    EDIT: UPDATE VIDEO ON MY CHANNEL, GO WATCH IT
    FAQ
    Q: how do I get all the pieces
    A: here is a pieces list, you can buy the entire cube for quite a cheap price. enjoy!
    rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-89284/puzzLEGO/lego-rubiks-cube-working/#details
    new edit: unfortunately my build got removed, i appealed so it will hopefully be there soon
    just go to 'buy parts' to choose how you want to buy it, I'd recommend bricklink
    Q: can you put it on lego ideas?
    A: if I can improve the design enough so it's reliable I will
    Q: when you scramble it by rearranging the pieces, isn't there a chance it won't be solvable
    A: yes, I realised this while editing. there's only 1/12 chance
    Q: can't you use 2x2 round plates instead of square ones?
    A: the circles make it too loose, I've tried this. I have an idea about how to improve that i'll show you if I make another video about this
    Q: is someone knocking on my door at 4:03?
    A: no, it's just a realistic sound effect, sorry for that

    When you "scrambled" it by taking it apart and putting it together randomly, there's a good chance it wasn't solvable due to parity. There's edge parity and corner parity. You have to swap corners in cycles of 3 assuming no edges are swapped, you have to swap edges in pairs of 2 and cannot flip just 1 edge. All corners must be turned in sets of 3 (all clockwise or all counterclockwise) as well. Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

    So, I think I understand the issue. The core isn't as found as it should be, so considering a quality of typical Rubik cubes design, you must come up with two improvements: one, make the mechanism more circular. Two, make it springy. Typical speed cubes are loose but springy, so if you can find some perfectly sized springs it will allow for some play. Obviously corner cutting is out of the question but something to make it looser.

    • @puzzLEGO
      @puzzLEGO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      that was a bit hard to follow, but I think that's right. when I try to turn it, sometimes pieces will jut out a bit, so either I need to make sure all the pieces line up when not turned (magnets) or I stop the jutting pieces from prohibiting turning (curved corners on the 2x2 plates)

    • @TechSupportDave
      @TechSupportDave 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@puzzLEGO The magnets may be another challenge because with such precise turns needed (due to the pieces not being ROUNDED), the magnets would have to be pretty strong, not only to make the cube easier to turn but also to compensate for the (potential) plastic thickness, as I am not sure if you would need to make any changes to the piece design to account for the space necessary to MOUNT the magnets into the cube pieces.
      In standard speedcubes, the gap between all magnets is usually less than 0.15mm of plastic, this is so that SMALLER (standard) cube magnets work normally.
      However, with LEGOs, technically there doesn't need to even be a gap. It would be pointless trying to make the magnets "embedded" inside of the cube pieces, as that would likely only pose additional challenges. So "mounting" the magnets to "indents" in the sides of the cube pieces may be easier, depending on whether you would want to use GLUE or not to achieve this.
      ---
      However, I am only speculating, and it is unclear as to what exactly you are against doing. For example, implementing a CLICKING MECHANISM, instead of magnets, would likely require unorthodox lego-building methods. At the least, moving parts. At most, a bunch of metal beads and tiny springs with drilled holes to house the system.

    • @puzzLEGO
      @puzzLEGO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@TechSupportDave yeah magnets are a last resort. they don't need to be too strong anyway. basically I just need to allow a bit of corner cutting

      Definitely, lego isn't just scale models that work to a fashion. Mechanical science should be a big proponent of their model making. Lego should do the whole Rubiks range of puzzles, and other puzzles too like the sliding puzzle with 15 pieces in a 4 X 4 pattern.

    Why don’t you try using circular colored plates instead of square? You’d have to make the plates under neath circles as well but hey, no corners for the pieces to catch each other on!!!

    • @puzzLEGO

    • @Danicker
      @Danicker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Looking at the design there are a lot of places where curved edges would not be possible. Also, even if you could make it all with circles it might not be any better, it would probably be too sloppy when turning. The most practical option if you really wanted to improve the turning would be to sand a small curve on each of the corners

    • @geoffdavids7647
      @geoffdavids7647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    try using 3x3 plate pieces for each piece of the cube. so you would end up with a 9x9 on each face of the cub, but individually having 9 tiles on each side that is a 3x3. This I think would give you more space to work with a more circular and flowing design to actually have a better locking mechanism and smoother turning. or you could go even larger, but each time its larger the more ridiculous the size. but i think this is incredible
