Almost got spring to my eye one day when removing these, be carefull. I found from mine actuators/struts that control cables was broken. Just fixed those ones by soldering the cables back together. Now it works fine. Yellow cable was broken from both sides. Connecting black and red cables to 9v battery you can test if motor is turning then problem is probably on control cables below the protective cable cover 👍
This tutorial and demo just saved me about £600 (that my mechanic wanted to obtain and install a set of electric struts). Instead about £130 off Ebay and my own labour. The only fiddly bits and which the demo didn't show clearly, was the undoing of the electrical connections and the spring clips on the struts themselves. Still, job done and working perfectly. Thanks.

Attention! Damaged motors tend to jump heavily out because of the spring. You should use something that prevents the top from shooting around 😄 (I've used a blanked)
Thanks for the tutorial! It really helped and we successfully replaced both struts on my father's octavia combi 2015. To all who will follow this tutorial and after replacement of struts your trunk will still open only halfway position, there is a fix: you need to manually gently push the trunk to maximum (or desired) position and then hold the interior close trunk button for about 5 seconds until you hear few beeps. I changed the faulty strut,but it still stops when I try to open it immadiately 15cm from the locked position.(just like before strut change) Sometimes it open's correctly all the way up,then I set'd up the height just like you showed on the video,but when I close it then it stop's 15cm to the bottom again. @@360swim 1 week ago I was with this issue at my mechanic,and he was controlled through the oem system the struts,and one strut is working properly with 100capacity but the other problematic was at 15-20%..Then I ordered a part,and replaced.He is having a holiday,so week or two I can't go after him to control through the oem.So then I decided to question you of you have any idea :) now Im not using the trunk because now it's lifting only the good(old) one but the replaced I think isn't functioning at all. We 'll see when my mechanic returns from his holidays. :)

I am not sure exactly what you mean by "colsing-aid", but the symptom is that the tailgate opens just a few centimeters and beeps a few times. Then you have to manually open the tailgate and also close it. On closing, pressing the button to close the door does nothing apart from beeping.
I think, if you go to a pro shop, they will tell you to replace both since it is always to have them working evenly. However, I replaced just the one that was broken and all is still working as expected.
Hi, I have a problem with the lid too. It opens just a few centimeters - one beep - and stops. Then when I push the button again, it fully opens without any other problem. Diagnostic is showing a problem with Hall sensor in motor 1. Do you have any idea which side is motor 1? As far as I know, it should be left side. But I would like to be sure before I buy new strut. Hi, as you said, it looks like one strut has issue. I am not sure which one is motor 1, but you can just disconnect one and see what it does, then disconnect the other, etc. If when you disconnect one, it still works, that is the problematic one. If you disconnect one and it does not work, than it is the other side which is still connected.
How to set the new strut manually to correct length so I can install it? I think mine came packaged in the shortest position? I cannot install it when trunk is closed, can I??
Hello, Dont know for sure, but I quess you just have to attach the wires(of the new strut) to the car. And then press the boot open button? Then the struts would open fully?
Sorry for my late reply. Good question. I disconnected the electricity from one and tried opening the boot. One strut would not do anything and one would at least try to open it, but it would be too weak. What method did you use?
@@360swim thanks for the reply, I noticed when the tailgate was in the open position and tried to close it using the tailgate switch it would almost try and twist to one side before failing to close. The side it was twisting to being the failing motor. Swapped it and so far it it working. At some stage I will replace the other side but the boot opens as it should now anyway.
@@peacockealot that is great that you got it to work. You are correct, it is recommended to change both motors at once, however, I have so far to experience any problems after I changed only one side.

@@tumpelo22I guess, the less noisier side might be the one to change, but it is hard to tell. I'd try playing with it more in terms of not just opening, but also with closing the trunk. Perhaps one is able to close smoother than others. You can also try to give it a little help with your hand when opening to get it over the initial lifting threshold and perhaps then the working motor will pick it up and open.
Besides not fully opening, did you had issues to make it stay closed? My electric struts are done, I already ordered some replacements but my trunk is not fully closed

I think I heard those 3 beeps when it detects an obstacle while opening and closing. Hi, I have the same problem. Do you think I would be able to replace the electric struts with normal struts? My Seat has the same struts. I bought it slightly used but I never liked the electric struts in the first place.

I've bought it from a scrap yard to save some money. So, you can check some local one if they have this part from some wrecked Skoda. Or of course, your local automotive shop should have it, but it will be more expensive. In terms of what I changed, the entire strut with the cables. When you buy the strut, it comes with the cables, so you just unhook the old one from the door and disconnect the wires. Then replace it. Hope it helps. Did you find a place where to buy it?

Hey. I did the same fix but it still wont work. If I only change to the other side, do I somehow have to calibrate the opening of the rear container or reset the error diagnosis?
Is it beeping and not opening or just not fully opening? Perhaps you need to reset the max height of the tailgate by holding the close button for a few seconds.

I have this issue on my car. And I don't know if this is a dumm question. But how do you know if you should replace the right or the left rod?

I'd assume there has to be some release. Maybe it is taped up? Not sure though.

This does look like a problem with the electric strut. Since the door won't open the struts have no power to lift it up.

They changed one struct on my 2016 Octavia on warranty and it "was" $1200.

I heard some1 fixed the struts with WD40, since they were simply goofed up? maybe a first test!

Unfortunately, I don't know. But Seat is made by WV group (same as Skoda), so chances are it is quite similar. Just my guess.
