As much as i love all 3 Burzum is hands down the best. Not only musically but in general. Keep in mind he did all his own albums start to finish but was in Mayhem and wrote like half the lyrics on "Transylvanian Hunger" shouldnt be a contest with 1 man playing a key part in the biggest albums of both Mayhem and Datkthrone. Im assuming most of yall know this though. Just spitting thoughts into the void of the internet.
I feel like Burzum nailed a vibe that felt most removed from obvious influences and is somehow more iconic. I love Darkthrone but it's very easy to spot the Celtic Frost love. Mayhem seems born out of Bathory but that's not to say they obviously didn't really bring that evil icey tremolo picking style to the forefront. What is really funny is listening to riffs and BMP of Chainsaw Gutsfuck and Deathcrush and then listening Nirvana's Bleach album. It's like they also laid down the tracks for what would be come sludge--->grunge.

I actually taught myself guitar by sounding out burzum riffs, so many killer and memorable guitar riffs in his discography. That sliding riff on the aske opening track was my first one I learned, feeble creams from forests unknown, lost wisdom, my journey to the stars, and dunkelheit were some other favorites
actually a bit unfair, because Darkthrone always had and have damn awesome riffs on every album. they also have a lot more releases to choose from than the other two.

Since it's winter I'd say you did this one at the right time! Good stuff man. I like the way it started too. Freezing Moon is so iconic when it comes to Norwegian black metal. I thought for Burzum you would've thrown in Dunkelheit but I still enjoyed it. \m/

The main difference is Varg writes a lot of melodies. There's a lot of riffs where both guitar parts are playing something different. Mayhem and Darkthrone have some really dark and heavy riffs, but Burzum has dark mysticism.
Many comments about how Varg was ‘ahead of his time’ or ‘in a league of his own’ but I think his riffs are literally the most symphonically simple and approachable of the three. So of course they will be more well-liked but that doesn’t make them better.
Hilarious that I was just looking up Black Metal bands last night. I love the atmosphere and guitars of these bands, yet they are really bad people. I mean like murder. Well anyway, great job Miguel, you have done it again. Always very entertaining hearing your guitar playing. It always makes me wanna go back and listen to the bands.
