    I m 53 years old, was never bike fit. Riding a regular bike I would fatigue myself badly by the end of my rides. When I borrowed my friends e bike, my life changed, I rode any trail with so much enthusiasm and had so much uninterrupted fun, meaning I didnt have to get of my bike to push it anywhere but ride. I went uphill easy, rode over obstacles easy, it was pure joy of riding without having to recover for days after the ride. I love e bikes! P.s.I still got my heart rate up enough.

    Take a tip from an old fogey rider, when you lock and close the door to your van say out loud "the van is locked ". In this way you won't think to yourself later "did I lock the van?" 🙂

    Hey Heather… as a none E-Biker for the last 15 years of mountain biking here in the Uk… in June this year I purchased an E-bike and let me tell you it’s been the greatest addition to the bikes I have already (road,Gravel,mountain ) the E-bike just means you can ride more and further if you don’t have a lot of time and as for my fitness level its the same for sure…. So enjoy…

    I just got my first ebike (Fezzari Timp Peak) and it is a game changer. Loving it so far as it helps me with my weakest spot, clibming. I'm 55 with Hypertrophic CardioMyopathy. I had open heart in 2020 (Septal Myectomy), cardiac ablation in 2022 and I have had 13 cardioversions. I tried for many years to just power through, but it woudl take me 3X as long to climb anything since my heart is so inefficient leaving me unable to breath. I'm ecited to hit some of the mountain trails after the snow melt and hopefully not only have enough energy for the decents, but be able to do multiple laps.

  • @koho
    @koho ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It's a done deal. In California half all mountain bikes sold are now ebikes (and I mean actual MTBs). We all get along on our trails. It's a non-issue. Reminds me of when snowboards came out and ski areas tried to ban them for a time.

    • @HeatherMunive
      @HeatherMunive  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's great it should never be an issue in my opinion too. We are all outside enjoying the trails, shouldn't matter what bike you're on.

    I'll admit I was dead set in my ways against e-bikes and picked up an S-Works Kenevo SL. Its changed my tune a lot. I still ride my analog bike a lot, but when I want to push hard and do a lot of miles on a weekend ride I pull out the Kenevo SL and it is just as good a workout with a lot more laps put down. In fact I have broken many PR's on my analog bike after returning to the trails on it after a good number of e-bikes rides. Its shocking how fun it is.

      Yours is a common story. I’ve encountered so many anti e-bike riders that after riding one of my e-bikes went right out and bought one of their own. They’re just fun, simple as that. And of course there’s nothing stopping you from also riding your regular bike.

      @@HeatherMunive performance emtbs now barely weigh more than non motorized but you can go further, higher, longer, faster with emtb. If you have the terrain for it and the bucks, awesome... there's also a strategy for cheaper all in one - geared hub motor and frame mounted battery. disconnect the rear wheel and swap back to your regular wheel and leave the battery off - now you have the choice of using a motor or not, config can be changed in a couple of minutes

    E bikes help give confidence to do more stuff. The ability to maintain a solid speed to get thru technical areas and rock gardens is so inspiring. There are some people that don't maintain enough uphill speed, so they get stopped by chucky terrain and end up walking it... An ebike helps you get thru technical terrain which gives you confidence to do more stuff and ride longer. If you dislike hik-a-biking, try an ebike and earn some confidence, then try it with the old Amish bike to see if helps. I recommend the SL version of any Emtb!!! Its close as close to an Amish bike as possible with the option of having a bike-lift pass in your back pocket... Cheers!!! Ride more not less 🙂

    I've been a MTBer for 35 years now, raced every discipline, rode every type of bike, every iteration of tech before suspension, with suspension, heavy 35 + lbs bikes, all of it. Each iteration of advancement in frames, suspension, materials ect. made riding up or down much easier. Now the bikes are very specific to your objective, your desired experience: i.e., cross country, enduro, all mountain, trail, downhill....whatever. These bikes are all very different, all give up one attribute to enhance another, all specific to what you are trying to experience. Ebikes comes in all flavors as well with the objective to ride more often, longer, and in. my case to get a heavy enduro up the hill to go down...to experience what I want to experience. If I wanted to suffer on the climb, I would, but I don't. Pick the bike that gets you the experience you want, don';t fall into the "roadie" mentality of the only thing that matters is the climb and fitness. Actually, look into the origins of MTB, it's not going up (they put the bikes in a pickup and drove), it's going down. That is where 95% of the skills reside anyway. Ride and be stoked, be cool to others, and stop competing with everyone...just ride!

    • @meyeame8956
      @meyeame8956 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea I don't have a history of "official" mtb culture or anything and it's weird as an outsider when I hear elitists in the scene talk about "the climb" being some sort of merit system to get rewarded with the drop or something lame like that. Seeing someone zip past you with the help of a motor while you're dragging a bike up a hill on foot is going to naturally stir up negative emotions. Human nature. Jealousy and resistance to change is all it is. Happens with sooooo many different things not just biking hobbies. We should all be above that type of stuff, check those types of primitive feelings, and "ride on" as you say! Best

    Great vid! Was worried when we started with a fall. But Yerba matte time, Yes! If it helps others, I do love my creo e-gravel bike for the commutes and long gravel rides. I’ve had 2 e-mtbs, even a turbo levo pro but sold both. My dad loves them and only rides his Levo. But for me personally I prefer my s-works epic evo, for XC riding and medium jumps. It’s lighter, more agile, and just as fast. Once e-mtbs get into the 25 pound area I’ll probably get one again. I think it depends on the person and terrain. If your climbing hills non-stop, e-MTB is 100% fun. If you’re riding downhill and flats then it’s not as huge of a gain.

I even asked the locals if they had climbing trails that weren't straight up the mountain? Seriously, have the trail builders never heard of switchbacks? HAHA! Was convinced for sometime e-bike was letting myself down ... nah I was completely wrong. First tested out a Turbo Vado from Specialized for 7 miles ... realized I could adjust on the fly just how much assist I wanted / needed and wow did it open up my eyes. Still got in a fantastic work out (148 bpm) but wasn't killing my older 40s self on climbs cutting my rides short any longer. Two months later, picked up a Specialized Turbe Levo Comp and outside of having to take a few weeks off from going over the handlebars (healing up) been riding nearly 5 days a week and instead of struggling through 3 mile trails routinely out 10 or more miles of MTB trail riding able to tackle more technical stuff than I was able to in the past. For a late 40s chunky guy its literaly been a life changing event for myself.

    Nice video, this is kinda how I explain ebikes to people. "Downhill is about the same, but I can ride up to the top way more times than you can"

    Keep it wheel! Peace from England!

      Note that, for those on the fence about ebikes, I had a full sus 500wh, 80nm Giant from 2017 to 2022 and it was great but I never dropped below 40% battery and rarely used full power. It weighed almost 25kg so jumps weren't the best but it felt very grounded on trails.
      I recently changed to a Lapierre e-zesty am ultimate full carbon hybrid, meaning I can remove the battery AND motor on the fly. It only has a 250wh battery and a less powerful motor, but it's easily enough for me, and I dare say for most trail riders. I've been out for 3 or 4 hours on mixed terrain and still came home with around 30% battery, only going full power for one small climb.
      With the battery and motor it's about 18kg, without it's around 15.5!!
      It's an absolute beast of a ride.
      Well worth a look if riders don't want a heavy ebike or don't need the insane power most bikes give.

    Thanks for sharing a awesome video Heather really enjoyed it. I’m glad you are okay with your little Accident on your bike. Very nice bike Heather I personally would never go back to a steam bike again with the E bikes they make mountain biking so much more enjoyable. You still have to pedal it like every other bike. Just save energy climbing up the steep hills and then of course down hill is for having fun. Always looking forward to seeing you on your next adventure

    As for your gear and terrain, I ride similar Terrain , I have a full face, neck brace, knee and arm guards, don’t want to be an old father type and give advice, but being 66 and an aggressive rider I will! Get better gear, I did and it has saved me on many occasions. But an enjoyable video, well done.

    Compelling pro-ebike testimony, Heather, from you and your legion of followers. I see the advantage in an ebike for exploring. I often ride the same trails over and over, accessible from my house - there's that rock, there's that rut - and that gives me a fitness index (heartrate on a usual ride). But, like the Santa Cruz Bikes marketing email I recently got said: "At Santa Cruz, we used to argue about them. Now we fight over who gets the prime charging spot on the bike rack at work."

    Alright I have no MTB experience but can you please explain why you chose to wear that helmet vs your full face helmet. Obviously you know what you’re doing, but the faster you ride the more dangerous it gets right? The hard surface could easily shatter a jaw

    • @HeatherMunive
      @HeatherMunive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do wear a full face when I am at bike parks and other places. When I know I'll be climbing a lot I usually run my half shell. They both protect me when I need it. But the full face of course protects your face more.

    Ebikes are totally for lazy people. If that’s how you want to ride one. Or you can smash trails that otherwise you would only be able to go moderate speed bc of speed eating gnar, or can get in lots more downs and safer bc you are not as exhausted, or you can go hit some features or trails you normally wouldn’t consider on an Amish bike. Like any tool, it’s all in how you use it. Personally, I’m planning on getting one this offseason some time- have my eye on the Ibis Oso, although still need to demo it, so far just rode it around a parking lot. I plan to use it to do the three latter things I mentioned. No shuttle needed. Still plan to keep my Bronson for when I want an analog experience. Different bikes, different riding. Glad you’re Ok and appreciate you keeping the crash in the vid- so many Yourtubers would edit that out, but crashing is part of the sport- hopefully just not too much a part. Lol. 🤙

    I thought I was the only one who noticed the little black bug you almost crushed in the Intro!! I wondered if you crashed on the bike due to having too little casing in the tires but I looked them up and they are rated for Enduro. Lots of new bikes come with lighter "trail" casings and it is hard to hold a line on a savage trail going at speed...especially with you hard you ride. So....what is your thought on the crash or crashes? Do you think it was the extra weight or suspension setup or just getting used to different brakes? Ive had trouble with too much back braking when I have new pads and lose traction until I get used to them or get them burned and bedded better.

    • @HeatherMunive
      @HeatherMunive  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      haha that poor little bug, he survived! And the crash was because I went right into the rut I just got out of control and hit the bush too. In my opinion it wasn't the tires I had ridden the trail a lot before this run too and my eyes kept going towards the rut and then it got me
