We have the water wraith which is called ectoplasmic multiple times, and it's called a wraith (a type of ghost) and it's Japanese name is a type of yokai, a type of ghost. Ghosts are an established part of pikmin lore. It is 99% certain that Glow pikmin will be ghosts. If they aren't, I will be suprised.

What if oatchi's upgrades dont work like traditional points but are rather like a set of perk points where you have a set amount of points to divide amongst the different skills and you have to choose which abilities are the most important to have. Do note how there appears to be an option to downgrade as well given how theres and L button icon to go back. Perhaps you really cant just maximize all his stats.
I think it’s to be able to read what the lower levels of the upgrades do e.g buff level two may say he has the strength of 5 pikmin. But who knows, it sounds possible
I actually don’t think this is the bad ending from Pikmin 1, and that is for 1 simple reason: Olimar talks to the player. The Pikmin 1 ending shows the Pikmin parasite planting in Olimar, which is exactly what happens with the bulbmin. That being said, bulbmin act like Pikmin, with only extremely defining characteristics showing though (the adult bulbmin still have the insatiable hunger of bulborbs). Not only that, he has a dog that is similar to oatchi, who isn’t exactly native to the planet. This makes me think that Olimar came back on a solo mission and went rogue, similar to how Louie went rogue in Pikmin 2
To be fair, bulborbs never spoke in the first place, and olimar's an adult anyways, so I don't consider that a hole in the theory... Also, just because he still speaks doesn’t mean he's fully "himself." That being said, we'll definitely get to save him by the end of the game, Nintendo isn't going to leave the franchise's flagship character "dead" like that.

There is other evidence for the theory though that I haven’t seen, and that’s that Olimin has a red stem and red stuff around his face, and in the bad ending he gets put through the red onion.

I 100% think it IS the bad ending from Pikmin 1 for 2 reasons. 1) Go back and watch the character customization trailer. They say there was a distress signal from Olimar coming from a “mysterious planet”…this implies that they don’t know anything about the planet which they should after pikmin 1, 2 and 3. 2) At 2:58 (in the new trailer not this video) look closely in the top right corner of the screen and you can see the SS Dolphin partially buried…they sold the dolphin in Pikmin 2 so why is it here? And if it’s partially buried then how long has it been there?… I don’t think this Olimar ever made it off the planet.
Glowmin are produced out of those anthill looking things. When you see those stars go in there is a pop at the top and some glow pikmin come out. Makes me think that it would make those hills even more important to protect because the pikmin inside aren't safe from the creatures like the ones in the onions
When I watched the trailer, I was taken aback by all the callbacks the game had to the other Pikmin games and how it’s taking elements from all previous Pikmin games, but it definitely feels most like a successor to Pikmin 2 with the return of Dungeons (probably will have candypop buds too for white and purple pikmin?) and enemy designs. Pikmin 4 really seems like it’s pushing the series way forward with the night expeditions and while still paying tribute to the old games and old fans. Still not really sure about how I feel about Oatchi but at least it seems like he serves a purpose gameplay wise and doesn’t seem tacked on. Seriously excited for this game, it definitely feels worth waiting a decade for!

Regional onions is an idea I’ve had for a bit, and glad to see it possibly showing up in this game. Regional Pikmin types would be so cool, and this is a step in that direction. Make the player think about how to use the available types effectively
I hope there's an Omin final boss where you're battling him for the final ship part, the Engine. Imagine how tragic it would be for him to be begging to go back home while fighting you for the last part. To see his family...
My personal theory is that olimin is a bulbmin that took over olimar. in the piklopedia from p2, they say bulbmin are parasitic pikmin. Or maybe olimar willingly died on the planet like in p1 because he couldnt take the abuse at work, though that theory is way darker
We actually do get to see items! On the website in the video for 2P co-op it's said the 2P can throw stones and items. When the item inventory is opened we see a bone thing and a pikpik carrot which distracts enemies and electrocutes them when thrown. 3 pikmin types is also confirmed. Whether that means you have access to them all during the day, but can only take out 3, or if you pick 3 at camp before starting the day is unknown though. I'm leaning toward the latter, I'd imagine you slot the colors you want into the onion before setting off and that's why the design is how it is.
Hm, I can't imagine they wouldn't bring back multiple captains, so I guess if the 3 type limit is true, hopefully the captains can have different ones? 🤷🏾♀️
I really wish that you could upgrade the max Pikmin types outside the Onion so you can eventually buy up to 8 types out on the field. It would encourage you to buy more types when you are ready to manage them. If you are at night (so glow Pikmin are around) and bulbmin return, you could possibly have 10 types out at once! 10 pikmin of each type! However, judging by the replies, I doubt that would ever happen :(
@@logansmith2703 the only thing is how he has his original dolphin in some of the promo material. That got sold in the intro of pikmin 2. So that does put a wrench into things. I guess we wont know until we play the game.
I'm very nervous about there potentially being limitations on Pikmin types and stuff because I didn't like Pikmin 2 that much compared to 1 and 3 because they were so restrictive on how you can use Pikmin and this feels like they may potentially be cranking that problem up a few levels. I'm still hopeful though and I plan on getting the game
The naked bulborb is actually a baby bulborb Dwarf bulborbs arent even related to the normal ones, that naked one is the actual baby intermediate phase from grown and larvae
My working theory about the onions is that they split up when you're in the sky and you can choose which three types to bring down for the next day. I originally thought this since the onions is combined like 3, but there's a clear distinction between the types, as if they're not fully fused together. But then you mentioned how there are only three pikmin types in each shot, and I'm suddenly much more confident with this theory...
I would hope that there aren’t limitations on how many pikmin types u can have out. Not only do I think it’s cooler to bring an army of so many different pikmin but it would also make for some annoying back-and-forth trips to the onion and ship depending on how it’s implemented. If it’s area-specific I feel like this would make what’s supposed to be an open world feel too linear as the puzzles would be less varied, as well as reducing the incentive to revisit certain areas.
I never liked the dog concept, but if there is a three types limit then having Oatchi around starts to make a lot more sense. He'd be a way to cover for the types you dont have at the time, perhaps you can bring different Pikmin load-outs to levels with challenges like doing water-heavy stages without Blues forcing you to rely on Oatchi.
I’d prefer being able to take whatever pikmin I want personally, but from a logistical perspective I can understand that. I just hope it’s not the case tho as that feels like a downgrade from the last 2 games.
I don’t know if there’ll be a type limit, but considering how all types are in the game, if the Pikmin limit is still 100 then Oatchi would definitely be good to cover for Pikmin you don’t take with you
It's almost worth noting that maybe olimar found and hosted the parasitic Pikmin that created the bulbmin, as a means of last resort to survive without his suit. But then, the parasite started possibly twisting his mind.
now, if this IS the bad ending of pikmin 1 at play here, then this would be happening near the same time pikmin 2 would be occuring. so in pikmin 5, if we stay on the bad ennig path, alph, brittany, and charlie are coming back.
There's something really surreal about exploring a pristine, clean house, but there are no people. In the original game all of the human technology seemed like old scattered relics from a planet whose humans had gone extinct. But a clean, fully furnished house raises bigger questions. Where IS everyone?
I disagree with the alternate timeline idea. I one of the Pikmin 4 trailers the narrator says, "...As fate would have it Olimar crashed on a mysterious planet." That means that Olimar had to have crashed many times before that.
I might be alone with that opinion, but I personally disslike the man made areas. It's not that it isn't interesting, but I loved the more wild nature vibe pikmin 3 gave off. Especially the beach are where you fight the fat worm thing. Let me go to the beach with my plant frinds 😭
So there are like 3 things that could've happend with Olimar or the Olimar looking person. 1: this takes places after the bad ending of pikmin 1, and this is Olimin. Although in the bad ending Olimar got a black stem rather than a red one, but could be explained by them just chaning this tiny detail. 2: Olimar is alive but has been taken over by some sort of parasitic pikmin or pikmin relative, since bulbmin are bulborbs infected by parasitic pikmin, and candypop buds and maybe creeping chrysanthemums are related to pikmin. So there could be a species of pikmin that don't listen to the whistle and instead attacked olimar making him this sort of puppet. and 3: this is not Olimar but instead a being made by the plasm wraith. In pikmin 3 we see that in the formidable oak all creatures are actually made of plasm wraith goo and don't leave behind a body, and after the crew fly off we see that the plasm wraith still lives. So it could be that the plasm wraith, with it's weird obsession with Olimar, looked at him and decided the best way to get him again is to copy or make a copy of him to lure him back. And the reason it looks like a pikmin is because pikmin are the closest things on the planet that look like olimar, both standing on two legs and having an entenna on top of the head. But because it's been a while since it has seen Olimar it messes up the head but tries to keep it acurate, because with all the red hair or leaves it gives it the rough shape of the helmet, which is one of Olimar's defing features next to his big nose. So to sum up, this new mystery character we see is either a dead Olimar reanimated as a pikmin, Olimar who has been infected by some sort of parasitic pikmin, or the plasm wraith again.
Here me out it is just a pikmin mimicking the greatest leader of the pikmin (the reason he takes cast aways is because he wants the pikmin to be stronger)
I think that the green Oatchi and oliman are both corrupted by the same type of thing that the bulbmin are because they both have leaves oliman on his head and evil Oatchi as his tail so maybe our ultimate goal is to find a cure like olimar was exploring a cave and got curropted by a curse/virus/fungus and we have to free him from it
I definately see the story turning out like we capture olimar and have the parasite removed so we can bring him back to life. The pikmin parasite is honestly the only thing keeping his body alive

That is a Glow Pikmin,it only appears at night on what seems to be sand piles were they live and probably protect themselves from creatures that go very aggressive during the night
I spent most my childhood watching Pikmin 3 and 4 theory videos made on ms paint. From thinking that Pikmin 3 would never happen to now waiting on Pikmin 4 I can say I'm happy this franchise didn't die all those moons ago. However I still want those orange shell Pikmin, if you know you know.
It sounds like my worst fear had come true. Olimar did "die" as he did in the bad ending of Pikmin [1], that's not to say that this is an alternate timeline, no this was foreshadowed in Pikmin 3 with Olimar's note on how dreamt he was carried away in an Onion. I was super relieved that this wasn't the case when the team actually found Olimar at the end of the game. But after I beat the game I realized the golden wraith can make copies of things, organic things, but I told myself Nintendo must have abandoned the idea. The thought occurred to me that they could play this off rather nicely where Olimar's soul has actually been taken from Olimin and placed into the copy, thus Olimar is transformed into a Pikmin without consequence. But the trailer confirms it, Olimar is stuck on the planet doomed to never see his family again while some blissfully unaware copy took his place. THIS IS NOT GOOD. THE BAD ENDING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BAD, A PUNISHMENT FOR POOR PLAY THAT WE SUCCESSFULLY AVOIDED. Use Louie! Why don't you just Pikmifie Louie? He's barely a Hocotation as it is! It would be great.
Maybe the olimin is made by a wraith that explains why he’s stealing castaways because the wraith wants to capture captains and stuff and Olimar is trapped again
I love the house level as with the still fresh tomatoes, running electricity, and other such items, PNF-404 isn’t a post apocalyptic earth, it’s just normal earth with people/humans still alive on it just with some fucked up bugs.
My personal theory on the strange olimar character in this game is that since at the end of pikmin 3 deluxe theres a whole olimar side mode where him and louie are sent back to PNF 404, (assuming this is the same planet) in a one way pod. (at least that's what it looked like) So my theory is that since im assuming the damn company he works for never bothered to bring him back, he's been living off the land and possibly got parasitized by the pikmin. (like the bulbmin) Or he simply wears it so he can hide at night and the dog thats similar to Oatchi might just be native to the planet. I wouldn't know what happened to Louie but given he immediately got involved with the titan Dweevil in pikmin 2 after being left behind, he may be dead or just ran off never to be seen again, but maybe we'll find out about that as we continue through this game. Personally I'd say probably the side story or half main story of this game is finding out more about this individual and why hes stealing the castaways since olimar was typically pretty tame in terms of his personality, as we see in past games and unless this is Olimar driven mad by living in the wild for god knows how long, the dialogue doesn't match his character. (im referring to when hes talking before the battle mode thing) so hopefully this is either someone else maybe a relative of Olimar (maybe his son depending on what time this game takes place)or olimar living among the wilderness and driven bonkers due to lack of social interaction. Worse case scenario its Pikmin Bad ending Olimar which would uproot the entire continuity of the pikmin timeline but then again we need to see how the game pans out and if it eludes to such. (such as it starting with "in another time on another planet" or something small during a cutscene that gives us some form of date that puts it before or after the games weve seen previously) Long story short hopefully this is someone who coincidentally looks like Olimar and not Olimar turned into a Pikmin from the bad ending of pikmin 1.
There not non cannon they just weren't discovered in the original timeline it's the same as both Pikmin games come from 1s timeline any Pikmin in one timeline are automatically cannon in both
pikmin has a unique opportunity to adapt itself to some of aesops fables here idk why they don't, it would be legendary to jusy come across a toy set of a frog and a scorpion and having to figure out how to get them both across a river without the scorpion putting a hole in the frog because of its springy tail and that would tie in to a random quest maybe fond memories of childhood playing with those toys for one of the crew which would prompt him to give you something else of value in exchange for getting those back. pikmin could even adapt boss fights or overarching aesop fables to the story in very tangible ways that would prod anyone whose read some of them to look at it with investigative eye and immediately recognize that yes indeed its a reference and its going to play out in a uniquely pikmen way.
the final boss could be controlling olimar thats why olimar took the castaway the same way the plasm wraith wanted olimar we could get answers about the plasm wraith
I don't think it's an alternate timeline Olimar fails to get his ship parts maybe he crashed his ship again and somehow got infected by something that's my guess

I really wish that you could upgrade the max Pikmin types outside the Onion so you can eventually buy up to 8 types out on the field. It would encourage you to buy more types when you are ready to manage them. If you are at night (so glow Pikmin are around) and bulbmin return, you could possibly have 10 types out at once! 10 pikmin of each type! However, judging by the replies, I doubt that would ever happen :(

@@logansmith2703 the only thing is how he has his original dolphin in some of the promo material. That got sold in the intro of pikmin 2. So that does put a wrench into things. I guess we wont know until we play the game.
I'm very nervous about there potentially being limitations on Pikmin types and stuff because I didn't like Pikmin 2 that much compared to 1 and 3 because they were so restrictive on how you can use Pikmin and this feels like they may potentially be cranking that problem up a few levels. I'm still hopeful though and I plan on getting the game

My working theory about the onions is that they split up when you're in the sky and you can choose which three types to bring down for the next day. I originally thought this since the onions is combined like 3, but there's a clear distinction between the types, as if they're not fully fused together. But then you mentioned how there are only three pikmin types in each shot, and I'm suddenly much more confident with this theory...

I would hope that there aren’t limitations on how many pikmin types u can have out. Not only do I think it’s cooler to bring an army of so many different pikmin but it would also make for some annoying back-and-forth trips to the onion and ship depending on how it’s implemented. If it’s area-specific I feel like this would make what’s supposed to be an open world feel too linear as the puzzles would be less varied, as well as reducing the incentive to revisit certain areas.

I never liked the dog concept, but if there is a three types limit then having Oatchi around starts to make a lot more sense. He'd be a way to cover for the types you dont have at the time, perhaps you can bring different Pikmin load-outs to levels with challenges like doing water-heavy stages without Blues forcing you to rely on Oatchi.
I’d prefer being able to take whatever pikmin I want personally, but from a logistical perspective I can understand that. I just hope it’s not the case tho as that feels like a downgrade from the last 2 games.
I don’t know if there’ll be a type limit, but considering how all types are in the game, if the Pikmin limit is still 100 then Oatchi would definitely be good to cover for Pikmin you don’t take with you

It's almost worth noting that maybe olimar found and hosted the parasitic Pikmin that created the bulbmin, as a means of last resort to survive without his suit. But then, the parasite started possibly twisting his mind.
now, if this IS the bad ending of pikmin 1 at play here, then this would be happening near the same time pikmin 2 would be occuring. so in pikmin 5, if we stay on the bad ennig path, alph, brittany, and charlie are coming back.
There's something really surreal about exploring a pristine, clean house, but there are no people. In the original game all of the human technology seemed like old scattered relics from a planet whose humans had gone extinct. But a clean, fully furnished house raises bigger questions. Where IS everyone?

I disagree with the alternate timeline idea. I one of the Pikmin 4 trailers the narrator says, "...As fate would have it Olimar crashed on a mysterious planet." That means that Olimar had to have crashed many times before that.
I might be alone with that opinion, but I personally disslike the man made areas. It's not that it isn't interesting, but I loved the more wild nature vibe pikmin 3 gave off. Especially the beach are where you fight the fat worm thing. Let me go to the beach with my plant frinds 😭
So there are like 3 things that could've happend with Olimar or the Olimar looking person.
1: this takes places after the bad ending of pikmin 1, and this is Olimin. Although in the bad ending Olimar got a black stem rather than a red one, but could be explained by them just chaning this tiny detail.
2: Olimar is alive but has been taken over by some sort of parasitic pikmin or pikmin relative, since bulbmin are bulborbs infected by parasitic pikmin, and candypop buds and maybe creeping chrysanthemums are related to pikmin. So there could be a species of pikmin that don't listen to the whistle and instead attacked olimar making him this sort of puppet.
and 3: this is not Olimar but instead a being made by the plasm wraith. In pikmin 3 we see that in the formidable oak all creatures are actually made of plasm wraith goo and don't leave behind a body, and after the crew fly off we see that the plasm wraith still lives. So it could be that the plasm wraith, with it's weird obsession with Olimar, looked at him and decided the best way to get him again is to copy or make a copy of him to lure him back. And the reason it looks like a pikmin is because pikmin are the closest things on the planet that look like olimar, both standing on two legs and having an entenna on top of the head. But because it's been a while since it has seen Olimar it messes up the head but tries to keep it acurate, because with all the red hair or leaves it gives it the rough shape of the helmet, which is one of Olimar's defing features next to his big nose.
So to sum up, this new mystery character we see is either a dead Olimar reanimated as a pikmin, Olimar who has been infected by some sort of parasitic pikmin, or the plasm wraith again.
Here me out it is just a pikmin mimicking the greatest leader of the pikmin (the reason he takes cast aways is because he wants the pikmin to be stronger)

It sounds like my worst fear had come true. Olimar did "die" as he did in the bad ending of Pikmin [1], that's not to say that this is an alternate timeline, no this was foreshadowed in Pikmin 3 with Olimar's note on how dreamt he was carried away in an Onion. I was super relieved that this wasn't the case when the team actually found Olimar at the end of the game. But after I beat the game I realized the golden wraith can make copies of things, organic things, but I told myself Nintendo must have abandoned the idea.
The thought occurred to me that they could play this off rather nicely where Olimar's soul has actually been taken from Olimin and placed into the copy, thus Olimar is transformed into a Pikmin without consequence.
But the trailer confirms it, Olimar is stuck on the planet doomed to never see his family again while some blissfully unaware copy took his place. THIS IS NOT GOOD. THE BAD ENDING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BAD, A PUNISHMENT FOR POOR PLAY THAT WE SUCCESSFULLY AVOIDED. Use Louie! Why don't you just Pikmifie Louie? He's barely a Hocotation as it is! It would be great.

Why don’t people think Olimar went back to the planet after Pikmin 3 and ended up a staying?
My personal theory on the strange olimar character in this game is that since at the end of pikmin 3 deluxe theres a whole olimar side mode where him and louie are sent back to PNF 404, (assuming this is the same planet) in a one way pod. (at least that's what it looked like) So my theory is that since im assuming the damn company he works for never bothered to bring him back, he's been living off the land and possibly got parasitized by the pikmin. (like the bulbmin) Or he simply wears it so he can hide at night and the dog thats similar to Oatchi might just be native to the planet. I wouldn't know what happened to Louie but given he immediately got involved with the titan Dweevil in pikmin 2 after being left behind, he may be dead or just ran off never to be seen again, but maybe we'll find out about that as we continue through this game. Personally I'd say probably the side story or half main story of this game is finding out more about this individual and why hes stealing the castaways since olimar was typically pretty tame in terms of his personality, as we see in past games and unless this is Olimar driven mad by living in the wild for god knows how long, the dialogue doesn't match his character. (im referring to when hes talking before the battle mode thing) so hopefully this is either someone else maybe a relative of Olimar (maybe his son depending on what time this game takes place)or olimar living among the wilderness and driven bonkers due to lack of social interaction. Worse case scenario its Pikmin Bad ending Olimar which would uproot the entire continuity of the pikmin timeline but then again we need to see how the game pans out and if it eludes to such. (such as it starting with "in another time on another planet" or something small during a cutscene that gives us some form of date that puts it before or after the games weve seen previously) Long story short hopefully this is someone who coincidentally looks like Olimar and not Olimar turned into a Pikmin from the bad ending of pikmin 1.

There not non cannon they just weren't discovered in the original timeline it's the same as both Pikmin games come from 1s timeline any Pikmin in one timeline are automatically cannon in both

pikmin has a unique opportunity to adapt itself to some of aesops fables here idk why they don't, it would be legendary to jusy come across a toy set of a frog and a scorpion and having to figure out how to get them both across a river without the scorpion putting a hole in the frog because of its springy tail and that would tie in to a random quest maybe fond memories of childhood playing with those toys for one of the crew which would prompt him to give you something else of value in exchange for getting those back. pikmin could even adapt boss fights or overarching aesop fables to the story in very tangible ways that would prod anyone whose read some of them to look at it with investigative eye and immediately recognize that yes indeed its a reference and its going to play out in a uniquely pikmen way.
