As a framer/carpenter of over 30 years, 1000% on hearing protection. Your older self will be immensely grateful to your younger self for sticking some foam plugs in your ears…..Why doesn’t somebody answer that dang phone!? 🔔🔔🔔
My comment as well. There was a lot more to it than power-tools and impacts, but had I known! I used plugs for the drive through car wash and vacuum station today. Never stops, only varies in intensity and sometimes shape.
Great job, McCoy, one day you will be the man! Working with the best. As a 40 year retired machinist, “Think Safety” when dealing with hammers and chisels. Safety glasses will be your best friend.
Dad mode activated: Eric, you’re welcome to risk your eyes and destroy your ears but please consider the example you’re setting for McCoy. Hearing damage is cumulative, and he’s only a kid. Please don’t get me wrong - I have massive respect for you and your mind, work ethic, and willingness to share your knowledge. ❤
Note at the 1:44 mark how Eric rotates the drive axle as he starts the second cut so the boot does not overheat and possible get damaged. That's a PRO move there folks! :)
McCoy is very fortunate to have a mentor like Eric. I hope he understands the opportunity he is being provided. Not just mechanical knowledge, but how to be a man.
The other day he said Josh is still with him. Eric is the kind of employer who treats employees well and therefore retains them. I’d take a wild guess that when Eric retires that Josh would be the next proprietor of the shop.
Man, knowing what I know NOW, I'd of PAID big $$$ to be mentored by Eric. Even now at my semi-advanced age I learn something new from every video. McCoy, you are truly blessed, brother.
I found that Moog’s control arms with pre-installed ball joints were only a tad more expensive than the ball joint alone. Made life a whole lot easier than having to deal with a ball joint press and a very stubborn joint. Just replace the whole control arm.
Teach McCoy to wear safety glasses! Nice job Mr. O. The torch for the win! My Dad used it a lot in his shop. Hopefully the Hondoo will last a lot longer. It looked pretty good underneath.
As rusty as that chassis was, Josh probably had his hands full getting it aligned. It’s amazing what you guys do to get bolts loosened and removed! Your touch skills are amazing.
He’s a good teacher/mentor because coming into the trade myself and learning 2 shop owners became my worst nightmare with verbal and sometimes physical abuse for dropping a socket every now and then
Mccoy has no idea how lucky he is to have such a great mentor. I'm a master tech 18 years in the trade and owe a great deal of my hands on knowledge to the tech that mentored me early in my career. Thanks Tommy D and I'm doing my best to pass on the knowledge to the next generation.
Eric, Great video - thank you. The way you decribed how the vehicle would pull left/right and that the customer didnt complain about it is hilarious. Paul (in MA) ps mother is half a word

I wish there were more guy's like Eric around to keep them running. Nobody wants to do the kind of work that you do buddy ! Looks like you have a great helper in this video . Keep on truckin Eric & McCoy.
What's "disposable" about this Pilot? It has 200K miles of living in the salt of NYC and just now getting ball joints/lower control arms replaced. That's a pretty good life and I'd like you to suggest a make/model/year SUV that doesn't need at a minimum ball joint replacement at 200K...
McCoy’s gotta learn to either put on PPE or engage safety squints. His face that close…I was cringing the whole time. He’s learning from one of the best, let’s keep him safe. I’m so impressed by Astro. The half sized sockets are genius and the fact that E did not break that swivel putting that kind of weird angle torque…Love it! Luv me sum SMA video ❤
Monday morning watching SMA with the flame wrench! What a start to the week! If your hands are not dirty then you have not done any work? The Force is strong with the young apprentice! Keep up with the teaching Obi Wan……
You go, Bones!!! Nice to see you working with Eric. You are learning from the master for sure. Hopefully we will be watching you in lots of future videos. Get some PPE on is my only advice for you.
I would have loved to have you as a father teaching me all the things you need to know in the area where you live.... All that rust. I hope your legacy will live on. Your father would be as proud of you as I bet your are off McCoy!
It is so good to see McCoy coming along so well! Eric, I think the next step is to have him do all the work while you narrate and suggest (teach) the finer points. He will learn so much more, and build confidence that way. When I was teaching, I would ‘throw the student into the pool’ when they were still a ways off from completing their training with me in order for them to gain confidence, and truly finish at “Entry Level”.
Wow, the apprentice gets to use the big ugga dugga in your shop? Cool. The owner of the tire shop I worked at as a kid made newbies use the tire irons to change tires for a month before you could use the machines.
Agreed. Moog has been around for decades however, companies we've known as old timers do and have been outsourcing their parts to outside places like China without lowering prices nor informing the old time loyal customers of those changes ! Although, Moog has been a step above we believe to this day. Again...no collateral damage to the customers vehicle as it should be in all repairs.
Love your stuff Mr.O. but glasses and plugs or muffs are a must for impact and hammer work. Nice to keep your hearing and your ears into old age. Cheers
As a dude that suffers from Tinnitus - please have ya boy McCoy get in the habit of using ear/eye protection when using the ugga-dugga gun and other loud tools. His mental health and vision will appreciate it 30 years from now. I wouldn't wish it on my enemy never mind my apprentice.
You should make sure McCoy wears safety glasses when when undoing bolts while looking up from under the bolts and working the air gun. You can make a choice to wear or not to wear safety glasses but since he is being trained, train him the correct way.
These things were known to leak. Honda extended the warranty to 8 years as I recall. We had ours done under the extended warranty. Obviously way too long for this Pilot but they were for sure a very common failure. Great job!
MOOG in the UK use to be my go to for an inbetween cheap and OEM and never had any problems, these days i have nothing but problems with ball joints / track rod ends and drop links lasting 6 months then need replacing again. ive stopped using them unless its the only brand that has that item i need in stock
Old add on 4 wheel steer option on the high mileage Honda. Nice fix! By the way, I know you've got to have one, but the pickle on the air hammer is much more fun. My opinion anyway.
McCoy has the ultimate teacher.. Awesome. But i sure learned a lot from Mr. O, Ivan, and others. Im never to old to learn. Going to help out my buddy this morning. A Buick Verona front struts. Found out you need a special socket with a torx to remove the nut on top. Modified a socket last night after i got home from his house. Been working with him for many years. I retired early and he retired recently. With our pensions from work. Im glad i had a union or else i would have no pension at all. Say all you want. But is the company you work for has a pension for YOU? Or is the company so great they are just giving the pension to you at the goodness for their own heart. Anyway cheers
Ah this kicks me back to an old video of yours where you spoke of the advanced (carquest) smelly brakes out of the box lol, we use napa for certain things, but never suspension components haha. How about their sway bar link lock nuts!? Good luck using those! Straight in the trash those nuts go! Thanks for the continued content much love as always!
I do wish McCoy started the habit of ear and eye protection. He’s young still.
Thirty years from now, McCoy will be trying to break a nut free and will utter "Mother of Pearl!" Eric's legacy will be secure.

Very true and priceless in the shop as well as the company good ethics with SMA in repairs and customers best interests.
didn't even damage the threads, eric you are a genius with the torch.
Dr. O is very proficient with his red scalpel
Technically not heating the bolt anyway...at least not hot enough to torch through
Welcome back "ole Vic" Got to get me a torch like that some day
Good to see McCoy getting some hands on experience. Good to see the schools are still offering the program to get the kids out in the real world.
HAD not heard you mention Josh in a while.
Glad he is still with you.
The other day he said Josh is still with him. Eric is the kind of employer who treats employees well and therefore retains them. I’d take a wild guess that when Eric retires that Josh would be the next proprietor of the shop.
Yes, he mentioned that Josh gets to listen to music while he works.
@@clintprice2123: I would put money on Eric's eldest son.
First rule dealing with rust young Mcoy is proper eye squint and mouth closed 😊
Once he mixes some iron oxide with his gum he's chewing, he might change the way he chews his gum. Never know, old habits die hard!!
Ha, engage safety squint!😀
You only get 1 pair of eyes. Take care of them. Always wear safety glasses.

Hi Eric ,it,s good to see a young lad who,s not afraid to get his hands dirty ,here in the UK nearly impossible to find !!!!

😂 so true.
