This song reminds me of all the friends i have lost from addiction this past year.,and i made it out and survived.it makes me cry how close i was and homeless. Now a year clean and greatful with a apartment.Thank you circa for helping me and to make me remember those last times i had with my friends.
This song reminds me of all my old high school friends Ive lost contact with. My friend Mercedes showed me this band, I still think of her every now and again. She was a very good friend wish her nothing but the best
this might be my favorite song on the album but idk it's really hard to pick one. the production on this is amazing, so crisp. and i'm loving how this album has definite nods to previous albums but i still feel like it has its own character like all the other albums. just another fantastic iteration of circa
Listen to almost all their other stuff, this is unique, chill, beautiful and I simply love it. When that steel drum kicks in, it reminds me of driving next to the beach around the sunset with the one you love.
On the edge I don't know how it began I feel the ghost Of a dozen other men I know the way you want it I know which way you run home I'm on the fence I don't know which way to bend With you And I can't understand How you wait for something you love And I won't take a chance I would rather be on my own Than with you Know the way that you speak to me Like nothing could ever be understood Know the way that you move around Slithering on the ground You shake over and over And in my head You're like a song that I could never identify And all along you play In CONTINUOUS repeat You're like a problem I could never rectify And I can't understand How you wait for something you love And I won't take a chance I would rather be on my own Than with you
True art is in the creation, if you don't fit the vibe of the new music it just means you don't appreciate music as it is, it's not tailor made, that's the beauty of it, it's a journey that the artist creates not a product. Picasso never painted for the people, his non abstract art was equally as beautiful. Circa Survive is endlessly bringing me to new places with their music, not that same old room that many musicians never seem to leave.
This song is beautiful , like gentle rain on a cool day when you look out the window feeling melancholy and alone but connected to the consciousness of the universe at the same time, it’s surreal. Like longing for the misery you’ve felt so far in life because you need it, as much as you want to be happy at the same time but you can’t just be happy, because a little misery is the only thing that makes you feel alive.
Even as you progress as a band, you still just keep me in awe, all the sounds, and all the feels. Seeing you live is just the most amazing thing. Your music is the soundtrack to some of the most important times of my life.
this is what makes circa so great. range. experimentation. After 10 years, you should expect them to mix up the sounds quite a bit. just like all the greats before them did.
So many whiners about how a band isn't how they used to be [insert number here] years ago. I mean, it's kinda ridiculous that you expect a band to stagnate because of your own wish to have a similar album every damn time. I mean, would you want to graduate high school and then go back over and over, or do you have to grow up? I'm assuming most people can answer that question with some sense.
***** Hey, I'm all for criticism. I'm not necessarily speaking about good criticism. It's the mindless spouting of nonsense about an artist that makes it fall short of a legitimate criticism for me. Bands change all the time, and I see the same garbage about how they need to go back to [insert album name here]. But it completely sells the artist short for what they're trying to accomplish. It might not be good. I never said every release is amazing. But to see people say it's complete shit is just a ridiculously extreme opinion without any kind of explanation to explain why. There are a lot of music "critics" out there who just talk out of their asses. You gave me your reasoning for not liking this as much, and it makes a lot of sense. But someone who says, "This is shit! Back to Juturna we go," just isn't doing it for me. There is a world of difference between not liking a direction a band has taken, and completely writing them off and deeming everything else as "terrible" or "shit" music. Blindly following an artist isn't necessarily any better, but sometimes change and growth within a band happens for a reason. For the record, I still don't think there are many bands that sound like Circa Survive out there. But if everyone did what you did, and explained that a certain album felt generic and/or uninspired for varying reasons, then I'd be happy to discuss those criticisms. Unfortunately, my original comment goes out to those who just don't give a damn, and it's clear as day when people don't really care.
Yeah man I hate when people say they don't sound the same. I mean their album sounds different somehow and im not gunna sit here and try and pick apart the album just cause of it
still playing on August 2016 Boi! I'm glad my hb introduced them to me about a year ago. awesome band. great stuff. idk how they're not super famous by now. stupid gov.
Hey everyone fighting in the comments, quiet down and listen to the 2:25 mark and on in this song. Do you understand the beauty? Can you even grasp the talent it takes to make a transition like that?
This song is about his addiction and feeling like a ghost of his former self, but so much that if feels like he's experienced a dozen men's worth of pain, anguish, darkness, etc.
John Paul Bittner Unpopular opinion here, but I didn't like Juturna all that much. Mostly because of Anthony's vocals on that album. I also prefer Circa's progressive/experimental side more than their post-hardcore side.
They did not actually. In fact all of Circa Survive's art including every single, ep, b-side, and lp are done by painter/artist Esao Andrews. He's absolutely incredible.
Something's been missing. Everything after the Appendage ep has seemed dull and hollow for me. I guess a majority of it is nostalgia but I also just plain miss the atmospheric and haunting melodies from Juturna and OLG. This album seems to be taking a step towards those albums with homages to Mandala and other similarities. In the end though, they will always be my favorite band.
To each their own I suppose. They caught a lot of flack for keeping a relatively similar sound for Juturna to On Letting Go. But i still think that was their best work
donnyinlakai561 OLG was a PERFECT sophomore album. That was a true progression from their Juturna sound. People change and tastes change.. not good or bad.. just what it is. I really like this album personally and i hope it sets up a more mellow/psychedelic 6th album now that they got their hard rock out of the way lol Need more songs like Stop the Car/Fever Dreams
Remember when Circa Survive songs weren't just Anthony Green solo songs? I mean this could have easily been on Avalon, not sure why it's on a Circa CD. I used to be the biggest Circa fan out there but they really haven't put out a great CD since On Letting Go. There are a few songs on albums after it that are great, but as far as a whole CD being great On Letting Go was the last one, which wasn't as good as Juturna. Juturna is literally perfection.
john wilkes Harsh. Remember when Anthony Green didn't have the same haircut as every other shitty musician on the planet? Remember when Anthony Green was unique and interesting to listen to?
Jonjey2112 Remeber when I told you to fuck off? Remember when I have never cared what his hair style is? Remember when Anthony used to be on a lot of drugs? Remeber when a new album comes out and you dont act like a complete snob saying it was not as good as blank or blank. Remember when you start all your comments with remember when?
***** Remember when Anthony Green's vocals didn't consist of 'YEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEHHH YEH YEHHHH YEH YEHHHHHH" in extremely hoarse and sharp shitty shit shits?
This song reminds me of all the friends i have lost from addiction this past year.,and i made it out and survived.it makes me cry how close i was and homeless. Now a year clean and greatful with a apartment.Thank you circa for helping me and to make me remember those last times i had with my friends.
The transition around 2:26 is where I lose it. Absolutely beautiful
Quite possibly the most beautiful song ever written
agree
Love the jazzy vibe this song gives picturing anthony in a bar with his band, room filled with smoke and liquor. What a nice vision.
This song reminds me of all my old high school friends Ive lost contact with. My friend Mercedes showed me this band, I still think of her every now and again. She was a very good friend wish her nothing but the best
And in my head
You're like a song that I could never identify
And all along you play
In continuous repeat
You're like a problem I could never rectify.
Another level, so magestic.

I think descensus is the best. It covers so many range of emotions... And then it just ends.
Listen to almost all their other stuff, this is unique, chill, beautiful and I simply love it. When that steel drum kicks in, it reminds me of driving next to the beach around the sunset with the one you love.
On the edge
I don't know how it began
I feel the ghost
Of a dozen other men
I know the way you want it
I know which way you run home
I'm on the fence
I don't know which way to bend
With you
And I can't understand
How you wait for something you love
And I won't take a chance
I would rather be on my own
Than with you
Know the way that you speak to me
Like nothing could ever be understood
Know the way that you move around
Slithering on the ground
You shake over and over
And in my head
You're like a song that I could never identify
And all along you play
In CONTINUOUS repeat
You're like a problem I could never rectify
And I can't understand
How you wait for something you love
And I won't take a chance
I would rather be on my own
Than with you
Joylands thank you for the lyrics
That fifth genre explains a familiar frustrating longing.

Sativa High Yes
agreed :)
+Sativa High well put!!!
This reminds me why I'm alive.
Same feeling over here.
+Matthew Rangus YES
this song is so different from circas other stuff but i friggin love it
LSD and this band is pure bliss.

I am in complete love with this song.
Me too :)
Lonely notes of guitar since 1:26 make me feel out of this world
This song always speaks to me
Even as you progress as a band, you still just keep me in awe, all the sounds, and all the feels. Seeing you live is just the most amazing thing. Your music is the soundtrack to some of the most important times of my life.
2020 and still jamming. This has to be one of my top favorite circa songs ❤️
Love how the snare at the beginning sounds like it's being played with a bare hand, gives it such a different feel
I love the drumming on this song, it's complex enough to keep my attention, but not overbearing
The "steel drum" that comes in at 2:28 means so much to me.
+harry raehausen I think you mean steel guitar ;)
+Jasper Moore It could be a steel shoebox and I'd still love it.
Haha, no doubt circa would find a way to make it sound beautiful.
I love using this music to mod Skyrim, it really helps me concentrate!
I'm doing the same exact thing!
Haha, brother :)
Anthony's vocals are hauntingly beautiful on this one especially 2:31 to the end
this is what makes circa so great. range. experimentation. After 10 years, you should expect them to mix up the sounds
quite a bit. just like all the greats before them did.
Such a FANTASTIC song.
god i love this so much
Such a great song.. I love you Anthony Green, and Band!
this is so lovely i can feel the feelings in this song i love it right in the feels

I actually like all of Circas albums. I see the same Circa pretty much. All a deep vibe going on in there work
See, this is a good conversation about them at least.
I read the first 2 lines of your comment .....+1
Yeah man I hate when people say they don't sound the same. I mean their album sounds different somehow and im not gunna sit here and try and pick apart the album just cause of it
Saw them live the most beautiful work of art
Best song off the new album and definitely one of their best overall. It's scary how good this is...
fave song off the album, totally underrated
Favorite song on the album by far
This is my favorite song on the album by a long shot. Gosh the harmony is hella beautiful. Ths song makes me float. Perfect.
Everything about this is beautiful and Im really loving the bass in this song
God bless. I love anthony s twitch stuff too
My favorite song off the album
This is insanely beautiful, possibly my favourite song off the new record.
love this song💓💞💞❤
Intro and around 2:30 Reminds me of the mercury program so much, so beautiful
In love with this song, so addictive
still playing on August 2016 Boi! I'm glad my hb introduced them to me about a year ago. awesome band. great stuff. idk how they're not super famous by now. stupid gov.
Beautiful song, ill be seeing you fellas this Friday!
That last 20 seconds sounds like what i imagine the lonely and vastness of space to sound like. Scary...
Great fucking song, Circa... Great fucking song.
Hey everyone fighting in the comments, quiet down and listen to the 2:25 mark and on in this song. Do you understand the beauty? Can you even grasp the talent it takes to make a transition like that?
Part of me wanted this song to go in the complete opposite direction .. but now I know .. thus CD is gold
so the finaly like 20 seconds, KICKED ASS! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT!!
prolly my fav of the album so far
I miss him:c
Favorite song so far. All of them are great though
Amazing
SO much goosebumps
It does sound like Radiohead at first haha
It definitely has a "Hail To The Thief" atmosphere.
Frank FIgueroa
Holy shit I just realized that. Why didn’t I see that earlier?!
5 years later and this comment hit me like a dump truck what the FUCK
I fucking love the piano, guitar, and drums in this
this song makes me glad to be alive
I hear the melody of Precious by Depeche Mode in the chorus of this song
This song should be the opener for the new Bond movie!!! Kind of ironic that this song is named Phantom and the new Bond is named Specter!!
This song/album got me through 2017. My dog of ten years died, and my girl of 5 years cheated on me. Maaan.
That's really difficult, damn...
this is just perfect! does anyone know any other song from them like this? or even another band??? totally in love with this song
Almost all of their music is in some way in this style. I love kicking your crosses down.
House of Leaves is similar. Very airy and relaxing.
Also check out Balance and Composure (band).
This should be on Fantasy HD. The male publicum will know what i'm talking about.
Beautiful! I love the added keys. Great feel overall.
What's the part about a "ghost of a dozen other men" about? This song is an enigma, but truly beautiful
This song is about his addiction and feeling like a ghost of his former self, but so much that if feels like he's experienced a dozen men's worth of pain, anguish, darkness, etc.
Reall shit
Reminds me of a Deftones song
New to Circa... what other songs of theirs are like this? (older albums)
"Living Together" is an excellent road trip song and song by itself. But honestly, you can't go wrong with anything from their discography.
John Paul Bittner
Unpopular opinion here, but I didn't like Juturna all that much. Mostly because of Anthony's vocals on that album. I also prefer Circa's progressive/experimental side more than their post-hardcore side.
+NewWorld Otter I like that album the most out of all of them
"At a loss" is similar it's not on any of their albums though but you can find it on TH-cam.
***** :):):):):):) la estoy oyendo ......
someone needs to transcribe the opening groove on drums.. i cant figure it out
I feel lost with my girl that i've never have..
I understand he's speaking of someone he loves but I can't help of feeling the victim here
Reminds me of thier old stuff.
Is it just me or anyone else find Phantom resembles the same mood of Dream Theater's Space Dye Vest?
Yes, all the way yes.
Looking in the comments for the lyrics
At a loss
sounds like it could've been on young legs
I thought it was Radiohead at first
Some james bond shit!
Lovely tune
Pretty sure they generated their album covers with ai lol
They did not actually. In fact all of Circa Survive's art including every single, ep, b-side, and lp are done by painter/artist Esao Andrews. He's absolutely incredible.

I felt that way too. But some of the latter songs on Violent Waves really carry on the ambient tones of the Appendage EP.
That's what you call progression.
Paul V and Juturna and OLG were the best
To each their own I suppose. They caught a lot of flack for keeping a relatively similar sound for Juturna to On Letting Go. But i still think that was their best work

***** Remember when Anthony Green's vocals didn't consist of 'YEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEHHH YEH YEHHHH YEH YEHHHHHH" in extremely hoarse and sharp shitty shit shits?
This album is decent, But the melodies of Juturna and Violent Waves are too superior.
? This album has elements of all of the others combined . I mean for fucks sake .. Listen to it
Gary Stephens
I beg to differ. I think this is their best album by far.
