The cafe & coffee scene in Japan is incredible, I am OBSESSED ✨ Any other coffee/cafe lovers out there?? 😍
If you don't believe me... Tokyo actually JUST ranked as the world's 2nd best city for coffeee!! (with Sydney my hometown right behind in 3rd place) ☕

When an Aussie girl gives comments on coffee shops, she automatically deserves trust😉 Australia was definitely one of the greatest coffee countries out there. We indulged ourselves with four coffees per day at a minimum when we travelled to Australia earlier this year. Now I'm so ready for our upcoming trip to Kyoto/Osaka next month!

Oat milk may enhance the coffee flavour because unlike cow's milk which may have a high fat concentration, it is carbohydrate/sugar based and thus contrasts the coffee nicely. In Italy drinking coffee with a little bit of sugar is recommended

We welcome you in Kyoto where I'm living. This video is so fun even for us living in the city. Next time, you are invited to stop by Cafe Soiree near Shijo-Kiyamachi. The cafe has a very long history and a unique fantastic classical atmosphere probably you can't find it any other else. I believe you would love it!

I'm not a cafe person but there was one in Uji called Uji-Biyori that I'd never forget
Went for the matcha coffee and ice cream, stayed for the service
the elderly couple were so welcoming and the elderly man even played me a song on his harmonica, he didn't know any NZ songs so he just played me an Australian song lol, one of my favorite visits in Japan
I might start visiting some more and the ones in your video, next time I visit again...
    Cool video as always

I stayed in the APA across from Kurasu when I was in Kyoto, some of the best espresso I had in Japan. I met a lovely gentleman there named Kokoro who was a tour guide having a break. He was learning German in the cafe, while speaking to me in English, as well as Japanese I don't doubt he knew some other languages too. An impressive chap, and one of my favorite conversations while visiting.

As an American, I'm shocked at the school bus cafe. I didn't know something so smelly and awful as a school bus would be so loved. Made me wonder how much American inspiration there is in Japan. I hear it's a lot. But I love the spots you showed us! Perfect to have with my own coffee and breakfast this morning. I'm jealous of how thick that toasted bread is. I love good bread so I follow you for those recs. I'm glad you don't try to hide that about yourself. Japanese bread does seem wonderful. I love Columbian coffee, so I wish I knew what that one you tried was. Like the exact profile. Fruity sounds nice. I don't like bitter coffee either. That map at Blue Bottle seems helpful for tourists. Loved the hand drawn and English translations in Sarasa cafe.

At the beginning of my Uni years, I found a coffee place about 15 mins from campus and it was this cute French bakery/coffee place and it was the best. I went there several times and would enjoy a cup and study! I’m pinning all of these places in Kyoto and will visit them!

A lot of people wouldn’t associate Japan with coffee but they absolutely smash the coffee game here. This video was cute n all but I go hardcore, UCC instant coffee for 400 yen a pop mate. As the instant coffee granular blends in harmony with the boiled water I get the perfect aroma of ‘nice coffee and would rather do literally anything than go to work today.’
    Nice video! Subscribed 👍

Interesting, you read in my mind. I'm planning a 1 month trip to Tokyo in October 2024 and I was searching what are the best coffee shops in Japan not later than a few days ago! When I travel, I usually like to identify a few coffee shops that look nice. I can then check if there's any interesting monument/museum/touristic attraction near it. If not, the best coffee shops are usually hidden in areas that are not very touristic so it's still a good way to discover a neighborhood outside of the usual touristic path. I'm also filming some of my trips and I'll have more than enough time in one month to spend a few days discovering new coffee shops, chilling there and editing some of my videos. I'm open to all suggestions in Tokyo and beyond (I'll use the high speed train to do some round way trips in other cities in Japan as long as it is feasible in one day).

If you're taking recommendations: The Otherside Cafe in Osaka, it's a "music cafe" on the second floor, with big windows and a loft area, great coffee and tasty sandos served uniquely. They have excellent music on, me and the staff chatted about music for a bit. As an Aussie you might appreciate, he asked me for some good Australian bands and I totally blanked on indie bands, so if you hear "Silverchair" playing when you visit that's my fault :D

I've been using oat milk when I eat cereal lately, or mix with chocolat syrup if I crave a chocolate milk. I've been trying to cut down on dairy. But nothing tastes right in my coffee except half & half. I've tried other variants like 2%, whole milk, cream, and also almond, soy and oat, but always came back to half & half, so I'm sticking with it now.
I hope I get a chance to visit some cafe's pretty much anywhere in Japan again. It's always been a nice experience no matter which city.
What is a flat white? I'm not familiar.
It's so nice to see so many vegan options in Japan lately. I'm not vegan myself, but I was vegetarian for a while (now gone back to omnivore). The struggle for even vegetarian options was very real in Japan in the early 2k's. I gave up on vegetarianism while I was there and haven't gone back. I will say that most Japanese food is vegetable rich and very healthy. They just didn't seem to get the concept of removing the meat from their dishes that traditionally include it while I was there. Also, Japanese cuisine in general is probably of the highest quality of anywhere I've been, so when I switched back to consuming meat, it was worth it for me.

So glad I clicked to watch this video! I won't visit Kyoto anytime soon, but eventually I'd like to run the Tokyo Marathon and this is giving me good coffee vibes for Japan. Random question, what do you film with?

Are flat whites becoming more common in Japan now? It’s my favourite way to drink coffee but I havn’t had much luck finding it in Japan, last time I was there I asked in Starbucks if they serve it yet and they didn’t but the staff said she knew what it was and made it for me off menu 🙏🏻

Yup definitely popping up more and more these days! Wow! Can’t believe Starbucks served you one! I could imagine the Starbucks Reserve doing it but not the standard one 😂

As someone who only drinks pour over or espresso with occasional out flat white it was a bit sad to see you didn’t get to taste any (except for the moment you tried the ones from testing spot), but I still enjoyed watching this tour very much. I have to compliment your video skills together with your soothing voice and in my view a lovely taste in clothing :)
