On an FWD car, preloading the rear suspension can actually increase your 0-60 time by giving you a better launch. As the weight shifts to the rear of the car durong launch, the preloaded suspension helps keep more weight over the front wheels for better traction.
Just picked up my 09 Mk5 last week, currently dealing with headlight struggles at the moment but she is also my project! Wish me luck and thank you for the Vid!
Had some issues with MY MK5. Passenger Xenon didn't wanna work. Turns out it needed a replacement ballast. Very simple fix. Both Xenon's point outward though still, need to reset their positioning with a VAGCOM
Nice informative video. In the past when I’ve changed shocks on my t5 transporter and 2k caddy which have this style hub. I have used the pinch bolt and put it into the threaded side of the hub, I’ve then put a chisel in the gap and wound the bolt in till it touches the chisel which separates the hub enough to remove the shock. I should really invest in a spreader but I never have 😂
Having had this done to my MK5, i just wondered if you've experienced any rubbing issues on the front? Usually on these some arch liner mods are required!!
We currently don’t have any rubbing issues on the front, but I have had issues on my previous GTI lowered on coilovers. A lot has to do with your wheel and tire setup and then of course how low you are on your coilovers aswell
Hi I have these and had a problem, so I’m not sure I’m my strut is in all the way because when it was in, when I tried putting in the bolts where the spline sockets go underneath the sway bar end link, there was a blockage.
They weren’t original shocks no. The previous owner had them replaced. We replaced them because we wanted to use coilovers hence the video and not use the stock ride height
So far can’t complain. It rides great even being this low unfortunately we only driven the car with the Konis for maybe 15 miles or so since that’s how the car came when we bought it
Yes it is. It’s actually linked in the description of the video if you wanted to check them out! Def worth it honestly, very affordable and very comfortable
@@shaneankrom784 honestly they ride really well! I have bilstein son my Audi s3 on the channel and they’re practically the same except the price tag haha. Here in nj the roads are awful so to me they feel the same
Yea I know what your saying with the roads.Former Nj native but now in PA roads are awful especially in winter .Yea I was curious about the difference due to the price point difference but you have me convinced to give this kit a shot .Ecs sells nice stuff very impressed
May I know wheel size? ET and how width? 8,5 or 9? I have 235/35/R19 tires and ET42 and 8,5 wheels and thinking to get BC Racing coilovers but I'm not sure if I will able to lower it that much since wheels are a bit out. (mk6)
They’re stock so it’s 225/40R18 I’m not sure what the width is unfortunately. But yeah you’ll have clearance issues with bigger wheels if you go low low. Also if you go with a thinner tire you’ll be able to reduce some clearance issues
Yeah most likely, we plan to put a bigger turbo on so we might hold off on the downpipe for a little while but definitely going to get a catback or make one not sure yet!
This is about how my own mk5 sits right now but mine needs a new set of coil overs. The one that came on the car our shit now and don’t drive as well as it could
It's a solid height for sure! We're gonna do some testing on these coilovers soon so we'll let you know how they perform but as of now the quality seemed amazing
Oh boy hahah we always had trouble remembering this. I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction so unfortunately I don't have an answer besides just try spinning it one way and then see if that works. I'm sure there's an answer on Google or TH-cam somewhere!
funny cause this is when they discontinued this system, everything was made by some off brand chinese company. ecs sent me a scratch and dent street system with 1 missing front coilover and you couldnt find a proper replacement for the strut or the springs. go air
Hey man I have a 2007 mk5 and want to lower it with coilovers (currently running 18 x 8.5 +45 with 225/40R18) Do you think a 1inch drop will work or do I have to downsize the tires?
Was there anything extra you had to purchase to make them fit in the car? not tools, I mean suspension hardware, spacers, whasers? etc749 I am debating if I buy this kit you installed, currently at 499, or the next up, ES#4045771 that is 749.00.
@@RatchetWrenches thanks for the reply, after checking other reviews, I went with the adjustable dampening set, it was 774 with tax. At least I can use your video as a guide when installing them.
As a Mk5 owner myself keep these videos coming please - cannot get enough of them 👏👏
We will thank you!!
Keep the MK5 content coming! 🔥
Don’t worry there’s plenty more coming!

You should paint the black plastic red they sell the paint on Amazon I did it on my mk5 like the edition 30
That would be sick! Yeah we're definitely thinking of painting the trim pieces just not sure what color. Thanks for the suggestion 👍🏼
Love this content absolutely love your bringing back the mk5 ❤
Thanks for the support! We're glad to have one back on the channel with huge things coming for it!
Hi I have these and had a problem, so I’m not sure I’m my strut is in all the way because when it was in, when I tried putting in the bolts where the spline sockets go underneath the sway bar end link, there was a blockage.
Were those original shocks from a jetta? Whered you get those from and why you replace them?
They weren’t original shocks no. The previous owner had them replaced. We replaced them because we wanted to use coilovers hence the video and not use the stock ride height
My god the price of these coil overs is astonishing. I’m definitely gonna order a set for Gigi.
Hell yeah! The sale price right now is amazing
Koni shock struts are a very good ones, so, how are the ECS coilovers compared to the Koni shock struts?
So far can’t complain. It rides great even being this low unfortunately we only driven the car with the Konis for maybe 15 miles or so since that’s how the car came when we bought it
Off topic question but where do you place the jack to lift the car?
Along the pinch weld there’s a point that’s extended out that allows you to put the Jack there
Is this the full street suspension kit ecs sells ? Been eye balling for my mark 6 gti

not slammed but its pretty decent, needs bigger wheels and skinnier tires then you'll be like sheeeesh!!
Yeah we went lower off camera and the tires were rubbing the fender so we need slimmer tires and we’ll be able to go lower and slam it hahah
@@RatchetWrenches yehhh I’d suggest a little fender roll to! Since you are rubbing!
Are these 17s or 18s, I just installed them in mine with 18 but they tuck way more tire than this in the back? Jw I am maxed out in the rear
These are 18s!

Thanks!

On the front coil over to you spin threads higher to go lower in height ? Or opposite ?
