    I didn’t like how Windhorst criticized without providing any context to Lukas injuries. If you’ve actually played sports on any level you’d realize it’s nearly impossible to play basketball with an injured knee and this guys dropping 30 a game in the finals and also playing injured since round 1. I don’t think Windy has ever done anything remotely athletic in his life that’s what’s infuriating.

      But that's the thing. Did Luka magically heal from his injuries since Wednesday? Because he looked far more engaged than in the previous 3 games. If anything you'd expect him to look worse because of the short layoff between Game 3 and 4. Luka does have injuries, but that doesn't excuse some of the lack of effort and mistakes he made defensively over the first 3 games of the serious. He looked far better and showed more effort and poise in game 3 and I bet that has to do more with him being criticized and putting pride into being a 2 way player, rather than him magically becoming healthier.

    • @KevinThomes
      @KevinThomes 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@ducksgo2375 This lack of defense has been way overblown. Luka still had the highest += on the team for game 3. There for sure 3 or 4 times he cost them points complaining. But his overall defense has been on par with anyone on the Celtics not named Holiday or White.

    • @ducksgo2375
      @ducksgo2375 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KevinThomes Yes and a lot of that has to do with his offense. He was a -4 overall between game 1-3 which was 10 higher than the next closest player. To say that he is the reason they are losing is wrong. But to be critical of his defense is fine and justified. He could have been +10 - +20 if he had more intensity on defense like he did in game 4. Most times his offense masks his defense. And if we are being honest, Brown and Tatum's defense are better overall. The reason why the +/- is higher for Luka is because Tatum is a choker (and this is coming from a Celtics fan). He will shoot 26 shots and only make 10 (half of which are contested and should be passed). Tatum's willingness to shoot low % shots allows defenses to gain confidence and go on runs, especially when he plays "iso"-ball.

    • @nikoshred2922
      @nikoshred2922 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ducksgo2375 no he didn’t heal, he is injured and playing compromised. It’s fair to criticize him but it’s also disingenuous to say his defense is the only reason why his team is losing when he’s carrying a majority of the scoring burden with multiple injuries and none of his team mates had stepped up. It’s unfair to show multiple highlights of his defense and say he’s the reason his team is losing the series without providing any context to his team mates not making shots + his injuries. No excuse for his attitude toward the refs and fouling out but let’s see anyone try to play with a knee injury in a pickup game let alone an NBA finals - it’s easy to pass judgement from the couch.

      @@leonardo_mrll If he is getting blown by at almost a 70% rate on drives to the hoop, that IS a problem. That is a historical problem and is why Tatum had 12 assists in game 2 because other teammates had to crash the paint to protect leaving Celtics on the perimeter wide open for 3 point shots. Regardless of whether the media overstated his defensive capabilities, the Celtics found his weakness and even Jason Kidd said after game 3 that Luka "had a target on his back" meaning the Celtics were going directly after him. The difference is, Luka's offensive production normally outweighed his defensive struggles; and that is seen with his -4 over the first 3 games compared to the next closest teammate at -14. However, Luka looked far more engaged in game 4 and it proved to make a huge difference on the result. Also, if Luka "IS THE OFFENSE" putting yourself in a position with 5 fouls to foul out like he did in Game 3 = a detriment to the team. Availability is important which his lack of defensive effort in Game 3 lead to him getting fouled out.

      His defense has been poor in the Celtics series yeah but 2 things people are completely ignoring:
      1. His defense has been great all playoffs, having 1 series where hes playing bad defense doesn't make him a "terrible defender" and, as you mentioned, he is banged up which makes it hard.
      2. This is the more important point, the Mavs gameplan has literally been for them to FUNNEL the players that drive at the basket towards their centers, they literally intentionally get blown by and have been all playoffs. The reason its so bad against the Celtics is because the centers aren't ready in the paint to stop a driving Tatum or Brown because they're forced to stay on 3pt shooters.
      J.Kidd is the one that's vastly more to blame for this than the individual players, hes glacially slow at adapting gameplans to the situation, thankfully their gameplans worked up until the Celtics so he never had to but Game 2 and 3 were extremely winnable with good coaching yet there was none to be had.
      I was on the edge of tearing my hair out in game 3 when they kept making Kyrie/Luka go iso over and over and take tough shots when they had a wide open paint since Porzingis is out, there isn't a player on the Celtics that can consistently stop a Gafford/Lively in the paint.

It's like they just completely ignore everything else he has done because of a single bad game (in which he was still 27/6/6, mind you). He's been considerably better on defense this season compared to past seasons, which they also ignore. Blaming Luka for Dallas' shortcomings is nothing short of lunacy

      Yeah, its also a matter of the Mavs not performing to the level expected of them.
      The reason Luka has been a bad defender for years is because he WAS the Mavs offense, if he doesn't give it 110% on the offense the Mavs were dead in the water for years.
      It's only after the PJ/Gafford trade that they became able to outrebound teams and score in the paint consistently, that lessened the load on Luka A LOT and he started improving at defense at a rapid pace.
      Now in the finals you have the roleplayers playing badly for 3 games (which was expected, they're roleplayers in their first finals) but the killshot was Kyrie being a complete no show in game 1 and 2, Mavs reverted back to their "Luka scores everything or we're screwed" playstyle off the back of TERRIBLE coaching from Kidd.

    Even if his defense isn’t the best, he’s still putting up like half of their fuckin point. Kyrie was shitting the bed horrifically on offense for most of the series and the rest of the team is entirely nonexistent on offense. It may as well be a 2v5 out there. Frankly, it’s a miracle that luka carried them this far. He’s not getting enough credit, especially when he’s been injured during the last two series

    A major factor I never hear anyone talk about is the significant greater amount of fatigue Dallas (especially Luka) had to incur compared to the Boston Celtics. Luka has been looking gassed out in the fourth quarter, while the Celtics don't really look like they're breaking a sweat.

      I see how some might feel that way honestly, but to me it’s not the refs it’s more just strategy. I think Jason Kidd made good adjustments this game and gave more playing time to some players. I think this is the balance they needed from the beginning, they became too Luka ball dominant, which seems to be what the Celtics want. Pretty much make Dallas play slow and make them one dimensional with Luka being ball dominant, but this game Dallas didn’t fall into that habit and actually played with pace. Now the adjustments move to the Celtics and we’ll see Monday.

    3:0 doesn't matter. If you step off the crazy train now, you can't call yourself a Mavs fan. It's not about stats, facts or odds, it's about belief.
    Noone believed we'd beat the Clippers except "crazy delusional Mavs fans."
    Noone believed we'd beat no1 seed, OKC, except "crazy delusional Mavs fans."
    Noone believed we'd beat the team that just wasted the reigning champions, Wolves, except "crazy delusional Mavs fans".
    Now noone believes we can do the impossible and return from a 3:0 hole, except "crazy delusional Mavs fans."
    It was always a pipe dream. Nothing changed. We believe because we are fans. Mavs are already champions in our eyes, achieving more than anyone believed possible. We are beating insurmountable odds all playoffs, so when it comes to an impossible task of beating a 3:0 hole, why not us?

He still sucks on defense and the rest of the Mavs are still mid too with the exception of Kyrie. That Celtics team clearly came into the game and decided they weren’t going to put in any effort on either side of the ball. This wasn’t good Dallas defense. It was a team that said “we’re up 3, so let’s just take a game off.” I’m not giving Dallas credit for shit when this was the laziest and most disgusting game that I’ve seen any team in the NBA play all year as far as not giving an ounce of energy and being completely disengaged. I would say there needs to be a little context added to your statement though. The Celtics were up by 21 at 10 minutes in the 4th and then came out and did what they always do which is "prevent offense". Basically waste time on the clock and finish the game. If the Celtics continued playing like they did the entire game, they score 120+ points, but by having Payton Pritchard (7th option on Celtics) chuck up 3 straight shots as time expires isn't a recipe of success. The Mavs defense was far better in this game, but I think it has as much to do with the Celtics mindset. When they are up (whether in a game or series), they relax and that costs them. Then they open the flood gates and have no idea how to stop it. The Celtics do this all the time where they will find a recipe for success and then just go into "Iso" ball at random times which destroys the momentum of the offense.

He wasn't trying to flop, he wasn't screaming at the refs, and on several drives he got his chest in front of the offensive player which forced them to either pass out and restart or lose possession. In addition, a lot of it is their defense that has been losing them these games. Regardless of whether the offensive players can't score consistently. Allowing nearly 70% drive byes in a single game leads other defenders to have to crash the paint in support, leaving offensive players with open shots on the perimeter. By stopping those drives you allow your team to defend the perimeter better and ultimately play better defense. Even Jason Kidd said Luka "has a target on him" because of how often he was targeted in the series on iso's and drive and shoots.

    I wouldn't say he exposed Brian. In his rant on SportsCenter, Brian was 100,000% factual. Luka shouldn't have put himself in that position to foul out. He had 5 fouls and chose to get in front of Jaylen Brown, the most aggressive driver the Celtics have. Then he yelled at his bench to challenge, even though it was the definition of a blocking foul.
    He drew 4 fouls in 7 minutes of game time. He foul batied on a 3pt attempt and then layed on the ground giving up points on the other end. He complained constantly whenever he could.
    I knew he had a reputation of complaining, but I didn't know it was this bad since we don't play the Mavs too much and I don't watch teams besides my own. But, lord, I understand why people call him a crybaby and was happy he fouled out since his complaining was driving me insane despite how much I admire Luka as a player, since, again, I don't watch him the same way I watch the Celtics.
    He had a really good game and didn't even have to think about complaining since he was getting whistles like a woman being catcalled by construction workers. @@jccwell excuses, if he is that hurt don’t play. That is the ONLY time bringing up injuries is acceptable. He didn’t look hurt and it wasn’t mentioned last night when he was having a good game. You lame trying to throw that out there, Luka hadn’t been the star he needed to be before that game.

    firstly who cares about reporter opinions, but secondly Windhorst making it personal is just an attempt from a guy who is obviously a fan of Luka trying to essentially say what he wishes Jason Kidd would say. Hes just doing what he needs to do to unlock super saiyan Luka. Its not an attack its 100% obviously a mind game to get him going and it worked.

    Never TRUST the media period. They are the greatest floppers. They were talking great things about the Mavs and Luka before the finals now he’s not a winner?

    I've seen a few unimaginable comebacks before in my lifetime so it's definitely possible. I saw the Red Sox become the first team in baseball to come back down 0-3 to win against the Yankees in '03 or 04 and then went on to win the world series. I also remember watching the Patriots vs Falcons in the Super Bowl down 28-3 with 2:08 seconds left in the 3rd. They flashed the win probability of ATL on the top of the screen at 99.98%. So yeah it aint over till it's over. There will be a team that eventually comes back down 0-3 in the NBA playoffs. Boston almost did it themselves last year vs MIA

    Honestly, if his team mates showed up and consistently joins the party just like team mates of Tatum and Brown, it should be 3-1 for Dallas. When Luka team mates other tgan Kyrie makes their shots and play their potential. Nobody can stop the duo of Luka and Kyrie. Celtics made it a point to not involve luka team mate by making it hard for them to make their shots. Chuck was right his team mates should play their best to offset the defense made by celtics.

    To me it sounds like luka listened to his criticism. Whining to the refs constantly while his team plays 4v5 is a problem, and shows a lack of maturity. And it's holding him back. Also getting blown by...although I don't know if he can ever improve that much

    Whether Dallas makes it or not, Luka is still thee best player in the NBA Finals and NBA right now. The Celtics just have the deeper team with at least 4 to 5 all stars in Brown, Tatum, White, Porzingis and Holiday.

    LUKA leads the FINALS in steals and has more steals per game than TATUM and BROWN together
    HE also leads the play-offs on STEALS , DEFENSIVE WINSHARES and DEFENSIVE REBOUNDS.
    LUKA also leads the play-offs in PTS / REB / ASS / STL / WINSHARES
    GAME 3 MAVS with LUKA +9
    MAVS without LUKA on the floor -16 ..
    SO how was his defence that made them lose??? how can he play defence from the bench.
