It's a good thing Kyoto is a beautiful place anyway...

Sorry for the loss of your iPhone! i feel the frustration! dont worry you're not the only one! lost my Tripod in a bus in Kanazawa...and lost my iPhone5 in Singapore...sometimes you are overwhelmed by the things you see around you especially when it's your first time! just be more careful and mindful next time! take care just discovered you channel! and i love all your videos!!! was in Japan last January and cant wait to go back this April!!!

I’m Japanese and I have lost wallet and phone meny times in this country. But all times my lost things were backed to me. On my experience, your phone is must be in the Police station called Koban near ther or in the lost and found called Otoshimono sentā at Kyoto city. When we find lost article we usually bring it to the Koban or Otoshimono sentā. So you should try to call nearest few Coban and Otoshimono sentā.
lovely video!! It showed all the places we missed in Kee-yo-doh (the aussie pronunciation). Wife and I had a great time there, but only had 3 days to squeeze a bunch of stuff in.About the phone: oh wow, I actually i had the reverse. At the shop on the train platform when we were there the first time in may-june 2017, i found a phone left on the confectionery just under the shop clerks view. I handed it straight to the shop keeper
Damn! When you were connecting to your phone there as you were running, you could have pinged it! Probably not a force of habit in Japan, but I'd have been pinging my phone like crazy using the watch widget XD. Was just talked into another Japan trip for Kyoto/Osaka/Hiroshima this time so I'm back to study time XD
Totally sucks about your phone Hannah, apart from that, Loved your video and love your vids even more when Yoshi is there, he was hilarious, pulling faces at the camera. I was thinking about the circumstances that led you to get a new camera and now a new phone, it's like the curse of the tech lol Anyway, keep smiling and take care. Thanks.

Did you speak with the temple office maybe a day or two later? I'd also speak with the local police station that covers the area - probably Ukyo Keisatsusho 右京警察署（うきょうけいさつしょ) as someone might've handed it in? BTW, I enjoy watching your videos very much, as I'm in a very similar situation as you. I'm from Kyoto, living in London.

I lost my phone also in Kyoto last Autumn. But luckily i got it back, left it in the Taxi when alighting!

I lived in Korea for two years. Very honest people and I remember when I wanted to go to swim in the beach, I used to leave my money, credit cards, passport and cellphone behind in the beach and an hour after, they were still there. Until last day when I wanted to leave korea, I put a bag in front of my dorm and went upstairs to pick up some other stuff. When I came back, I couldn’t find my bag. I saw a black skinned guy is running with my bag...
AM Blame it on the black man! lol

That is shocking someone stole it. I’m at MCAS Iwakuni and people steal on base but once off base the locals are pretty nice and honest. Kyoto is a great place lots of people and things to see and do. Have you tried Co-Cos level 6 yummy..... 🤯

This video probably only took about 3 hours to make cuz it was half the length of my usual videos so not too bad at all! I edit with Final Cut Pro.

since you go thru phones so much, why not try out the google pixel 2? Its a really great phone, honestly it is! buy it from google.com you have 2 weeks to return it. Do a youtube review over it and tell us what you think? Take pictures with it, its truly got an amazing camera.
that's unlucky..i bet some tourist took your phone because my friend left her wallet with about 2k worth of usd in yen at a shop and got it returned to her with everything in it after she went back to the shop about half an hour later and that was in kyoto too..my other friend left his s8 phone in the arcade and only went back about an hour later to find it just sitting there beside the arcade machine...there are several other cases too but u get what i mean..and yes i know i travel with a forgetful bunch of people lol.
In Japan?? I always have the impression that's like the only country where you can leave money on the floor and come back hours later to still find it there lol

And of course your impression is 100% accurate because you are an expert on Japan. There is no such thing as a completely safe country. What many people like you did was mistaken the low violent crime rate in Japan to mean equally low rates for all types of crime. The theft and burglary rates in Japan are as high as those in any other nation. Plus, Japanese pickpockets are famous or infamous throughout it's history all the way up to modern times.
I basically did that.. i left my wallet with around 1k € in the train in Nagano, got it back 1 day later at a trainstation. Also 2x times my ipad in Tokyo, in a bar, drunk. :D In my opinion the people are not even thinking about the possiblitiy to steal.
Ask Yosshi sponsor an iPhone X for you :D but the way, i think is too crowded for a temple .
If you lost your phone on trains or a place where there is a limited number of tourists, you would be able to get your stuff back, but unlikely to happen this when you are at super touristic places as the Japanese hardly travel to these places recently.

Tip of the day: whenever this happens To You, go To www.iCloud.com or Ask someone with internet since You lost Your phone! (Yoshi in this case) You will find the feature find My Iphone there too!! You can track your phone unless the finder chose To turn it off. Did You try calling your OWN number? Since the finder cannot enter ur phone without ur pincode. Anyways this is probably too late now , but i hope this helps anyone Whois Reading this. Happend To my wife too so now we know :)
Yeah we tried to do that but my phone had no internet because it had an Australian sim card in it so find my iPhone doesn't work. You need to be at least connected to 3G :(

Not good to blame foreigners. You sound like the Thai police who immediately blame foreigners, especially the Burmese, whenever there's a hideous crime in Thailand
but it's a tourist attraction so the ratio of tourist to japanese people is higher...still i'm not saying it's definitely a foreigner that took it but the probability is way higher...but yeha it just takes one screwed up japanese person to mess up this entire theory
I find it shocking how many people still purchase iPhones. They are overpriced devices that (like many pieces of tech) are designed to decrease in performance within a short period to force you to buy the new and "improved" version. The logic is the same with those who only buy branded clothes, no matter the quality (which is often terrible when you compare it to the price). I wish I never lost my brick Nokia when I was a kid. That thing would still work. I guarantee it.
Like many travels to Japan, you mistaken the low violent crime rate to mean equally low rates for all other types of crime. Crime is everywhere and being a traveler (especially a Westerner who stands out in the crowd of Asians), you are going to be the focus of attention for any pickpockets and thieves because being a tourist means you must have more money on you than the average native Japanese going about their business. They will automatically assume (rightly or wrongly) that you also don't have the language fluency to give an accurate report to the local police and you would most likely not be able to give an accurate description even if you were fluent and saw the perp. Most foreigners in Japan are not cognizant of Japanese body language so cannot tell if someone was behaving odd or out of place such as someone watching/tailing you. Lastly, the vast majority of travelers have a tendency to throw reason and caution to the wind when they go abroad; they somehow gotten in their heads a naive idealistic view of the country when in fact Japanese pickpockets are renown throughout their history.
+JS even for tourists, Japan has a lower crime rate than most touristic places.

I'm sorry to say that. Yoshi is Yakuza. Because he has a tattoo. In Japan tattoo means Yakuza. If you have it please don't come to Japan. You make people scary feeling.
