Sleigh Ride but I play every part

- Wow this video was a challenge! This song is probably my favorite Christmas song to listen to/play and I really wanted to attempt something crazy by seeing if I could play every single part with the knowledge and skill I've developed across many instruments. And after a week of on and off recording I did it. Here is Leroy Anderson's arrangement of "Sleigh Ride" performed entirely by me!
Instruments used:
Woodwinds:
Piccolo
2 Flutes
3 Clarinets
Bass Clarinet
Contra Alto Clarinet
2 Alto Saxes
Tenor Sax
Bari Sax
Brass:
3 Cornets
2 Trumpets
4 Horns
3 Trombones
Baritone
Tuba
(String Bass)
Percussion:
Sleigh Bells
Bells
Temple Blocks
Snare Drum
Bass Drum
Cymbals
Slapstick
Xylophone
Wow this video has taken off! If you enjoyed this I would greatly appreciate if you could subscribe! If only 2% of people who watched this subscribed, my channel would be at 1,000 subscribers which has been a goal of mine for years. Thank you for watching and I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
Update 12/10/24: We hit 1k! 🎉
I subbed!
hope you'll get there soon!
You're so incredibly talented! I could never play so many instruments, I only play the piano and its so difficult already for me !
When you have to do the entire group project yourself:
I didn't have to, I chose to!
@@evanbonannomusic he knows, it's just a funny memeish saying
To be honest i have done many group projects and this is a dream lmao
Brother, this dude is so talented being able to do every single instrument in sleigh ride rock on dude
That means so much to hear! Thank you for listening!
@@evanbonannomusic i dont blame you for not doing strings haha. i can barely play it on my violin myself (as a freshman)
I actually recently got a cello and fixed up a violin myself so I'm on my way there! I'd love to be able to have real string orchestra textures in my recordings someday
Perhaps! But why discourage people from doing something they enjoy? After all, the original quote is: “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” - William Shakespeare. As long as you are good enough at your primary instrument, it's not a bad thing at all to experiment with others. There are plenty of incredible musicians who play multiple instruments and are still masters at their main! :)
I’m in 7th grade and I play 14 instruments, you sound amazing and have been inspiring me for about 3 weeks now! Keep on going!

@@evanbonannomusicTHAT'D BE SO FUNNY
@@evanbonannomusic Lmao yesssss
I love how you didn't just use trumpets but actually used cornets too for their respective parts
Figured it was worth doing since I can play and have a Cornet at home!
I am thinking of doing this on saxes, then branching out to the clarinet family as well. This guy just goes out and plays the whole band!! This is awesome!
Thank you!
I gaze upon my band with a disappointed look on my face
Double reed instruments:
*Sitting in the far corner forgotten*
I would have included them if I played double reeds at the time of recording this :(
Do you tho?
The double reeds I currently play are oboe and duduk. I am taking bassoon lessons starting in January as well!
This is horrifying dedication. You don't usually see this. Flute, Clarinet, Bass and contra alto, Alto/Tenor/Baritone saxophone, Trumpet, possibly cornet, the horns of France, 3 blind trombones, Euphonium and Tuba, Contrabass, Slapstick, Jingle bells, Glockenspiel, and and the Rock drum thing.
Can confirm they are cornets! There are few you missed but they are all listed in the description if you are curious. Thank you the comment!
so sorry but as a french horn player hearing “the horns of France” is so funny to me for some reason 😂
the rock drum thing 😭
@helpmeplease403 especially because they aren't even from France!
@@evanbonannomusic Correct, Germany, but by name sake that joke works.
Ah yes, the never ending offbeats of the horn section truly marks the coming of Christmas for me. Loads of respect, I play 4 instruments but I cannot imagine playing this many, and with such good technique and tone! Keep learning and keep growing, you're going to go places!
Thank you! I appreciate the compliments
LOVED this slapstick cover of sleigh ride! .... oh and the other instruments too i guess
THANKS :)
bro learned all the instruments so we didn't have to
Obviously its super impressive that you can just play every instrument but also I imagine getting them all in time was a big challenge too, so congrats because this was amazing!
Was definitely challenging! It was quite fun though!
as a highschool percussionist, you nailed the slapstick!

New meaning of "one man band"
Thank you!
Underrated! Crazy how much work is shown and put into this!
Thank you!
This is awesome! I play clarinet and it sounds like the version we played in high school so that was special to me. Just so cool!
Dude this is so impressive! My orchestra played this arrangement last year, but I simply can't imagine the amount of effort that went into playing every part yourself, especially with instruments from different families. I'm so glad this showed up on my fyp, gonna check out your other stuff now because I really enjoyed this. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to say all this! Happy you enjoyed it
yooo is that a contrabass clarinet? this is so sick dude i aspire to be this multitalented
Contra-Alto Clarinet!
No Eb Soprano :((((@@evanbonannomusic
Should i have chosen band instead of orchestra to understand 😅
“We have sleigh ride at home” ahh
For nearly all of the parts recorded, it was indeed "sleigh ride at home" for me lmao
I'm really impressed you actually hit all those notes on the keyboard instruments with that sticking.
I'm not very experienced in percussion which is pretty clear here. I'm pretty good on drumset but I do wish I could have more opportunities to get better at my concert and mallet percussion. I didn't have much time to record all of the percussion in my school but I did what could! Someday, I hope to have legitimate percussion technique!
This is very fun to listen to! The talent and co-ordination put into this is stellar! I really like the parts, like 1:46, where the brass and xylophone are played together, it just makes for such a cozy sound
Thanks for watching/listening! I really found a new level of appreciation for Leroy Anderson's writing when recording this. So many interesting and colorful timbre combinations! You don't always hear until you take a deeper look
nobody talking about the horse sfx! so cool
@famitracked Thank you for complimenting the effect! I really worked hard on getting it down since I'm not a trumpet main
I've met people who have a similiar talent in the past, but usually they only know how to play a load of instruments really badly. This however, sounds really good!
Thank you so much! I really aspire not to end up like those people
i couldnt even play my one instrument part on this piece u r crazy talented/skilled!
@maddie-yt2qn just have to practice it a bit more and I'm sure you'll get there! I had to practice some of these parts quite a bit before I could execute them well
This is so cool!!! You must be really talented to be able to play so many instruments and play SLEIGH RIDE. Meanwhile I can only play the flute and just a little percussion lol. Keep up the good work👏✨
Thanks! I've recently been trying to improve my flute chops so its cool that you play flute too!
Dude I aspire to be this lmao. I'm 14 and In my room rn I have a tuba (my primary band instrument), a trombone, a trumpet (w a broken 2nd valve), a cornet, an alto sax, a drumkit, and a keyboard. Downstairs I have a legit upright piano which is my primary instrument. I tinker with composing, though I struggle with the transposing of saxes and french horns :/. This video is inspiring to me!! New sub :)
I was quite similar to you at that age! Keep at it and you will achieve so much!
I just bought a clarinet 🤫 @@evanbonannomusic
update wow you came up on my recommended uhh so I wrote a piece like 6 months ago for my hs and got it performed and now I’m starting compositions for summer program applications my most anticipated being that of Juilliard. I’m cracked at piano now too btw I play gigs for a jazz combo
@jtpiano4937 That's really awesome! Sounds like you're enjoying music and finding lots of different avenues to explore. Juliard is a great goal to shoot for. I wish you the best!

This sort of thing is EXTREMELY tricky to do, and he does it EXTREMELY well! Bravo! Also, he does one of the best 'horse's neigh' that you will ever hear.....
Thank you! It certainly was one of the most daunting things I've attempted musically. I am not a brass player primarily so I spend a decent amount of time really trying to get the horse whinny to sound up to my standards. I'm glad you liked it!
Somebody get this man a cloning machine! Awesome job, btw

Played this song on… many different instruments 😂😅 across many years of the annual Lighted Truck Parade in Fort Bragg, CA. Missing my tiny home town memories, ESPECIALLY from the many years of musical performance. Thanks for bringing back some fun childhood memories 💗
Glad this brought back such awesome memories! I am so glad music I have put out into the world has the power to do that!
And to think that I can barely play it on my own instrument. Keep up the great work, you are very talented!!!
Thank you!
I only like one Christmas song, "Sleigh Ride." The Boston Pops' version USED to be my favorite. Now, "Sleigh Ride" by Evan Bonanno is my favorite version. Dude! You nailed this one! Wow!
I'm honored! Thanks for listening!
I would like to believe that I could do this. Fantastic job. Your tuning is impeccable.
Wow, I am absolutely impressed. What a multi-talent! Thanks for this fantastic and wonderful musical performance!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate it greatly!
This is despicably and disgustingly underrated.
@@supeershoup I admire your choice in words 👍
Now that's what you call dedication. Bravo!
Many thanks!
I didn’t know that there was a double bass in this song
Me neither until a few years ago! Many concert band arrangements (including this one) will have a string bass part in addition to the normal members of a wind ensemble. It generally will just double whatever the Tubas are doing, so it isn't usually necessary
Bro, this is so cool, good job, man
@@Adamthecoolguy123 Nothing cooler than Christmas in August!

This is incredible!! I've been trying to learn flute from alto sax but it's been hard, can't imagine how much work went into this!!
It definitely was a lot of work but also a ton of fun to put together and learn! Keep up the good work on flute! (I'm a saxophone main as well)
You should play Mountain Dance by Ed Kiefer. Great piece
I'll consider it!
VERY WELL DONE!
Thank you very much!
Yo this is sick! I play Bari sax, and we are playing this in 8th grade right now and preparing it for our winter concert. My Bari part is really easy with the quarter note quarter rest quarter note quarter rest alternation. We have the supporting roles. But man you playing every role was rlly sick! I used to play alto for this, and did you play both parts? Also the tenor part adds huge volume to the entire piece! I’m A sax guy, but ur a general band dude that’s so sick! Have a great day man!
I am actually a saxophone main myself! Keep making music and working hard. I'm glad you liked it :)
Edit: yes I did both alto parts!
This is awesome, amazing work 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
