Great video. Lostwithiel is a town which most people just pass through without realising what an attractive and interesting hidden gem it is. I understand the attraction of the Cornish coast, but there is so much to explore inland too! many thanks.
After seeing a TikTok on Lostwithiel I searched TH-cam for videos on the town. I thoroughly enjoyed the walking tour. You two are both informative and quite charming.
This was a fabulous walk Sarah and Andrew, around such a lovely town 👌. I have loved many an hour there, either in the Globe pub for a celebration meal or selling ceramics that I used to make in the town hall 😁. There's a nice walk along the river too and a trail leading along side the railway track...good for dog walking 🐾. I always enjoy the history of the buildings and how gorgeous was that old fire station 😍. How amazing to find that thirteenth century alabaster fragment in the church 💞, and I had to laugh about the lease on that house 😋. I think Andrew should be put in the stocks for his continual jokes 😂...love them really. I'm really upset that I missed the snail race though... perhaps it's still going on maybe 😂🐌...🐌...🐌 😁👌💝😘

A beautiful little Town, and another great walk with your unique humorous commentary, Andrew gets worse! in a good way, you both do make a dull day very enjoyable, you might well scratch your head and look puzzled at the 3,000year old lease stone, that is unbelievable! I have a vague recollection of once upon a time we visited a Lost Church of Lostwithiel, I think it had been buried under sand over the years, or, was I dreaming! It wasn’t the grand Church you visited with the incredible alabaster figure of St.Bartholomew from the 13th. Century, would your guide book mention anything about any such thing Sarah! It would obviously be among sand dunes as we never went into the town, thank you 😊 for another enjoyable stroll back through the ages Sarah & Andrew 🤗

Wadebridge, but have stayed at Perranporth for many years, must be St.Piran’s it sounds familiar, don’t like this getting old bit at all, I can remember being fired on by an enemy aircraft when I was just over five years old and being narrowly missed, I can still see his face he was that low, but I can’t remember St.Pirans, weird! see you on next Walking Trail, 👋
Seeing the plaque on the wall I believe it had the name , Mary Jane on it , this brought back memories of Jane`s father who was a man of St Ives. He had a saying which went " Please yourself Mary Jane half a crown is a lot of money ". Now whether this was an old Cornish saying or not we don`t know . We loved the video so very interesting , it`s always surprising the interest you can find in a small town,,,,,,,,Brian&Jane
I shall hereby call Andrew the Grand Old Duke of York from now on....as you marched him up to the top of the hill and then you marched him down again....several times! Hada real Deja Vu moment the other day...it's a strange odd feeling when it happens & lasted at least half a minute before it disappeared! Lostwithiel is a lovely little town with a village hall that puts on all sorts of events including regular indoor boots and antiques fairs. As always, a fun filled entertaining little history tour. x J x

We spent a few hours the other year at Lostwithiel station, waiting for a clay train to come through on its way down to Gollant. I do remember a man busking in one of the streets, simply because he was dreadful. Great and interesting film that next time im in the town i will have a good look around.

Discovered you both about 3 weeks ago. Great to watch the walks and your quirky banter. Why do you show the map after the walk has ended? BTW, watched the Weleggen? walk. Not sure of the spelling. Crikey, a 10 year old guide and it was like an ancient river bed. Those tire marks were a mystery. Thanks for suggesting it was a local farmer with one tire, rolling it through the mud.
We show the map at the end because we cannot really say much about the map until we have walked it. Unlike a tv show, it's just us pitching up on the day! Sarah :)
Thanks for sharing that it was nice to hear the bells chiming in the church clock. A long time ago I was the clock Winder it was my job to go up the tower twice a week and wind the clock this was a long time ago I think it's battery operated now if you're ever passing through that way again take a walk down the Goosey town that was the old name for the section of town along the Floyd River hopefully I will get there again directly..
We have covered the Christmas lights a couple of times, one of which includes walk along the SWCP to Lamorna. We also have a virtual walk of Mousehole. Sarah :)

I love watching your videos! My partner and I have been watching a few each night since we discovered them a few months ago. I am not an expert in this sort of thing, but I believe that the inscription at 21.52 isn't French (although the words 'de' and 'et' could be mistaken for French words) but Mediaeval Latin: 'BURGI DE LOSTWITHYEL ET PENKNIGHT IN CORNUBIA' ( if BURGI is a genitive singular ,meaning'Of the Town of Lostwithiel and Penknight in Cornwall' perhaps meaning '[This] belongs to the town of Lostwithiel and Penknight in Cornwall' , or if the word BURGI is nominative plural then it would mean 'the towns of Lostwithiel and Penknight in Cornwall'. (Some of the letters in 'CORNUBIA' are slightly damaged). 'Burgus' is a Late Latin word derived from a Germanic root, for a castle, and in Mediaeval Latin for a (walled) town, and can be still seen in place names like Gettysburg or St Petersburg, as well as being connected to words like 'bourgeois', 'burgher' and 'borough'. A borough was a self-governing town in the Middle Ages, and apparently there was a 'second borough recorded adjacent to Lostwithiel named Penknight, which had a sudden and short-lived existence' according to a Cornwall Heritage website www.cornwallheritage.com/news-blogs/ertach-kernow-blogs/ertach-kernow-rich-layers-of-towns-history-lostwithiel-18/ So the inscription may perhaps be best rendered ( depending on the grammatical role of the word BURGI )'Of the Borough of Lostwithiel and Penknight in Cornwall' or 'The Boroughs of Lostwithiel and Penknight in Cornwall'. I think somebody's got a case of the heat-sillies - LoL! Gorgeous little town filled with interesting historical tid-bits, complete with medieval bridge spanning welcoming creek perfect for cooling dips on sweltering summer afternoons. I wonder how long the descendents of Mr. 3,000-Year-Lease-Stone retained that property once he was history, if at all?
Re: Snail racing. Many years ago a friend of mine was heavily into snail racing. After many races he managed to get a special snail into pole position at all of his races. After a time he began to feel that he needed a real challenge and so entered for the euro formula 1 championship which was being held in France. At the race meeting he was told he had to either have a number or a letter so that the commentators could pick him out from the rest of the field, which really wasn`t that difficult, because he was the only snail their, the rest were all racing cars. and so he settled for the letter S painted on his shell. And so, for his own safety, it was decided that he should start at the back of the grid. He wasn`t appy about that, Never mind he would do his best. As the tension built the lights went from red to green and they were off, As they picked up the pace the snail with his bright yellow S on his shell was weaving in and out and gaining position after position. The commentator in his excitement, jumped to his feet and repeatedly shouted at the top of his voice " Look at that S car go"
Funny I have several deja vu moments and my husband says he's had none in his entire 65 yrs!!! Yes I think you're right Andrew you have been there before!😂🤣 lol. Don't think I would have the patience to watch a snail 🐌 race, even the fast pacing ones!! So funny🤣

I think you could be thinking of either St Piran's oratory at perranporth or St Enodoc, near Wadebridge, where John Betjeman is buried. Sarah :)

In Cornish, 'forth' means street and its thought it has been changed by the English over the years to Fore. So it's Street Street! Sarah :)
