  • Nibs Series - This video takes a look at how the steel nibs in the Pelikan M200/M205 series write. I take a side by side comparison look at the EF, F, M and B nibs. I hope this helps you if you are looking to get an idea before buying one or two?
This pen and the nibs were kindly loaned to be by Ross and his team at Purepens.co.uk, I have no affiliation other than receiving good service.

Most useful Pelikan nib comparison and demonstration. You helped me to decide what size of nib I should get!

When I've dipped pens into ink, I've found the results aren't the same as when the ink flows through the feed. Although it would be more time consuming, not dipping the nibs would give more accurate results. Thanks for doing this video, though.

Excellent video, very informative; you should consider adding the italics/stubs and the BB (and BBB - if you can get hold of one) nib to the comparison!
I have the BB (on a M205) and it pours ink like there's no tomorrow! Just love it!

You did a great job on that video! I have been looking all over TH-cam for a video comparing the Pelikan m205 nibs. I want the Olivine, Smoky Quartz, and Aquamarine (with matching inks of course). Your video gave me just what I needed to make up my mind on the nib to get. I am a stub nib fan all the way, which severely limits the pens available to me without significant compromise, but I think I can buy these pens with confidence. My wallet curses you, but I love you. BTW, I have to say, you navigate with your nails like a pro; and the color is great! Thank you!

Like you, I tend to go with finer lines because I don't like how the broad and medium nibs make my handwriting look. I used to only write with medium points, but then I noticed that I was happier with a line closer to an average gel pen and so I switched over to fine points and extra fine points ever since. They're just way more practical for every day usage.

These (of course) are modern steel nibs. I have a Pelikan M200 (old style) with a Fine nib - it's a semi-flex; & whilst the later counterparts are incredibly good, nothing beats a vintage nib - steel or gold; ultimately, it depends what you're looking for in the finished result. Any way you write it, Pelikan have some of the best nibs on the market - but that's a personal take - I'm somewhat biased because I love the brand. Thank you for the comparitive :)

  • @paulll47

Extra fine is the way to go if you have to use these for work, I love signing with my M200 but anything other than the EF is too wet for the often cheap paper I have to use at work.

Thanks a lot that really helped me I am a big fan of Pelikan FP I got the M800 and was wondering how its compared to the m200 and the 400s and I want to buy one but wasn't really sure it will be the same experience as the gold ones.
This really helped thank you again :)

Enjoyed the vidio - very useful. It would have been useful to know how wet the nibs were, how stiff or spingy are they and if they show any line variation.

The Medium is smooth, but way too broad for a medium. Why can't they make the F one just as smooth?

any chance you can show the difference in line veriation when using some pressure on each nib size, it would make a good extra information and i say every pen nut loves watch flex regardles of gold or steel nibs. haha just a suggestion

Thank you very much for posting this; your video is very informative. I hope you can post a nib comparison of 18k Pelikan gold nibs.
How much is the difference between the medium and a broad? I'm interested in buying 2 M8xx pens and I'm trying to decide if I'll get 2 medium nibs, or 1 in medium and 1 in broad. I hope you can give me some advice. Thank you very much.

    • @paulirineomontano5074

would the broad 18k nibs still be good for everyday writing?

    • @RuthHansonThePenandInkwell
      @RuthHansonThePenandInkwell  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Honestly, I wouldn't as my handwriting is quite small and I prefer my handwriting fine an EF or fine nib. Many do use broad nibs and swear by them. I am in a minority preferring EF nibs.
