- Phil Taylor opens up about hip surgery and his setback but it's a relief that his competitive career is coming to an end at the end of the year
"In a way it is, yeah. I'll be honest with you, right to the point, yeah it is. You know, I'll miss it, don't get me wrong. I couldn't, I couldn't carry on anymore, you know what I mean? It was too hard for me. So, yeah, it breaks your heart, don't get me wrong, but it's time."

Even away on holiday he was on the practice board. Jeez!
Phil's drive and determination to win and stay on top is legendary.
By far the greatest dart player ever. Happy retirement
Having retired at age 53, I am now in my early 60s. Many pushed back against me, unable to understand the idea of not working if it's not necessary. I perceived phases in my life. In my latter years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses," even if I worked very hard to obtain what I have now. For me, after retiring, I departed the nation and now reside in Latin America. It made me appreciate my new surroundings while removing myself from all the bad things that were going on in America. Nobody I've met regrets retiring, as far as I know.
Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.
It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than a million dollars by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.
I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.
I definitely share your sentiment about these firms. Finding financial advisors like *Layan Talia Chokr* who can assist you shape your portfolio would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.
Thank you for this Pointer. It was easy to find your handler, She seems very proficient and flexible. I booked a call session with her.
Greatest dart player enjoy your retirement 😊
One of Britain's greatest ever champions. Best Dart player ever. Enjoy your retirement Phil.
Crazy how he's never even received an MBE. Nobody will ever get near his records.
There's a reason behind it.
Ask him what he gets up to in his caravan and you’ll understand why he doesn’t have an MBE. He’s. A great champion but a horrid human.
@@DJMorley18 never hard this, how do i find out more
@@SeKlasaChapo oh boy if only you knew. He was due an MBE in 2001 and was on a brink of getting one but the royals did some digging and found out about the camper van "incident" and that was that for our mate Phil...
Phil is the reason why i started watching Darts, Im always thankful for that
Absolute legend
Great interview PB. Nice to see PT relaxed and looking forward to some rest but still being involved. PT still the GOAT!
Cheers mate
Not 'alf! ♥
Last of the greats era . .- a class act .... cheers Phil.
Barneveld is still going, Steve Beaton
He's a lot of things but a class act isn't one of them.

Hope you Get well & fighting fit soon Phil. You’ve earned your pipe and slippers enjoy retirement and enjoy the rest of the beautiful life you’ve created for yourself and family. Many a good memories watching you dominate! All the best Phil “the power” Taylor ❤
Rest, heal and enjoy your retirement God knows you've earned it Sir!!!
Phil you don't owe us a thing you've been the most consistent dart player ever and took darts to a new level. Thanks for everything and now its time for you to look after yourself. God bless and thanks for all the great memories
His record will never be beaten in my time.
I loved watching the power...what a fantastic dart player.
and never ever got sports personality award in his life.
But 16 world titles is priceless.
Take care phil old pal.
And thanks for the memories 👍
I think luke littler will beat his record
Greatest to ever throw a dart.
Greatest who ever will.
His achievments will never be beaten.
No one has or will come close
He wouldn't dominate in today's era. It's like Hendry in the 90s in snooker, there wasn't as many top players around...
@@donovanpain83yes he would. Your recency bias is Clouding your judgment. He would dominate just like he did in his day
LITTLER WILL SMASH IT
@@Blitzmcfc0 chance. Littler has already beaten his averages quite easily at 17. He simply wouldn’t compete today. Would do well for sure but nowhere close to the same number of titles.
@@ashleigh3021imagine doubting Phil Taylor… he was winning even when way out of his prime, against players far younger than him. Like him or not, he’s the greatest darts player who’s ever lived.
phil taylor the all time great met him 3 year ago ... the darts legend big up phil you was the best and still is
Goat 🐐
The king of kings Phil the power Taylor..💯🇬🇧🇯🇲👍
Thanks!
Two great Phil’s having a chat…😀👏👍🏿👍🏿

Never heard of catch 29, only catch 22 before. Phil was the GOAT and best wishes to him
Phil Taylor I grew up watching him play darts I am very proud of all the things he has achieved yes I have massive respect for Phil Taylor I wish Phil Taylor and all his friends and family and all of his fans and people who have supported Phil Taylor in his career all the very best Thanks Phil for all your exciting dart matches you have given us all from Ben golby 👌 👍
Phil you deserve all good ❤ good luck 🙏💪 you are strong.
Legend ❤
"Should I do this? Should I do that? Should I buy a villa?“ Classic Phil
Some people don't know when it's time and stay too long Phil knows and bowed out gracefully
Well done that man ! i am right now recovering from a full hip replacement.
A tape measure and some masking tape.
First thing in the suitcase for holdays.
Absolutely fantastic player.
Took dart throwing to a level that will maybe never be matched.
True gentleman on and off the hockey❤
GENIUS of the game.
Good luck to you Phil
Your a good man
I hope this young lad little coming up is half as good as you 🎉
The power!!
Is off.
Phil taylor the best to ever do it!! He was throwing unbelievable darts when not under pressure because he was that good!! How good would he have been if he was pushed??? When you think darts you think Taylor!! That says everything!!
The greatest there ever was and ever will be..
The GOAT. Never to be matched
All his opponents were weak for most of his career. Heck, they were smoking and drinking on stage in the early years.... go figure.
@P.Mantis-nw3xi was you even watching back then? The averages he was throwing, barely any player nowadays could compete with him.
Even prime Barneveld would destroy most of the circuit now. Its a pity Barneys prime was cut short due to diabetes and poor eyesight
@@P.Mantis-nw3xiThey really weren’t when when did you start watching darts? The boards were thinner and he averaged 113 in the euro champs over a whole tournament without a doubt the goat not even close or debatable
Great interview
Stay strong Phil,
Once the hip goes the back is next,
A lot of pain ahead,
Seen the old man go through it all, the lifestyle and belly done the damage,
Will never be anyone even close to him
Real cheerful bloke you are
The Greatest of all time... says it as it is! Happy retirement Phil 👋👋👋
Phil Taylor is the GOAT
I hate hearing him talk so negatively about himself
Same as Phil here minds perfect its the body that doesnt work! Im 50 and my lower back is done, my hip, get sciatica in leg, shoulder pain, elbow pain etc etc.. Cant walk any distance. All from having a very active childhood and lifting weights from age 14, suffice to say i rely on mobility payments to live. Very hard living with so much pain so feel for Phil.
Can’t you get joints repaired/replaced?
@@fanfeck2844Of course but you have years of them deteriorating before reaching that point don’t you
Legend.
Speedy recovery Phil..
Nobody will ever achieve what Phil has,I have an idea as to what your going through as my wife has struggled for 2 years after breaking both hips, all the best for the future
Legend. I wear your Target darts shirt with pride when playing at my club.
The greatest phil
Would be great to see Phil on tv talking about darts on commentary. He has so much offer the audience...so much experience and knowledge..
I can’t see him being taken on for reasons we all know.
Watched taylor from the early days.
Great matches with him with the likes of dennis preistley and raymond van barneveld etc.
One of the best sportsmen of all time.
Without Eric Bristow no Phil Taylor.
Catch 22...Phil 😊
9, Double 10
I assumed he deliberately said a number other than 22 to really try to get across how difficult it had been
Great stuff Phil. Always THE GOAT. 👍👍
The goat
I think he never be beat he was the best and still the one to beat very nice man
Legend , playing him in a couple of weeks time and I’m bricking it 😂
How did you get on? Hope you enjoyed the experience
@ it was cancelled a week or so beforehand , gutted
@@johnny1759 ahh that's a shame pal
For sure the standards Phil reached and the standards he would like to still be able to play at are way beyond most people within darts. The problem with many injuries with age is they take longer to improve, but the improvement would never be enough to get back to the highest standards. Very sad to see and I’m sure Phil was in some extreme pain, I watched the suffering my own mother had and it’s awful. All the very best to Phil. Fantastic interview Phill 👍🏻🎯
Theres only one Phil Taylor👍
Me and my wife were having a meal in the Kismet in Burslem, Phil walked in with his mate and everyone wanted to speak and asking him for autographs I just ignored him and enjoyed my curry, Not been disrespectful I just felt like Phil wanted the same and just enjoy his food in peace. Thanks for the entertainment Phil a great dart player enjoy your retirement.
The 🐐
Real reality interview
one of the great sports man.
The goat 🐐
Catch 29?! I guess you can’t check that out with one dart 🤣
In terms of success it will be interesting to see how Taylors practice mentality compares to Littler who says he plays often only 20 minutes in a day.
Catch 29 is a new one on me. I always thought it was double 11 :)
Just the two mentions of Robbie Williams in this interview.
Good to see and hear from Phil, however, the interviewer asked the basically the same questions in 3 or 4 different ways.
Awesome player and probably the toughest mental strength of any player in history. Enjoy retirement phil you owe the game nothing. Waiting on a knee replacement for a few years and having played sport at a decent level
I also called it a day. I set high standards for myself and simply can’t play at that level anymore. Playing for fun isn’t in my dna. Take a bow phil. Miss you darts hasn’t been the same since.
Get well soon.
Definitely
Great player be hard to replicate his achievements
Catch 29? WTF!?!?! 😂😂
Now that's praise an half for LL from the great, PT
I can sympathise, I've had sciatica most of the year.
THE WAY TAYLOR STAYED AT THE TOP IF SOMEONE BEAT HIM ,HE PRACTISED EVEN MORE THEN THRASHED PLAYER WHO BEAT HIM
Brilliant
Hope he still does some exhibitions! Met him once and he was so lovely. Never bought me a pint like.. But lovely all the same😃
Edit:
Nearly 40 years stood on one leg!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣Love it!!
You should have bought HIM a pint.
This interview really resonates with me as my father has gone through the same ordeal with his hip and chronic pain. Everything Phil says is exactly what my father experienced.
Best of luck to Phil, a top bloke and undoubtedly the greatest darts player of all time.
💙💙
How is it heart breaking the guy worked hard at his profession but he was not stuck to an inconvenient work schedule
He was never told off for being late to arrive or told to stay after hours
Yes he was brilliant and rewarded very well
Sadness comes when you have to be at your work place at a certain time and stay till the end and you could be the greatest at your job but you don't get extra cash or a trophy 😢

Phil is finished. Greatest ever. But he's finished now
I think you meant catch 22 Phil 😊
Not from fakes it doesn’t.
a Great player ..from the old days when men were men ..not like today . . . .! + RIP Sid . . . .
Old days to you boy ^ ..I recall long before his days at top with Eric Bristow , John Lowe , Mike Gregory , Leighton Rees and Jocky Wilson when boards had fatter rounded wiring which Phil mentioned and staples and were many bounce outs them days i so recall . As for Sid i couldnt be done with his ramblings and that voice , but all to their own .
@@patsanters2741 sid was the voice of darts and is solely responsible for darts being televised ....-Jockey wilson was the most naturally gifted player there has ever been -phil and eric both agreed ..-young ones who disrespect BDO are urinating on the memory of great men and a once great nation .
Best ever without a doubt, and a loss to the game - always felt he was a bit of a nasty individual on the oche, but some players don't progress beyond 'their level' because they lack that nastiness.
Littler has time on his side but will he have motivation to stay at the top Fact this years averages were down on previous PDC world championships
Catch 29 😂
Beat me to it.
Have one last crack at the Seniors World Championship in early 2025 and try to go out with a bang
Darts was boring when this man was at the top of his game,he was just so far ahead of the rest.
I would argue and say its become boring now .. .especially with the demise of Sids commentary ..it was an integral part of the game . .
@alanhargreaves-thevoiceofr2361 I liked Waddell as a person but hated him commenting,he really just talked in riddles,to me anyway,I actually like the darts a lot more now we don't know the winner of every tournament,I hope Littler doesn't become the new Taylor.
@@alanhargreaves-thevoiceofr2361 I like some i knew just couldnt be done with his silly accent and his ramblings which made no sense .
Now Michael MVG needs to retire he 35 and half lukes again ❤
His pride could not handle MVG outplaying him and then having MVG physically celebrating was too much for his gigantic ego. And he knows that’s exactly why he retired. But will never admit it.
Lol he has a very strong head to head record against MvG and won 6 of their last 9 matches including a 16-6 thrashing at the 2017 World Matchplay. He retired because he was old, not because he couldn't handle MvG.
Greatest player ever, but I always found he gave very awkward interviews, going off on tangents and not giving a straight answer.
..but thats beter than a boring robot or automaton like the new breed of player....I just cant get into it any more . . ..
1:22 Catch 22 I guess he means...
