenge.

I have questions...
1- I have a very stock 04 WJ, street tires. Can I do the traverse?
2- How did you find out what roads were closed and alternate routes?
3- Did y’all camp or just stay in hotels? Where?
1-Yes most of it was very easy.
2- We use Gaia GPS and the maps from Georgia Traverse as well.
3- we stayed in hotels. when we know it was getting late Randi would check on line and book a couple of rooms. average was around $80 each night per room.
But there are ample camping areas along the way.

@@FloridaJeepRides I’m just learning Gaia. Thanks for the answers. I’m in north Georgia. You’re right some beautiful areas are going away fast. Where do you think the best trout fishing is available on this trip?
The rivers are abundant, bot the Tallulah Gorge State Park offers up a great crossing and plenty of areas to fish.
I just recent have been trail riding in citrus wma and richloam. Wonder if you could me find more places to go or help me with maps of places. Thank you. I watch you videos a lot now and you have inspired my trail riding adventures. Would like to go trail riding sometime with you guys.
We also ride in Ocala and some WMAs in the area. When things get back to normal there will be some Orlando Jeep Club rides. Also check out Florida Trail Stompers.
FloridaJeepRides we went to Ocala today and rode around a bit went by the US Navy bombing area and tried to find blue sink but it’s closed.
