Cross-Country Road Trip 2024 Kickoff! Orlando to Destin: Hotel, Beach, Dinner & Our Plans

- It’s the first day of our brand new cross country road trip adventure, and we’re bringing you along for the whole thing! We’re driving from Florida to California, and seeing so many sites along the way! On day one, we head out from our home of Orlando, Florida, and head to the beach town of Destin, in the Florida panhandle. We cross out first time zone change, check in and show you our hotel room (with some weirdness), and head down to the beach to enjoy the soft white sand, dinner at the iconic restaurant, The Back Porch, and sunset views! I also talk a bit about this trip, what you can expect (something different every vlog), and the planning process (aka the spreadsheet lol!). How Amazing. Love the idea, always been on my bucket list. We are heading in our first cruise in 2 hours. Adventures for both of us! I forgot to housekeeping was most likely listening to the tv, lol
Hate you had to see our beach when the waves were rolling. Normally it’s like the Caribbean water. Beautiful, clear and calm. Come back in the summer. :)

I drove from FLA (born & raised) to CA in Jan 1980 for new job & living. Drove back to FLA from CA in Dec 2007 !
It was very exciting & enjoyable road trip. Currently 70yo & live in St. Augustine.

Opps! I'm a day late (and probably a dollar short, as the old saying goes). Jackie, the bridge you crossed over was The Midbay Bridge. To the left of the marina at the end of the brige was a restaurant called Lou Lou's. She is Jimmy Buffett's sister. She has some more locations too. You and Sam have just experienced the Emerald Coast with the white sugary sand beaches. They are that way from Pensacola to just east of Panama City. Sorry it was so windy. Ya'll would have really enjoyed it a lot more without all that wind. Sometimes the wind does die down at night. Maybe ya'll can come back again. Give a heads up next time. I live about 40 miles NNW of Destin. You may possibly have came through my hometown of Crestview if you got on I10 westbound when you left Destin to head to your next destination. I would love to meet you guys. You picked a great restaurant. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. I'm so excited to hang with ya'll. Have fun and be safe. My three trips to Florida have never gone beyond Orlando and the theme parks, mainly Universal. However your videos have definitely made me interested in exploring the rest of the state, especially the Keys and Destin. Can’t wait to see the rest of this cross country road trip!

Hey, You’re in my neck of the woods! Love Destin! My daughter & I also love driving 30A. Best when it’s off season though! The little beach towns, Seaside & Rosemary are just so quaint & beautiful. Safe travels!

Destin is great destination as part of a road trip....there is never a bad day at the beach...rain, shine, cold, hot whatever....never been to the Back Porch but busy ALL THE TIME...🙂
Aww bummer. Wish I knew you and Sam were coming this way. I live just outside Destin and would've loved to have treated you guys to dinner. The Back Porch is one of our favorite places as well. We shoot all kinds of footage in Destin for our channel as well. Glad you enjoyed our beaches...some of the best in the country.

The Pan Handle is a beautiful place. We have a condo in PCB and hopefully one day we can be there full time. You get used to the wind, it dies down as the Summer comes on. Nothing like it anywhere! Excited to travel with you!

Safe travels. My wife and i road trip from Ohio to Florida a couple times a year. I like to take different routes and explore different areas on our way down. My bucket list includes a road trip from coast to coast. Starting with the feet in the Atlantic and ending with my toes in the Pacific. I love road tripping. Hope you have a great trip. Safe Travels!

Starting a road trip with a bang in Dustin.
Last summer we took a cross country trip from Indiana to Oregon. We had such a blast! Definitely need to plan way in advance, but like you said, keep it open to adventure!
Yesssss the rental car was a great idea! Road trips are so much more fun when you don’t have to worry about racking the mileage up on the cars that you actually own. 😂 I don’t know if I knew that there were towns and locales in Florida that exist in the Central time zone! The beach looked beautiful, though I’m sorry about the sand in your eyes. Those beach breezes can be a gift and a curse lol but it did look pretty cool blowing ripples into the sand, though! Sam is also a much braver man than I, facing that water. There’s always bumps in the road when you’re traveling (see any given Griswold vacation as exhibit A), but I’m sure that whatever lies ahead of you will be amazing and we can’t wait to follow along! Movin’ right along daga-dun-daga-dun 🎶

I love that you have done this kind of travel. I would love if we could do that with our dog sometime. At least some part of the travel. I must admit there is something exhilarating about taking a road trip.
So many more places were dog friendly than I expected!! But yea, not everywhere so it would take some extra planning, but can def be done. It really is exhilarating, and the memories you carry with you forever!
