Actually I think this misses the Christmas episode where there's something giant falling on a crowd. The entire crowd leaves except for him who instead raises his arms as of he's embracing death.
In his comic he inserted himself as a person with superpowers who works from his base on the space orbit, and in this circumstances he reads letters from fans. And is deliberately choosing the stupidest three of them.
A lot of the food gags are jabs at his eating habits. The Tallest always having snacks is a jab that Jhonen was always snacking at work and basically had a mountain of food. Even the joke in the movie about the “horrible” taco restaurant “oh no, I think that place is filthy, GIR like that place” was in reference to how Jhonen would often take people from the studio to a horrible and disgusting Mexican restaurant close by after recording sessions and that Jhonen was the only person who liked it.

My biggest question is why he gave himself red hair when he has black hair in real life. Maxwell Atoms did the same thing in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, so I wonder if its a reference to a famous animator.
