You can hardly say he never had any competition he's played some truly world class players during his career who were equal to him . The problem is the better the opponent plays against him he seems to be able to raise his game just a tad higher . He openly said he thrives on players pushing him

No bristow then no taylor i think the game would be absolute nothing without them 2 thats a fact

you are absolutely wrong. Although Taylor is gone, the class is higher than anytime. Averages over hundred are now played even from the 50th place of the world.

@Garg 28 Thats not true. Take the World Matchplay as an example: According to Wikipedia, only 33 people in the history of the event managed to average 100 in one game. Quote: "An average over 100 in a match in the PDC World Matchplay has been achieved 142 times, of which Phil Taylor is responsible for 62." A player ranked 50 would probably average below 90 on an average day.
Nevertheless, the standard has increased for several reasons. E.g., back in the 90's, the players often did not play a professional match for months, nowadays they have tournaments every week. Moreover, there are far more professionals today as the price money has increased.
Without Taylor and Bristow, darts would not be where it is today - they made modern darts.

Let's just add a little sense here. When PT first got involved with Bristow, Bristow had Dartitis, but big time.
The one and only reason Bristow took Tayor under his wing was because Eric saw that missing ingredient in Taylor's throw that had gone walkabout from his own throw.
He couldn't identify it, but he could discern it!
His one and only reason for keeping Mr Taylor around was his forlong hope of determining that elusive factor.
If Eric hadn't contracted Dartitis there would have been no Taylor.
Oh by the way Dartitis is a big part of the interviewers life, FACT!

I agree, on darts today, where there is no respect for the game.
Same with all sports, where there is so much money involved, none of the players give a damn, about the socalled unwritten rules of what sports used to be.
So many sports are now kill or be killed, and there is no respect for sporting wins, just for the sake of reaching the best and achieving that, in a sporting way. Its all about money, and how much they can get out of it, and so what about any sort of unwritten rules.
All sports are like this now.
There certainly is not the magnetism in darts today, there was 30 years ago, when phil taylor started, and there was real characters. Generally speaking players back then would be playing drunk, as they drank so many pints before coming on stage and playing.
Not like that now, and never will be again.
