Phenomenal job on the explanation. I was able to import the maps into map editor and overlay the images as described. This is my first 1:1 attempt and I am fired up.

Yeah a map from end to end is about 18 kilometers or 11 miles. You can build big cities in seperate games, taking 18km maps. An idea I have had before. Take care.
I found some super spicy information and I felt like this would be the best place to share. In the map generator, there is a default minimum of around 17km2. You can lower this to 6,304km2 without any problems, but not any lower. Great for if you want to clone a tiny town.
How do I set the water level for an area that's nearly at or below sea level irl (Richmond, BC, Canada)? The slightest touch to sea level either is waterless or totally floods the city area lol

I have never heard of this, did you use 81 tiles mod? Or did you zone outside of the starting square? Try 81 tiles mod so your zoned housing will come in. I have a few videos on 81 tiles mod. OB

Hi the heightmap is just to make the elevation hights of your map. It isnt supposed to be high rez. Is your map OK? Later on in my videos I give another guide to this, it may help. OB

Yeah i know its supposed be low res and some heightmaps i take are exactly like they should be but others are half ok and half really pixelated so when you do add to the game, instead of a hill you end up with stairs basically. Was just wondering if its smth i can fix or its just a glitch in the actual world map. For ex. tried to get the map of a town in sweden (hagfors). the actual town area is pixelated but if i move the grid jsut south of it i get a normal heightmap as it should be. hey i have a problem because my map images are very poor quality for some reason and the whole street has like only 2 pixels and its really hard to get something done and you have perfect quality images and i did everything exacly like you and i dont know whats wrong
Inside the ImageMap website, you might want to click the blue Auto button at the bottom right, its in the window where you input the Longitude and Lattitude. OB

Hi Gremlin, I don't know what your talking about. You mean Cities Skylines? You might have to create the folder for the files. Its in the video but goes by quickly.

You have to stretch your roads from outside the map onto the map until you see a green arrow. I assume you are in the Map Editor. Glad you got your overlay maps!
I followed all the steps, but I didn't have an Addons folder, even with hidden folder shown. So I made a new folder, named it Addons, then did the same with the others until I got the path where your heightmap was saved. Got ingame, didn't see my heightmap in the import menu.
I think that the website produces a lower resolution. I will be doing a guide on higher resolution in my new series coming up soon. In the meantime open the image in a graphic editor like gimp and replace it. Use transparency to align the new image exactly. That is the way I plan on doing it. Take care!

Are you using the heightmap.skydark.pl/ website, if so click Download PNG Heightmap ICON then check your downloads folder. If you have a mac, dont know what could be wrong, maybe a browser issue. OB
I cant find the Keysettings... They are just the normal Keysettings, not the mod settings. I pasted both maps in the correct folder... It is the first mod I installed. Pls help

I tried to do Makarska riviera, But the place is too high and so the terrain is only 57% of reality. (maximum Height scale 57%) :( Is there is something mod that can increase the height limit? (skybox) Please help me!
The game has a height limitation, it is all that fits into the Skybox of CS1, I think CS2 will remove the limit but who knows if we will have the mod to make a real map. OB
When you have MS Explorer, (files) open, there will be a path in the browser bar, and your user name will be different. C:\Users\what ever your user name is. OB

I haven't been able to get one from the website. I think you have to make it with your own graphic editor. I have not done it yet but will in my next series coming up in a few days. I think you need to get high res images from other websites and lay it over your current graphic, i.e. line it up with transparency and then use the new image.

I was going to use this site as the images are supposedly free earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ and tried it. Once I got the image over my satellite image the skydark created, it did not look much more realistic, well not enough to paste images for three hours.

There is a second part to the video, you have to create the folder. Your heightmap gets downloaded to downloads folder and you have to put it in the new folder you created. Part 1 and 2 have details. OB!

.... It doesn't work with an existing map in the map editor. How frustrating. I finally managed to get it to load by creating a new map in the map editor. Edit: Correction. The original PNG file didn't work for me, but I did manually create it... Could be why. I had to reload CS and it's working fine.
So, at the moment, rotating the images isn't working, but I can cycle through them. It is displaying the satellite image upside down... I wonder if center of gravity south side has something to do with it. I'm going to regenerate the photo
Once you load it into a map it seems to stay in cache, and I have thought about a higher res map but I think it would have to be made manually, the website puts out what it puts out.
@@oldbore ohh, the cache comment makes sense. I'll have to pay attention as to whether it loads differently upon a restart. I was afraid of that, I wish we could pay the website maker for upgraded res. downloads. :/ I was looking around for similar services but everything has some degree of manual placement which means it won't be accurately scaled. Additionally, high-res photos are very expensive apparently and may even require splicing together sorta like was Google does, even for an 18km range
High Alex, the map size needs to be at 17.28. The height scale is the height of the mountains and is 100% true if your size is 17.28. You can bump up the scale to 150 or 200 if the mountains arent high enough for you. Take care.

Try Unsubscribing and resubscribing to the Image Overlay 2, also try that from the Steam app, not the website. I find that the website sometimes does not subscribe me. You might also try to subscribe to Compatibility Report v2.0.6 steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2881031511 and see what message it gives you. If you get it to work, once in game, you will need to wait for the overlayed images to load. I always have to press Shift+Enter twice and Shift+R twice to see the second image. Let me know what happens!
The game crashed. The crash report folder named "2022-10-033758" next to game executable. It would be great if you d send it to the developer of the dame!
You might need to update all your mods to the new Plazas DLC versions. And your PC might be slow. I do realize that I have a powerful pc. Making maps isn't for everyone. Let me know what mods you have.

Your images you download from heightmap.skydark.pl/ should be 1081x1081 and should fit perfectly. Did you make a map size of 17.28?

I wouldn't do this, I would raise the elevation scale, you won't know that you are above sea level building a city.

It goes in a specific folder. You might have to create this folder.

I think by raising the height of the landmass. You only need it deep enough for ships to travel. OB

The rivers and lakes are too small and thin, more than two times smaller than in the streetmap
You will have to make them bigger and deeper with terrain tools. OB

On the higehtmap site, make sure your percentage is at 100% after clicking the Auto button. Let me know if this helps.

Click on the red Chirper in the Map Editor and see if you have the top three fulfilled. Also set a starting square.

How does one generate a higher resolution image than the default? It's way too grainy to be usable zoomed in for the satellite image
I haven't been able to get one from the website. I think you have to make it with your own graphic editor. I have not done it yet but will in my next series coming up in a few days. I think you need to get high res images from other websites and lay it over your current graphic, i.e. line it up with transparency and then use the new image.

I was going to use this site as the images are supposedly free earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ and tried it. Once I got the image over my satellite image the skydark created, it did not look much more realistic, well not enough to paste images for three hours.

There is a second part to the video, you have to create the folder. Your heightmap gets downloaded to downloads folder and you have to put it in the new folder you created. Part 1 and 2 have details. OB!

.... It doesn't work with an existing map in the map editor. How frustrating. I finally managed to get it to load by creating a new map in the map editor.
Edit: Correction. The original PNG file didn't work for me, but I did manually create it... Could be why. I had to reload CS and it's working fine.
So, at the moment, rotating the images isn't working, but I can cycle through them. It is displaying the satellite image upside down... I wonder if center of gravity south side has something to do with it. I'm going to regenerate the photo

Once you load it into a map it seems to stay in cache, and I have thought about a higher res map but I think it would have to be made manually, the website puts out what it puts out.
@@oldbore ohh, the cache comment makes sense. I'll have to pay attention as to whether it loads differently upon a restart. I was afraid of that, I wish we could pay the website maker for upgraded res. downloads. :/ I was looking around for similar services but everything has some degree of manual placement which means it won't be accurately scaled. Additionally, high-res photos are very expensive apparently and may even require splicing together sorta like was Google does, even for an 18km range
Is the height scale at 100% accurate to what it is in real life?
High Alex, the map size needs to be at 17.28. The height scale is the height of the mountains and is 100% true if your size is 17.28. You can bump up the scale to 150 or 200 if the mountains arent high enough for you. Take care.

Try Unsubscribing and resubscribing to the Image Overlay 2, also try that from the Steam app, not the website. I find that the website sometimes does not subscribe me.
You might also try to subscribe to Compatibility Report v2.0.6 steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2881031511
and see what message it gives you.
If you get it to work, once in game, you will need to wait for the overlayed images to load. I always have to press Shift+Enter twice and Shift+R twice to see the second image.

The game crashed. The crash report folder named "2022-10-033758" next to game executable. It would be great if you d send it to the developer of the dame!
You might need to update all your mods to the new Plazas DLC versions. And your PC might be slow. I do realize that I have a powerful pc. Making maps isn't for everyone. Let me know what mods you have.
I'm getting it gradually. Lots of trial and error. I've already made a map and overlaid the image with the roads for reference.
Now I don't know how to make the inbound and outbound road connection.
You might have to try a mod called Unlimited Outside connections if you are in game.
