I have a Dogo and he’s the biggest lover. He’s super smart and actually behaves very well. His temperament does vary as far as who he’s dealing with because my husband and boys do love to play rough with him, but he easily goes back into docile mode on command. He does not play rough with me or ever get out of line in any sense because he knows the difference in our personalities and demeanor with him. This video is actually sad. They’re a beautiful breed and it really is in how you raise them.

    • @xperiencesaecm

I 100% agree with this comment. Dogos are probably one of the most intellectual, loving, and genuine heart breeds, but also can have a working brain and need a job. Very athletic and agile. With a natural protective side.
You just have to be the pack leader and make sure they have adequate space and time to play. Dogos love to play rough, you have to make sure they get their energy out.
If you don’t have time to exercise and play with your pup, this is not the breed for you.
They are also extremely in tune and emotional, so handling should be calm and confirm trust, tone of voice goes along way. Like you said above. They know the energy difference and who likes to play or engage with them in a certain way.
There are a lot of falsehoods in this video. The Cordoba fighting dog is the base bloodline, which yes, that dog was bred for dog fights. The Dogo Argentino was bred to be able to hunt in a pack. And defend families against Boar and puma.
And often fixed males get along great. It’s the females that tend to have a dominant personality.
Many households I know have a male and female and do great. As well as mine .
Much love for the Dogo. ❤🐶

definitely not even a question of raise, but more of how people tend to see mastiff breeds, because literally any dog no matter if it’s small or big can have the description from the video. It’s just a question of how much time you’ll give to the dog and how you’ll treat it, because l can literally see most chihuahuas or poodle be described like that and it’s actually normal if people treat them like toys

Dogos were bred to be pack hunters and good family dogs. Creator of the breed purposefully chose to remove the fighting dog tendencies from the Fighting dog of cordoba used in creating the breed. They are not supposed to be aggressive to other dogs (meant to be pack hunters) or humans (bred to be family dog).
However, dogos are very independent and stubborn, their prey drive/ hunt is extremely strong and it takes a consistent, level headed owner and lifelong patience and commitment to always train them. If you give them an inch, just once, they will take a mile and completely forget about you.
I recommend every dogo owner should be required to undergo extensive screening by breeders and must be required to attend professional dog training. Prong collar and e collar training is a must.

I had 1. Told me it was a pit. 1 year later he was a giant muscular everybody calld the beast. My mom fed him hamburgers. Cooked. She loved him. I let him loose in the park and he showed me he could hurt me in 20 seconds. The trick is. They protect who they live with. When they get aggressive. Act as if ur injured or someone is attacking from somewhere. Theyll go from dominate to protective. Never try to be dominite over ur dogooo. Ur not a dog. Let them win the dominite match. Then show intelligence. They have a cant think mode once aggressive adrenaline works in them. It takes 7 seconds to get them out of it. Spin them. Turn them. Circles. Never had 1 problem. Only issue is he only respected me. I left for college. Came back and he went crazyyyy happy. Immediately knew a little 1 year old baby was my child and played with my kid. I got pictures of my baby riding the beast like a horse. He knew how to open the basement door. We locked it from outside. I got in a argument outside and he jumped out the window. Closed window. Broke thru and didnt bote anyone just stood in front of me until everybody backed away.

My Dogo, Opie, is a 21 month old rescue from a POS backyard breeder who dumped the entire litter, with parvo, in a box to die. He lost two siblings, but he and 2 sisters persevered after spending days at the vet office. Opie is sweet, gentle, funny, intelligent, and very calm for the bred. He is protective but clearly has some PTSD, for lack of a better term, from his rough start. I have had him since he was 3 months, and he is great with our other 2 dogs, a male Great Dane/GSD mix and an American Bully/APBT female mix. He is powerful and very stubborn, but he is a loving, fantastic family dog. Anyone interested in the breed should certainly prepare for a large, very powerful, high-energy, strong minded dog, but with work, they are phenomenal. Unfortunately, he has hip dysplasia and will be undergoing a total hip replacement in a couple months. His prognosis is very good. At 98lbs this was the only viable option. This is obviously due to irresponsible and poor breeding from the POS who bred him, but regardless, he is an exceptional being, and I am so fortunate to have adopted him. He will get the best care and have the best life I can give him. ❤️
Are they for everyone? No. Are they worth the effort if you are experienced with powerful, headstrong breeds? 100%

From a general stand point he is correct. There are tons of exceptions to all breeds when genetics and training is on point. This doesn't mean new dog owners should get one. It is a serious dog the size of a corso with the drive of a pit. It is also not the most stable breed as it is a relatively new breed, like the Corso, although the latter is debatable. If I remember correctly, it is primarily a hog hunting dog that has an extinct spanish fighting dog in its genetics.

These are strictly bred for hog hunting. They are bred to work in a pack of dogs. They also are very protective and are good home protectors and will defend their family against any threat. Look up the story about a famous Dog named Morocho.
Some of the foundation breeds were used for dogfighting like the English Bull Terrier, but Dogo's were never bred or used for dogfighting. They are strictly used for hunting and holding prey.

Their biggest "gene" comes from extinct Cordoba fighting dog. Regardless if they are breed for hunting, they have strong gene in them for fighting other dogs. They are good in packs in which they where rised, but will not be so friendly towards other dogs, especially other males of also dominant breeds.

Know they use them because there good at it, but orgininal there where bred for hunting big game and to catch them like cougar and wild boar. Also this dogs can by trained to accep other dogs because they use most of the time 2 dogs or more to hunt big game. The cordoba fighting dog is in dna of dogo argentino, and that dogbreed whas fighting breed. Its al how much train you're dog and how much time you spend in you're dog. Dogo argentino's can by stuborn but they wil die for you. There verry calm with kids and family members. This dogbreeds are domininant but when they accep you to by the bose than this is for life. I have owned 3 dogo's. My male dogo would not start a fight but when its on than its on. This dogs can go from 0 to 100 in 1 second and thats why you alwaij's neet to by on guard. Problem with most human who by this dogs think they are strong and alpaha male and its most of the time oppesite🤷‍♀️. But this is not only for dogo argentino's. - 3 reasons why you should own a Dogo Argentino:🇦🇷
    1. They are very loyal to their owners and are suitable as guard dogs as well as families. You can consider the example of fighting a puma with risking his life to save his owner's daughters. 👐
    2. They are fearless and very patient. They know when to keep calm and when to attack.🤜🤛
    3. If you are looking for an underweight, strong, clean and beautiful dog who drool less compare to other mastiff dog breeds & has a long healthy lifespan (around 15 years). Then Dogo Argentino is for you.💝

You are not completely correct. Dogo's are NOT bred to fight. They are bred to HUNT. Big difference. When socialized properly, they CAN be around other dogs. Yes, its a power breed so you have to do your homework and even then the Dogo is not for everyone but in the right hands it's one of the best breeds to have. 🐾

    • @noahhederman341
      @noahhederman341 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@knnthlane the fighting dog of Cordoba was one of the 14 original dog breeds used in creating the dogo argentino in the 1920's. That aggressive breed is a small percentage of what makes up dogos. Bottom line, a well trained, properly raised and ethically bred dogo argentino is no more aggressive than a cane corso or presa. Higher prey drive tho.

Love my dogo but he is hard to walk around the neighborhood..he does not like to be barked at. Other than that he’s great. Big baby at home with us we also have another English/Frenchie alpha male and a female boxer here with him 24/7. They get along great but he has been with them since he was 9 weeks so probably the only reason why. I have had to check him a few times with my other male but he knows his place now and they’re super close.

That doesn't mean the person who ;anned them is intelligent. There are many places that ban Pitbulls. Remember..stupid people have stupid actions. You can't judge an entire breed from a few mishaps. That's like saying Brahman cattle are going to be banned because they have mauled people..while that is true, my daddy raised them my entire life, and we never had an aggressive one. This was on a cattle ranch.

I'm a Mailman was delivering some Express Mail one day all over the city.
Got to a house never been too before had a long drive fence and was wooded. I was looking and listing for dogs nothing.
Got out of the truck took a few steps and a Dogo Argentina magically appeared right in front of me stopping me in my tracks.
I froze and we where both sizing each other up deciding weather or not I'd become a new chew toy, his best bud or somewhere in between. l
think both of us where deciding somewhere in between when the owner came out saw I was the Mailman and was welcoming to me. The dog read off of his voice and body language and instantly put on that I'm friendly let's play look on his face.
I welcomed the dog and patted my chest he put his paws on my shoulders and promptly washed my face.
Beutiful well trained dog but that dam thing was scary stealthy lol.
