How much temper did you loose grinding in the design. Should have been done before the heat treat
Pardon me if I am wrong, but trying to heat treat a thin edge is going to be a big problem in keeping the heat flow even.
@@johngraesser4911 depending on how you heat treat and how careful you do it. thin blades tough but grinding a thin blade after heat treat has the problem of building up heat very quickly when grinding. I know I have screwed up blades that way. and also heat treating them thin.

Nice one indeed. I'm curious. Just a question. In what solution did you put the blade in? To give it that darken/matte look.
Other videos where he uses the same solution show it as being Ferric Chloride (known also as Iron (III) Chloride), a chemical commonly used to etch steel and copper. Different iron alloys produce different colors ranging from nearly silver to dark grey depending on metal and carbon content. This chemical is also used to expose the different kinds of steel in a pattern welded piece (also called Damascus steel, though this is technically a misnomer since Damascus steel was produced in medieval Damascus and is not a well understood composite currently). Hope this helps.

@@CubeKnot you speak of patern welded steel. True dimascus otherwise known as wootz steel is the ancient one.
@@omgbbqwtfrafl Yep, that's I said. Damascus steel was made in medieval Damscus and cannot currently be made since we don't know how they did it.
Good ol' ferric chloride... If you want something similar you could go with some selenium dioxide for that gun blue effect.
