    Hanging a cantilever gate my look impressive--but I promise it's not that hard. Today I'll show you just how easy it is to hang a smooth-rolling, long-lasting cantilever gate.

    Welcome to Florida. I've seen all your vids from Wyoming, you guys do amazing work with amazing tools. I think you'll find our weather and our digging much better than you found back home. Best I can tell you guys had to constantly dig through rocks instead of dirt. Looking forward to the competition y'all bring to Florida, and I hope competing with y'all gets my company to a higher level. Hope we all have dang good days!

    Just did my first cantilever! At tinker afb, two 40 foot gates. We used x’d truss rods in 6ft sections for our bracing.
    And steel rollers in c channel at the top rail

    That is a really nice city-fied entrance gate. Thanks for showing how you and your minion installed it.
    I’ve watched a bunch of SWI gate videos and have begun to wonder. What do you guys have against Bob-War gates?
    In my opinion there is nothing prettier than a nice five strand… hedge post anchored… hand whittled white oak stake ended… Bob-War gate.
    The number of variations in closure attachment are endless… a chain and stick tensioner… a wire loop bail on the top and bottom… or for those who want the ambiance.. there’s always the classic bailing wire double twist hand tie, to consider.
    A thing of beauty? You bet. And bonus… there’s no plastic to accidentally hammer on!!!
    I hope you don’t take offense… but some gates are just purdier than others! And beauty in the eye of this beholder would rather be holding a nice Bob-War gate!
    PS… I want to beautify my pasture entrance. Do you have any links to videos that show how to build a good danged 5 strand Bob-War gate?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't have anything against a nice bob-war! 🤣 It's just all about what the customer wants--you know?

      @@SWiFence yep…. I watched that one. And, I must admit… it was a purdy gate. But, it still doesn’t have that homegrown organic… built from brush along the fence line, using old Bob-War, salvaged from the fence washed out in the crick bottom… feel.
      My trailer chains are worn out from dragging on the road. So, I might try one of those locking latches. Then I can use the chain that I lock the gate with, on that. Appreciate ya reminding me of that!!
      Thanks for the link… and it also reminded me.. you said you didn’t like hedge posts in the comments. Have you warmed up to them any since?

    Great info! How deep and wide does the foundation have to be for this system?

    • @mikethallheimer7163
      @mikethallheimer7163 ปีที่แล้ว

      A general rule is 40% of the gate opening. As far as depth it really depends on ground conditions. I always say go big or go home. If you were to do a 30 ft opening I would say 36 in wide by 5 ft deep for each post should do it. Concrete is something like 4050 lbs per sq yard, and in a cantilever gate they’act as a counter weight to some extent.

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว

      12" x 36" minimum. Softer grounds will require larger footings.

  • @TitoTellsTheTruth
    @TitoTellsTheTruth 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How far apart do you space the posts holding the rollers?

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Roller post should be about a foot less than half the width of the opening. So if I was setting post for a 20 foot opening, I would set the roller post about 9 feet apart.

    Is there a way I could do that with vinyl , I have a customer that wants a 16' cantilever gate

    • @SWiFence
      @SWiFence  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can build a steel cantilever gate and attach the vinyl on top of it using standoffs.

    I have had fun dealing with gates like that. At least you do not have to deal with a language barrler like we do in south Florida. It has been many years since I have seen a white man work outside here. Has been even longer since I saw a son do physical work with his dad.
