4:06 yup as soon as I saw the pegs and that tall mast, that’s the absolute MAXIMUM limit for me. Being that high up is one thing surrounded by metal or climbing a ladder, but when your open and you have 2 inch tall heads on those pegs, that’s it for me
Major props to this guy for having balls of steel. I personally do not feel comfortable putting my pelican hooks on the pegs. In this situation, I would wrap an endless sling around the tower, and clip off to that. Then I would shimmy the sling up the tower around the pegs as I go. That way, in a fall, the sling would catch on the pegs, hopefully. Ideally, there should be a cable climb up there, or at least some engineered eyehooks to clip your pelicans through. I wonder what the architect of this tower was thinking in not installing adequate safety measures for the climber. 🤔
I think part of what makes this a really difficult thing is the amount of energy you have to exert at such a high altitude. You can easily lose consciousness
I wonder how dangerous this actually is, given all the safety equipment and precautions. The first part isn’t so bad but the last part look incredibly unsafe
this kinda reminds me of that movie "Fall", where one really bad friend talks an old friend into climbing an old radio tower, about a year or two after she lost her fiance to a climbing accident. the tower was basically in the middle of nowhere unless you count an old diner and motel but they weren't particularly close enough. I didn't think it would be good but I thouroughly enjoyed it. hell, I just checked the dates and it seems like they got a little inspiration from your video. that's cool.
@@asiancairrou6232 temporary tie off points are what should of been used. You wrap a strap around the pole and hook a y-lanyard then continue upward in the same fashion. Another alternative would be the tower owner adds tuff tug tie off pints to the peg bases for your Y's. Anything that you tie off to shouldn't allow your safety's to slide or bounce of during impact
This is insane. Im literally just watching it on my phone and the whole time I was clinched and had to keep the screen away from me because it felt like I was going to fall. Unreal I wouldn’t be able to do it for a trillion dollar.

Had that tingling sensation in my balls when he started climbing. They better pay this guy a lot. Crazy job
$40k for 2 climbs a yr. $40k for 2 days of work.
@@jamesfoster3488 He might only climb *that* tower once every six months, but it's not the only tower. Most tower engineers service several towers per week and rack up thousands of climbs over the years.
There’s levels of bravery but this is beyond bravery. Respect to the guy
Planes passing by be like:
Yo how's the day?
And we still haven’t come up with an easier way to do this? Insane
can just the bulb's base have lift? so it can move up and down
@@orakatokansek and then you gotta repair the lift
I'm sure a helicopter can be used, but it's somewhat more dangerous to the worker and very very expensive per bulb change.
Certainly a lot faster.
I'd imagine a big drone with extendable arms being able to quickly change it and for less cost.
Edit: something like this
th-cam.com/video/T6kaU2sgPqo/w-d-xo.html
This dude changing light bulbs for heaven
😆😆😆😆
God: “My lightbulb has burnt.”
Lightbulb Chad: “Say no more.”
Imagine getting up there only to realize you forgot the new bulb.
I remember when i was a teenager my friend and i climbed 200+ ft up a feed mill platform. Straight ladder all the way up but the floor hatches were locked so we had to climb around them. It was intense. But this... This is just insane
You should watch the Russians that climbing cranes on top of buildings in china.
Much respect! That was a tough climb and those step pegs do break off from time to time I've seen them missing before on my way up a mono-pole
How did you get started with this job?
@@jerolinhoclimb trees
Respect to do this job and the panic when a peg falls off or is missing holy
The physicality of this is just as strenuous as the mental aspect. Whether or not you have the mental strength to do this, yoh still need to be physically capable of doing it too. What a juggle of mind and matter working together. 💪
Oh damn! I forgot to bring the new bulb.
He did. Ita in his back pocket. Let him grab it just... Woops. Dropped it
If my man falls those clips are sliding right off those pegs. I hope he’s got a parachute on.
Bro faxxxx that shit ain’t safe at all
Those pegs are basically rods, jeez. Guessing thats why he is secured on both sides. If he slips one direction the other clip is sliding in towards the tower. If he then swings the other way though...💀
@@Acaerwen coming from a tower climber 😃, The end of those pegs are much more pronounced in person than the video shows. Very little chance of it sliding off but still possible
@@brycecockrell4042 is it a fun job? Do a lot of young people apply?
@@nicesmack9309 It's terrifying. If you find this type of work fun or really interesting, you should seriously do it. You can get paid a lot. Like the guy in the video who gets paid 40k to do this twice a year. 40k FOR 2 DAYS OF WORK!!!
4:06 yup as soon as I saw the pegs and that tall mast, that’s the absolute MAXIMUM limit for me. Being that high up is one thing surrounded by metal or climbing a ladder, but when your open and you have 2 inch tall heads on those pegs, that’s it for me
Yep! I rather climb hydro poles that have waaaay better pegs! they actually are curved! SMH
Holy hell that looks so hard , thanks for sharing man was fun watching
Major props to this guy for having balls of steel. I personally do not feel comfortable putting my pelican hooks on the pegs. In this situation, I would wrap an endless sling around the tower, and clip off to that. Then I would shimmy the sling up the tower around the pegs as I go. That way, in a fall, the sling would catch on the pegs, hopefully. Ideally, there should be a cable climb up there, or at least some engineered eyehooks to clip your pelicans through. I wonder what the architect of this tower was thinking in not installing adequate safety measures for the climber. 🤔
Yes!! This is insane and i really respect what this man doing. But can we appreciate the cameraman too? He's doing his job well
The camera is attached somewhere on his body.....maybe his helmet.
@@tonytitado6478 I think you missed the joke
I think part of what makes this a really difficult thing is the amount of energy you have to exert at such a high altitude. You can easily lose consciousness
It’s just 2000 feet lol
He probably has a parachute
its not high enough to loose that much oxygen
You know Denver is at 5280 foot elevation right?
@@ryankeaton2602 do you know he is climbing 2000 ft with little too no rest in between right?
Imagine climbing all the way up there to change the light bulb only to realize you brought a bad bulb with you.
Tht “oh shit” made me realize how human he was boa was just scared asl thought he was outta there😭🤦🏾♂️
Nah that part made me terrified, i thought i was gonna witness a death
Bro, it takes a special breed for that. No way I could even fathom attempting that.
Bro this man have some balls Like watching this made Me Sick to my stomach of how Dangerous it is if u don’t Take care
I'm surprised the tower can handle the weight of his balls
I WANNA DO THAT. But the way the carabiners could totally slip off the rungs scares the shit out of me.
At 18:17 when he said "wtf?" I guess he was questioning his life choices 🤣
I wouldn't do that for 100k a year. Which is what this brave soul should be paid.
They get paid 300k a year and only have to work 2 days
@@jaredhollingshead6570 how do u know? Also is it the same on ur first year doing it?
@@jaredhollingshead6570 Other sources say they’re paid 20k and only do it twice a year. So a annual salary of 40k BEFORE taxes. Forget about it!
@@deanwinchester3356 20k for an hour of work though.
Are you allowed to keep a parachute on incase
I was just thinking that 😂
When hea climbing the pegs at the end, looking up is just as uncomfortable as looking down.
Because your not suppose to put your Y lanyards on pegs. He didn't do a majority of this video safely at all
@@regtreglow how should or what kind of carabiners should he have latched to the pegs though? What are safer options to hook onto them?
@@asiancairrou6232 temporary tie off points are what should of been used. You wrap a strap around the pole and hook a y-lanyard then continue upward in the same fashion. Another alternative would be the tower owner adds tuff tug tie off pints to the peg bases for your Y's. Anything that you tie off to shouldn't allow your safety's to slide or bounce of during impact
Ok, but who designed it so that you would have to hold on to those nuts and bolts at that one spot?
Exactly man. they are perverts
That’s got to be real safe. Securing your line to a 3/4” copper tube 🫣
At that orange section my legs would be shaking like crazy and I would trip down to the kingdom come..
Hats off to this guy. I’m not an anxious person but this had me wound up 😬
You can hear his breath trembling while just being at the top. Being above the clouds and doing this shit is mad terrifying
This is insane. Im literally just watching it on my phone and the whole time I was clinched and had to keep the screen away from me because it felt like I was going to fall. Unreal I wouldn’t be able to do it for a trillion dollar.
Probably one of the bravest things I saw someone did in my life
@WetLettuce-kc2qm go and do it then. Record so we can say you are brave
@WetLettuce-kc2qm He wasn't throwing a hissy-fit in his reply, unless his edit changed the tone of his comment. Btw, that's actually a pretty good point.
Not a bloomin chance! Full respect to this guy
I was a Naval Aviator for more than 20 years, and this scares the you-know-what out of me!
I can only imagine the full process. This video starts out with this dude sliding open a door in a the clouds already
Now just imagine how they managed to build it
Just the thought that every time he unclips the safety harness he has a chance of falling is terrifying
How did the cow get up there? I can hear it mooing.
Now Im wondering how the hell did he get down
Probably by parachute.
When I was a kid we used to play “Don’t Touch the Ground” on our swing set… the idea was, we were way up in the air, and the ground was the sky, and we had to climb across the swing set and slide without touching the ground….
4:30 THIS was what I imagined the view looked like from the swing!!
Y’know….We always see em climb up but we never see em climb down…
They jump off
Watched a movie and this is what my mind thought of:
Never ever climb a radio tower without any extra extra gear, especially if said tower is rusty
