@@burdrchitect1680nah that’s definitely that’s old school mello writing, which I loved about the 80s-90s, it was truly an amazing era for drum corps. Amazing shows in the 2000s as well.
Man is it bad that I’ve watched this clip about 10 times in a row and literally LAUGH out loud each time at the insanity of that line? Holy shit guys, that was just madness! BTW, was at Finals in 1998 and this was by far my fav show.
@@Jay-hp3tu Oh I love me some Star - though 1990 Star was my favorite hornline. That first what, minute, of hornline that sounds like a pipe organ is just gorgeous and lush.
I had always loved this lick, when listening to the audio. But, I had NO IDEA it was this EVIL and raucous because it was kind of covered by the rest of the ensemble. Thanks for the clip. Hats off and much respect to the Cadets '98 mello line!
I remember you telling us about this lick. I’ll stick to my good ol 10th place Tuba book thank you. I ain’t got time to be as good as this again. Even if I could, I’d probably have one good show left in me!!
Holy crap. No one writes mellos like that. Beastly playing.
Not at all.. its a double tonguing crap. which I enjoy. But the Mello writing in the 90s were amazing
...Any more. Early 90s: Star of Indiana.

@@rifle2563 Please name a show bc I can't think of one. This is a different type of mello writing than what is written today.

You should watch Star '91 and remember the Godfather of Mello Lines.

For anyone asking,
yes they did win in this year.

Always need a powerful Mellow section, it's the most important one after all
Found the mello player
tuba is the most important! i mean the mellos do get cool parts and all but the tuba keeps the band in order.
I came here expecting to hear The Lick™ 😜
Yep....and THAT one was about the entire horn line.
I was fucking baited
I didn't trademark it, Hoss. It's just what we called it.
You gonna be okay?
@@jasonbentley3989 This is known among jazz musicians as "the lick." (It's not actually trademarked.) th-cam.com/video/krDxhnaKD7Q/w-d-xo.html
Cadets always some of the most unique mello writing to this day and I love it
And this is another great example of why they are The Golden Section!
I’m marching Harmonic Journey this year, and I thought our music was hard!
This is the kind of stuff that nowadays it hits like early to mid june and go “yah, that seemed cool, but i don’t think this is realistic”
didn't they always say this mid-june?
Oh yeah, was at finals in 98' and this show was the obvious winner, it was SO CLEAN and man, what a book!

Holy CRAP! Was that the final score? I’ve never heard all that!
It was.. I love me some 90s cadets..the mello books had some raw meat...now this is the first time I've heard it up this close. Lordy..
@@burdrchitect1680 I spent YEARS trying to figure out that mello run, even AFTER marching Cadets and I finally got to hear it up close. FANTASTIC!

98.4 ~~ 39.5 in GE and perfect score visual performance

The 90’s socks are strong with this video
I'm a trumpet player but I cannot help but love the mellophone
It's the electric guitar of the brass world, which is why I love it.
as a mello player who thinks the lick is the funnies thing in the world: so true!
Boy, we’ve come a long way since then. (Crown)
I’d put the 98 line up against anything before or since. Crown wasn’t playing on instruments made out of gas station jewelry.
I got to see this show in late July or early August. I think it was in blountville TN. It was impressive.
Good God almighty!!!😱
39.5 GE and perfect score for visual performance
that backwards flex
I'm gonna have to scan the superfan videos again because I don't remember seeing or hearing this part of what we got from Sam.
I loved your stories on how crazy this lick was!!!
HOLY HELL WHAT IS THAT
Lol they wore drums so high back then!
My highschool band had the same kind of thing. We had this little Mello lick at the closer of our 2018 show. We abused that lick more than "the" licc.
I was not expecting it to be that loud. I dont know what I was expecting but not that
The Bomb! I love it! You guys were bad ass! So when you in your 60’s ...we still bad! :)
damn percussion shorts have been around forever
That was nasty
I found the stock finale sounds😂
A fellow Mello from 98 is going to scan the music for part 3. I'll post it when I get it.

Where is this in the show?
