- Hey all, I'm back again with another video!
This is something that I've always wanted to do and finally just sat down and grinded it out. The main riff from Sonic OVA is a total classic to any Sonic fan, and I've often wondered how it would sound as a level theme. Thus, this remix was born.
The intro template is by B0M!
Also, please go check out the video by tripplejaz! It's a proof of concept for a game he titled "Sonic Freedom" and it looks amazing. Hopefully someday SEGA puts the concept to good use! Here's the link to the video!

Toei/OVA Sonic is hands down the best classic sonic portrayal
+Knuckle Nation & Knuckles Absolutely. He's the version with the most pure attitude for sure.
I gotta disagree with you there (at least about the portrayal part-I like Sonic's portrayal in the Adventure games best), but there's no denying that the animation is the best in the franchise and most accurately reflects the scope of Sonic's natural abilities.

I have a story with this song and I want to share.
Back around 4 years ago. I was on a boat with my family. We went to go eat at this restaurant on the beach in which you could travel to by boat. We eat there and my dad was like. Hey we gotta get back quick. Sun is starting to set. So we finished eating and get on the boat. On the way back I decided to pop in my earbuds and listen to a music playlist. The first song was Glide (from RL) and the waves at this time where calmish. Then it’s about 5 minutes to Nautical Dusk. The song EPIC (Tokyo Machine) comes on and the waves start to pick up. We were getting about anywhere from 0.5-1 second of air time. It was pretty awesome. And fun. Then this song came on. It was REALLY close to night. The waves were INSANE. Most of the time when we hit a wave we would get 0.5 seconds of air time. The bad ones were 2 seconds. And the most air time was 3 seconds. (Ik it doesn’t sound a lot. But trust me. It was) it was kinda intense. However at the same time. Pretty fun. After the song ended we ended up back at the condo.

So a Sonic game with an art style similar to Hollow Knight but way brighter and not only in caves. Sounds GREAT.

If South Island was a zone, and not the entire Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
Wait? Where was it a zone?
Patkall TV, South Island was never a zone, but it has all of the zones in origanal Sonic the Hedgehog, since it takes place there.
Something was wrong about this South Island being a Zone. With that being said.... Angel Island is also a Zone and a place where most of S3&K takes place.

Reminds me a lot of the design choice for rayman origins and its an excellent choice considering how fantastic that game looked, I really would love to see a full game done in this style for either the ova or what not Its amazing! also you managed to emulate toei's sonic spot on I adore how much expression he has here super stellar work!

Best ive seen in a while
This very good stuff, it's like the animated intro on Sonic CD was lifted and put into a game. This is proof there is a lot of life and potential creating games in 2D with modern techniques, be it this or even side scrollers like Streets of Rage. Great music too, bubbly, fast and captures 90's Sonic perfectly.

i knew the metal sonic theme from mania adventures used an OVA motif :)

I like your take on the South Island theme. my only critique was the animation being a little too short, rather than having sonic go to another zone when going off-screen at the end. It's also understandable, being that animation could take alot of time to create and edit (be it something small or big)

However, if you look in the description, you will see that the animation is actually not my work. It is the brainchild of tripplejaz, an artist and designer who created the animation as a concept for a fangame he is creating, which is known as Sonic Freedom.
