Coming back to this thread and I have still not had one Ozito battery (I have seven of them) fail in years and years of regular use in two mowers, two chainsaws, a pole saw, telescopic pruner, angle grinder and more. Not one battery issue from Ozito. It's not a problem with batteries generally, its the EGO batteries. Even my Ryobi batteries have never had a problem in five years. Still going well in a lawn mower and line trimmer.

I’ve never had issues with my batteries but agin I don’t run a commercial business. You could possibly be recharging the batteries too often while they are hot. I imagine you have to otherwise you’d have to purchase more batteries to avoid charging hot batteries to keep moving forward with your business.

Mine, too. My two second generation EGO batteries after less than one year, are failing with red light flashing on charger, when in use and also when not in use - periodically. The first generation one (without the flashing usage gauge) is the oldest battery and still runs perfectly. They use different cells in the second gen EGO batteries, this is well known. I've already had one second gen battery replaced last year and two more are now playing up... I have a chainsaw and line trimmer and mower. Its really frustrating...

Apparently the best EGO batteries have Duracell cells inside and the newer ones with the usage gauge flashing light, are Samsung cells inside. The older, Duracell models have no letter 'T' at the end of the model number. My Duracell 5Ah one works great but the two Samsung EGO batteries flash red periodically and won't charge properly or work properly. They can be fully charged when doing this or half full or near empty, its not an overheating when in use issue. The Samsung batteries definitely seem inferior in real-world usage. I've had one replaced under warranty and now two more of the Samsung cell EGO batteries (with the letter 'T' in the model number) are flashing red again. It's not an automated depletion, battery drainage thing, as I have been using them once or twice a week...

Fwiw, I had my original 7.5Ah battery giving me issues occasionally last summer and it has worked great after I cleaned the contacts on the battery (and my mower).
In the last few days, I had that battery show all lights blinking red anytime I tried pressing the button to check its level. On reddit, many people have shared different sequences of holding the button, putting it on the charger, pressing the button, etc to "reset" the battery, but none helped me. What did was dropping the battery onto a rubber mat from about 6" up. No idea why, but many people on Reddit claimed it worked so I gave it a try and immediately afterwards the battery showed full when I checked it. I just edged with it and it gave me no problems at all. Ymmv.

The batteries are rated for and estimated 1000ish charge cycles so if you use these things every day and you're charging 2-3 times a day, that's roughly 66 working weeks. So just over 1 year service on the battery is about expected.
My estimate in your charge rates might not be accurate though.

My new generation EGO batteries with the flashing usage gauge (they use different branded cells than the first gen batteries) have played up after six months to one year of use. I've only used about fifty cycles of my line trimmer, mower and chainsaw but the are just not reliable batteries and don't charge or work well all of the time. I believe most of my battery failures have been from misuse and or over use. Over heating and too wet.
One thing I didn't like about the old batteries is that one couldn't tell how much charge the battery had and when the light turned red it might have discharged too far.
With the new batteries I discharge them to the fifth light then I recharge them.
One of the 10 amp hour batteries may have gotten too wet. It seems to work better now that it has dried out. I don't leave them in the truck bed anymore even if they are covered by a tarp..
Any battery that is not used properly will fail.
The Nissan Leaf is a good example of that. They don't do well in hot climates.
Some of the EGO batteries have turned the light red on the charger and it won't charge until the battery cools. Some of the batteries that failed I believe overheated too many times. Heat and cold can cause lithium battery degradation.
For EVs it is recommended that the battery not be discharged below 20 percent and charged up to only 80 percent to make the battery last longer.
What I couldn't say is why anyone else's battery failed, but these are some things I would consider before blaming the company for making bad batteries.

We're going on three years of use with our EGO mower. I've had to repair the mower itself when the speed control stopped working reliably, that was a simple repair, but now we're having battery problems and we're not sure if it's the battery or the charger. Sometimes the charger lights remain on after removing the battery, and usually that means the battery will die after only a few minutes use (even though the charger indicated a full charge). Weirdly, the charger lights remain on sometimes even after unplugging the unit. Any idea what's up with that ? Anyway, I can get the charger to work again by unplugging it until the charge lights go off, then restarting the unit, but I'm thinking that something is near the end of its lifetime. We have a very large lawn, the mower has been in hard use during the summers here, so I'll admit that it's been used plenty. Btw, I also have to sharpen the blades before every mowing. Is that true for everyone ? Thanks for the video, we're considering a rider and we're asking ourselves the same question about sticking with EGO.

@@QuietLawn I would be cautious here.
A few issues to overcome if repairing:
      (1) dis/reassembly so that it is not compromised structurally (unlikely if housing is ultrasonically welded and/or permanently glued)
      (2) you are comfortable with the liability and repair is financially viable
      (3) the battery cell(s) are the cause and solution to the issue (not the enclosed in epoxy unrepairable BMS circuit board or other peripherals such as your charger or tool)
      (4) having a viable source for matched ego replacement cells (an old battery?) or 3rd party equivalents (unlikely given EGOs have the proprietary phase-change heat absorbing wrapper)
      (5) electrical knowledge to take this on or a trusted 3rd party who does
From the perspective of an electrical engineer w/ favorable odds to tackle this sort of thing, if (1) didn't kill the idea from the start it might be worth considering if enough money was at stake, there was free time to burn, and it would be for personal use. I wouldn't recommend most people mess with these batteries. A LARGE amount of energy is stored in even the smallest EGO batteries and they can easily explode and/or catch fire when things go wrong. It would be terrible if a customer or employee was injured by a battery you repaired.
I've tested a number of competing products and Husqvarna seemed to be the best alternative from a performance and portfolio perspective. I went with EGO because for the price, I could generally buy two or more EGOs for the cost of one Husqvarna. I have concerns like you. Fresh out of the box, two of the five EGO tools I just purchased failed.
It would be great to learn more about this such as if specific tools (particularly the blower or mower given their consumption) are causing it.

I just bought a Greenworks Commercial 25" mower with 4 batteries and I'm looking forward to seeing how they hold up this summer. I had a 7.5 battery stop after a few months. When I pushed the button, three green lights would come on in succession, and then all five of them would turn red. I meant to get a replacement, but life intervened, and two months later I pushed the button again, and it turned green. So I put it in the rapid charger, and it said it was fully charged. It has worked ever since. I am wondering if an "overcharging" issue is making some batteries seem like they are failing. In any case, it is still working, and all the other batteries I have bought are still working (old and new). I have a 5.0 battery that came with my mower about 5 years ago. It won't hold a charge if you store it, but if you use it right after charging...it still works perfectly. (Edit: as suggested below, I almost never let my batteries go to zero. I don't know if that is a factor also.)

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it. SO, if this is the main way you power your hand equipment, it seems like a good idea to keep a very close eye on how many cycles you’re getting out of each battery. And when power drops off, try to estimate how soon you lose 20+% of it. Otherwise, how will you ever know your cost of doing business? Not keeping track of this would be like not keeping gas receipts and just estimating it each month without looking at the cost of a gallon of gas.

However, are you sure that the usage durty cycle hasn't changed in your crew? Then the 5ah failed. Then the replacement 5ah failed within 2 months!! Now just over 14 months use the 7ah has failed. Luckily at the moment am within the warranty period.

Not saying this is user error at all, because it definitely sounds like an issue with their batteries. However, just FYI lithium batteries like to be between 30 to 50% charge for long-term storage in (longer than 30 days). I bought into the Ryobi 40 volt system about two seasons ago. The trimmer and its battery will be starting its third season when spring gets here. I always run the batteries down until the charge gauge shows two of four bars before storage inside the house over winter. Haven't had any battery issues as of yet and thankfully Ryobi has a 3-year battery warranty for home use so I'm covered for a while. But like most manufacturers I think it's only 90 days if used commercially.
I have a 18 volt Hitachi cordless set that is about 10 years old and on the original lithium batteries. I think a lot of the longevity variances are attributed to how each tool manufacturer manages the cells in its pack. For example if they are not allowing enough buffer when the BMS shuts the battery down at a low charge it may be discharging the cells too much and causing premature failure. For example oh, I own a 2019 Nissan Leaf EV. It is the second generation leaf which has a much better battery in management system. The early ones suffered severe battery degradation issues because they did not build in enough buffer. However the second generation like mine, when your charge gauge shows 0% battery it actually has like 5% in the actual pack. And when it shows 100% it is not actually all 100% of the battery's capacity. This way the battery stays within its healthy range and cannot be deeply discharged or overcharged by the driver, causing premature failure of the individual cells.

@@QuietLawn Not sure how many of the 3rd generation EGO batteries you had for your business (the ones with the 5 LED fuel gauge) but they claim to have its own storage management built in. This is from the EGO battery instruction manual:
"NOTICE:This battery pack is equipped with an advanced self-maintenance function to extend the battery life. Depending on the battery charge, it will automatically perform a self-discharge operation after one month of storage. After this self-maintenance, the battery pack will enter sleep mode and maintain 30% of its charge capacity. If stored for a month or longer, fully recharge the battery before the next use." "Every six months of storage, fully charge the Lithium-Ion battery pack."

Ryobi has 40v & 18v Lithium. Both have 18650 cells with a BMS to protect the batteries. The 40v is used in a push mower, weed eater, and something else. The 18v is used in Ryobi tools like drill, pole saw, saws-all.
