  • Once you've made mashed potato like this, you'll never go back to your old ways again! Join me in this short video where I'll share my super-simple recipe for the best mash you'll ever make.
    Recipe:
Five or six large baking potatoes (I used Tyson, Melody, King Ed would work)
    100-150ml milk
250g (half-a-pack at least - yes, really) good quality salted butter
    Salt & pepper to taste
    Method:
    Pre-heat oven to 170°C / 340°F
Prick potatoes all over with a sharp knife
Bake, about 1 1/4 hours, until tender
Halve immediately and allow to steam, cut side up, 5 mins
Meanwhile, cube the butter and add to the milk in a large pan
Heat gently until butter has melted
Spoon potato from skins into the milk (freeze the skins for another time!)
Mash thoroughly with a potato masher until your desired consistency
Adjust with a little more milk / butter if necessary
Season to taste with salt and pepper
If you're after more of a pomme puree consistency, instead of using a masher, push the potatoes through a stainless-steel sieve or screen.

Wow nice one mate I would have never thought to bake them. They look superb I do warm milk and butter as that makes a big difference too. I also run some dried rosemary through my mash with a dash of horseradish love it. Great video mate and agree sitting on the floor is not best ha ha

Well well well... The algorithm found your channel for me! My secret technique is to put the potatoes in a ricer, skin on. You do lose the skins this way, but you do get a lot of mash out of them!

Haha, great to see you here! 🙂 That's a great tip, no wasted mash with that technique I bet!

To take mash all the way up to 11, pop the mash into a baking dish of some kind, use a fork to form and shape it into a cake, then pop it under a hot grill until the top is all brown and crispy. Looks and tastes great. Yum.

You’ve done it again. I have been failing at mashed potatoes for decades. I’ll be trying this tomorrow with pork. With your gravy, of course.
