@@covertgoblue I was watching that episode thinking “an entire table on Shuffle Up & Play kept hands with zero spot removal” AND “is it possible Voxy will simply remove it herself?!”
Voxy and CGB are like siblings bickering and I love it, this is hilarious. Their dynamic is great, and then Rarran is the cousin over for a visit trying to keep up with their shenanigans
And I really really hope the commander games get uploaded too (Cimo as well would be sick). Its been so cool seeing other TCG players getting into other games (as someone who loves em all).
I love being the enemy, usually, I tell people in their turns that I can kill them, only to be feared for a moment and five seconds later being absolutly destroyed
Honestly disagree. If you wanna introduce a friend to the friend group. Being the bad guy at the table can be a great way for the new friend to bond with the others too
Yeah! This happens all the time, because I don’t like to win out of nowhere, so I always say it one full turn cycle ahead of time, or whenever I figure it out
I will say that Gonti (or any "play your opponents cards" deck) can be daunting for a first commander. Instead of having this set 99 you can get familiar with ahead of time, you'll have over a dozen cards you've never seen before, some of which could have convoluted text, that you have to figure out a good use for on the fly.
Additionally, it turns you into the Archenemy REAL fast. People seem find with Green players doing infinite ramp and Blue players having infinite draw, but you steal ONE card from you opponent's deck and they black out with rage.
For zulodok they didn’t mention that most decks aside from monsters the rest of the deck is colorless mana rocks to play your monsters faster. It’s not unlikely for you to have 6 mana on turn 3 or 4.
There's also a lot of cool colourless spells, but I'm not sure if the precon runs them aside from the ones that are similar to zhulodok, triggering off of cast spells, cascading etc.
Some other commanders Rarran might like (these don't have precons afaik): Erebos, God of the Dead - he likes Warlock in HS and this guy literally has infinite life tap, and is indestructible. He also prevents other players from gaining life which lends well to a more grindy attrition-style game. Mono black so no worries about getting color screwed. Pretty open-ended, not very flashy or bombastic which could be used to your advantage in laying low. Ayara, First of Locthwain - play creatures, drain your opponents. Sac those creatures, draw cards. No need to worry about navigating combat, also mono black but she is fragile. The Scarab God - kill people just by having lots of zombies, can also make 4/4 copies of creatures from any graveyard. Can avoid commander tax, has plenty of options, only two colors. Marchesa, the Black Rose - encourages attacking whoever has the most life which could prevent some player aggro, and she can bring back your creatures automatically. Very straightforward and aggressive plan but 3 colors. Navigating combat could be tricky but her colors are good for evasion and removal. Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - all about sacrificing for gains. Three colors but one is green which is good at fixing mana. Doesn't look like much on his own but his decks can be very powerful. Tergrid, God of Fright - one of my personal favorites. Make people discard or sacrifice permanents then put them into play on your side for free. Very mean, people will probably hate your guts, but very fun imo. The downsides are that many discard and sacrifice effects let your opponent choose and if you don't have Tergrid out with your removal you're not doing much. Also mono black. Squee - obviously.

I feel like this could be fun for a King of the Hill style format. This continues until one player runs out of picks. Otherwise get the guest to draft a deck with people presenting cards for the guest to pick like Hearthstone arena format.
I can't wait until the gameplay with this group is released! Voxy, CGB, Crim all in a pod will be AMAZING. Looking forward to see what Rarran brings to the table too
I saw Zhulodok and thought "Oh they should have done Ulalek, that's way stronger and more fun", then I remembered how good you have to be at understanding the stack. Probably not a good first commander. CGB being a smol bean player explains why I relate so much in play style. I've won so many games by saying "I don't think I can win" because I tend to think of how screwed an opponent would be if I had them in my position and then nobody does anything to me for 4 turns and suddenly I have 3 emblems from Planeswalkers and nobody can even touch me.
48:15 Um, actually you don't have to pick a *legendary* creature as your ring bearer. It'll become a legendary creature, but that's only after. It can be any creature. 57:28 Fun fact: Phelddagrif is an anagram for Garfield Phd. - the creator of MTG (Richard Garfield Phd).
Being that Rarran's most common issue with MTG is the land system, I think Rarran is going to have a lot of fun with Zhulodok. I think giving him a 3-color+ deck (or 2-color in some cases) might have been overkill. Allowing him to play a deck in which he doesn't have to worry about the color fixing will allow him to focus entirely on just having an absolute blast casting big spells that, in some instances, don't really care if they're countered. Excellent job, guys!
I haven't looked super hard in the comments for someone else saying this also, but Cacophony Unleashed doesn't kill anything if it's reanimated, it's an ETB, but it specifies "if you cast it".
Another strong point for going colorless is that the colorless cardpool is very limited in comparison to multicolored Commanders, which may sound like a detriment in terms of deckbuilding flexibility, but it also severly reduces the amount of card knowledge needed to build a cohesive deck, which is actually very adventagous when building your first ever commander deck. You just don't get as overwhelmed by all the options that exist.
While this makes sense, they're going to build the deck for him. (In fact, they're going to take the precon and swap a few cards, as they said.) I'd say this is a good start for someone who has never played a (physical) card before.
This gives massive "if you play this, I will throw you out of the shop" energy, which is completely valid. I love playing blue/white, but I will never put Augustin in any of my decks.
Would've loved to see Rarran get at least one "Warlocky" suggestion. I was surprised not to see something like Mirko or Tegwyll (if we go with recent precons), or maybe even go as far back as Meren. Had some great laughs this video though. I can imagine Rarran having fun Cascading!
you should have emphasized the ramp on zhulodok when roxy said he comes out turn 6 lol, how you can get degenerate sol ring, mana rock, mana rock turn 3 zhulodok lol
I play commander for a longer time now and a friend of mine wanted to get into it. When he asked me what commander he should build i told him it should be the legendary creature you like the most. So now we always have a Kudo, King among Bears on our table because; Bears and Hugs ^^ Let Rarran go through the mtg card database and look for the legendary creature he instantly thinks its cool and vibes with ^^
Some precons you could've considered for the warlock mana cheater cat lover land hater that is Rarran: Meren (grind grind grind), Kaalia (free is the best mana cheat), Arahbo (what better way to alleviate the fears of losing your commander when you dont even have play them), Omo (teach him to love lands!)
To be fair, colorless decks ramp like crazy. I've never seen a colorless deck reach turn 5 with any less than 10 mana unless they're doing really poorly.
I can't wait to see Rarran play EDH live, it's been teased for so long. Usually dude's really good at making content and is charismatic af but taken out of his comfort zone he might become suuper awkward, and I'm here for it. Nothing more refreshing to see that the content creators are human after all. That being said, I hope CGB and Voxy will be there, that will propably make his first experience feel a lot more familiar and that way better as well. Edit: I just learned it will be CGB, Voxy, Rarran and Crim playing.
Oh God bless TH-cam for suggest me Rarran few years ago. You guys all in my life because of it and is SO Glad it happe. Love your personalities and vibes. Woohoo Rarranverse xD
Great Concept for a video! I love the flavorful way you present some of those commanders. I think this format has a lot of potential, especialy if it gets smoothed out. Improvements would include teaching the participant the most important rules beforehand, like commander tax etc.
Voxy is so dirty for claiming that Zhulodok comes out on turn 6. Zhulodok comes out on turn 3. Then it gets removed. Then it comes out again on turn 4 and gets removed. Then it STILL comes out again on turn 5, because its a colourless deck, and all its ramp spells are hyper-efficient mana-positive plays. If one entire opponent takes a turn off every turn to remove your commander, you WILL still cast it for 10 or 12 later, and get value from it XD
The energy here is impeccable I love all u goobers keep it up I can't wait to hear voxy's screeches as she is suddenly and inevitably betrayed by Rarran
Voxy hair makes me think she’s Boros, and CGB’s decoration makes him look Dimir. And they are both fighting for which colors Rarran is going to be… His ultimate choice genuinely feels very appropriate.
Worth mentioning, Gonti is a pretty terrible commander to choose for remote play games on spelltable. You need to have opponents show you the top card of their deck and exile it, then you need them to keep track of which card is exiled in which turn, so that you can reference it later when you cast it. And this all needs to happen without anyone else at the table seeing the revealed card. If it was revealed faceup it would be way easier, but being looked at and exiled face down means that it should be hidden information which makes it way harder to use remote.
Some suggestions for Rarran: (not precons) Mono Red Goblins - Muxus (barf goblins on the field, also run fun spells! Jim Davis played this it's a good time) OmNomNom - Ygra (Shae played this. Disgusting and super fun) For precons probably... Sliver Gravemother . Cuz slivers are GROSS and fun - add reanimation options to not get blown out of the water? Dogmeat. Super powerful precon commander. EDIT: Anikthea is super sick. Out of the ones showcased that would be the one I woulda shown Rarran.
Kind of expected the result as soon as it was revealed but this was entertaining to watch this all, mostly because of Voxy and CGB’s pregame politics. I think there are a few precons I would have liked to see but over all, good selection. And CGB is right, don’t sleep on the bunny.
The fact that they’re forcing themselves to ONLY precons is awesome! My first thought when I saw that Rarren was choosing a Commander was Rowan, Scion of War. If y’all do this again with non-precons, I’d 100% grab it IMMEDIATELY! Rarren, being a Warlock main in Hearthstone means he likes self pain. Who better than the goddess of pain herself? (Also mana cheating is disgusting is his, like, #1 catch phrase)
YOU MONSTER, THE RABBIT IS AWESOME! You just need to drop every grouphug card from the deck and she becomes an absolute unit with an huge ass that grows out of control, what is not to love about it?
Tbh that sounds like Paladin (or, idk... Naga Priest, Automaton Priest, Pogo Rogue, Rocket Hopper Shaman...) and Rarran isn't a Paladin player. Give him a Blue/Black guy that's really evil and has demons and cards that can be casted for cheaper (this literally a oldschool hearthstone deck btw)
Ms. Bumbleflower is my first ever commander and I love her. I've upgraded the precon deck a fair bit while keeping the main win cons the same (psychosis crawler, simic ascendancy, triskaidekaphile... punch them in the face with a giant vigilant flying commander). It has been a lot of fun to play. And food for though... her ability is a CRIME (freestrider lookout rips land out of your deck so fast)
I'd have suggested Radha, Heir to Keld. While not splashy, basically makes sure you get to 4 mana turn 3, mostly solving Rarran's main issue of getting screwed on lands. Plus no one's gonna bother using removal on it outside of incidentally in a boardwipe when dealing with something else.
Now Rarran needs to go play Sucker for love to gain his gym badge for handling Dem' Big Booty Eldritch Cuties, so he can special summon his commander in defensive position or some other children's card game nonsense
I love how Voxy responds by destroying everything about CGBs commander suggestions, while CGB just keeps hyping her commanders, remembering he's supposed to disagree, and insulting Rarran's intelligence. And he still won.
Dang was hopping the first Rarren commander video would be with the deck I had made for him, but I am not disappointed at all. I know I will love the video for the commander game either way. Love the commander choices really solid first decks to build cant wait to watch it.
Commander players getting mad at thief decks is so confusing to me, i played a game and this guy was apologising about it and i thought it just sounded fun
Casual players don't want other people using their cards against them, or touching their cards, even when it's pretty weak in comparison to other strategies. That's why if you play a theft deck you gotta go all-in on being the archenemy and bring your evilest costume and deck.
@@altrivotzck6565 It also leads to pretty awful table situations where the best way to stop the thief player is to kill the person they have been stealing from which just makes that person miserable. Or even worse, someone concedes just to remove all their stuff from the thief player's board.

(In fact, they're going to take the precon and swap a few cards, as they said.) I'd say this is a good start for someone who has never played a (physical) card before.
whenever I see Augustin hit the board I give a friendly reminder to all people at the table that "player removal is the best removal"
This gives massive "if you play this, I will throw you out of the shop" energy, which is completely valid. I love playing blue/white, but I will never put Augustin in any of my decks.
ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!
I'm only halfway through the video and this is already the best collab video ever.
So now we always have a Kudo, King among Bears on our table because; Bears and Hugs ^^ Let Rarran go through the mtg card database and look for the legendary creature he instantly thinks its cool and vibes with ^^
We need "Love In The Command Zone" as a real show. Make it happen!
Now I'm excited to see these three and Crim all play commander together
who is Crim?
@@csarmij he's on MTG Goldfish
Some precons you could've considered for the warlock mana cheater cat lover land hater that is Rarran:
Meren (grind grind grind), Kaalia (free is the best mana cheat), Arahbo (what better way to alleviate the fears of losing your commander when you dont even have play them), Omo (teach him to love lands!)
To be fair, colorless decks ramp like crazy. I've never seen a colorless deck reach turn 5 with any less than 10 mana unless they're doing really poorly.
Rarran very much seems like someone who would love to play Dimir or the 3 color variants of it.
27:11 the ultimate Gonti move: Rarran simply gets Crim's deck
Oh God bless TH-cam for suggest me Rarran few years ago. You guys all in my life because of it and is SO Glad it happe. Love your personalities and vibes. Woohoo Rarranverse xD
Zhulodok seems pretty much like Druid in HS and murfolk man looks like zoolok or deamonhunter 😅
wow! new episode of love in the command zone just dropped
56:55 For anyone who's not aware, Phelddagrif is an anagram for Garfield, PhD.
Always a good video when we get to hear Rarran's signature line a lot: "it's tough."
Voxy, CGB, Rarran, and Crim all in a game? Oh I'm so excited
Lets keep it a buck. Rarrans only choice is his boy Sku-E. Its a real grand slam if its Slimefoot and Sku-E, the three of em form the unholy trinity
I watch Shuffle up and play and seeing Voxy is still upset about the moistcritical game is so funny.
The energy here is impeccable I love all u goobers keep it up I can't wait to hear voxy's screeches as she is suddenly and inevitably betrayed by Rarran
"A lot of exploring, you can call me Dora" got me so good lmao
Voxy hair makes me think she’s Boros, and CGB’s decoration makes him look Dimir. And they are both fighting for which colors Rarran is going to be…
His ultimate choice genuinely feels very appropriate.
love this group, yall are having a great time and it def translate to the viewers well. cheers
52:01 the most skilled gaslight I’ve seen in a while
You're trying to get this guy run outta town with these commanders lol
34:37 I love how Voxy says its Sultai when its actually Abzan, then asks if he knows what menace is.. Voxy is the real menace.
22:53 Hero speech + Eye roll that can't do justice. Thanks Cgb for the content !
This video has sibling energy in the best way
Voxy and I had basically the same reaction to finding out Crim was joining. We love crim in this house
Anikthea's milkshake brings all the boys from the 'yard
I mean, his commander is Squee, he loves the guy
Some suggestions for Rarran: (not precons)
Mono Red Goblins - Muxus (barf goblins on the field, also run fun spells! Jim Davis played this it's a good time)
OmNomNom - Ygra (Shae played this. Disgusting and super fun)
For precons probably...
Voxy shitting on rarran while trying to convince him to choose her commander pick is so funny LOL 35:05
Sauron might be rough. The ring tempting you is a mechanic that is hard to keep track of.
Yeesh. This just feels like watching friends hang out. Amazing vibe and fun and can’t wait to watch the commander game.
Clicked the like button before the video started. Theres no world where ill feel otherwise
Put these 3 together and they can discuss politics or paint n is still watch. They have awesome chemistry together
Im hyped for this commander game especially with Crim as the 4th
Kind of expected the result as soon as it was revealed but this was entertaining to watch this all, mostly because of Voxy and CGB’s pregame politics. I think there are a few precons I would have liked to see but over all, good selection. And CGB is right, don’t sleep on the bunny.
yes Voxy the graveyard is just the yard
The yard podcast
The Yardcast
Weewooweewoo nerd police - Abzan was called Sultai @ 34:40
An interesting option to the bunny could be Nekusar, the Mindrazer, an old commander deck. Group hug, but everyone else get thorny hugs
I never managed to make that deck work out well for me with any sort of consistency, but it was lots of fun regardless!
I have for sure cast a spell to have everyone draw cards enough to kill everyone else simultaneously
I can't lie, the dopamine from hard casting an eldrazi titan and slamming that thang on the table is some of the greatest in the world 👌👌👌
@@altrivotzck6565 I think a lot of it comes down to commander being highlander, everyone has a few favorite cards and not getting to interact with them can feel bad. It’s similar to why discard is disliked by some people.
Also to be frank sometimes people at card shops are not the most hygienic and I don't want your cheeto encrusted hands on my valuable cards
@@GnomallyOrcward didn’t think about that tbf, thats a pretty fair reason to not like it
9:17 "You gotta think about every body else at the table will feel as you play it and if you stop them too hard." Couldn't agree more... *squints* "CovertGoBlue".
