An important aspect if the app is that it measures the acoustic response of the drumhead with a microphone, I.e. without having to come into contact with the drumhead., so there is no risk of the analysis actually changing the response properties of the drum. The app does take a short while to process the recording because a full second of data is required to ensure an accurate frequency measurement, though we are hoping to speed this up in a future update. We are also testing additional algori

hi yes it works on iPod touch 3rd, 4th and 5th generation - if you go to our website and follow the link to the apple page it details all the supported devices. happy tuning!

Hiya - yeah the app already will measure the frequencies at the lugs. Just hold and hit at the lug and hey presto the lug frequency is measured! So you can use it to clear the drumhead too - but that's for another video... :)

I've had this app for a few weeks and it's great for ballparking your drums arfter head changes or just making sure then heads are tuned evenly. Also proved that my ears are pretty good and that they were pretty close withoput. Really handy in noisy bars as there is no interrearance from background noise when sampling the drum due to the nature of the mic in the device. Well worth the very small amount of money that it costs.

An external mic (more directional than the one at the bottom of the iPhone) can be used with an iPhone and used for tuning each lug. The obligatory question is, does the iDrumTune app (now iDrumTune Pro, $6.99 as of August 2019 via Apple App store) and the plug in directional mic for the iPhone cost less than a Tune-Bot?

Bronze Brett the iPhone mic is extremely high quality and is more than sufficient to accurately measure drum frequencies. Apple put a huge amount of research and development into making the mic as high spec as possible, and essentially it’s a £1000 device, so is a very professional piece of kit. Given their economy of scale, it’s impossible to make any bespoke hardware to as high a standard within a sensible price range. So all you need is the iPhone and the app and you have a high quality acoustics analyser (drum tuner) there in your pocket!

@@bobtoulson Thank you. I will try my iPhone 8+ alone with the app. The Tune-Bot Studio is $99-$135 on eBay, overpriced anyway.

What is the bottom head tuning for this video

I'd like to see it tune the lugs. This person didn't REALLY tune the drum since the lugs are likely at different pitches and the drum won't sound good.

he says below it will do lugs if you hold it next to em.

Well it helped this noob tune his drums. :-) I'd been struggling to get a decent sound out of my snare, I tuned it to a high A, both heads then cleared it by ear. The important thing for me was both getting it tuned somewhere around where it needed to be and getting both heads to pretty much the same frequency. I have a great sounding snare now.
I did, from time to time, get wildly different frequencies when there shouldn't have been. Any thoughts on that?

+Josue Solano thats one way to do it, and there is a few other way, there is no rule on tuning as long is it sound good, thats my opinion.

You might wear the rim out if you don't tune the opposite peg.

yeah nah. theres definitely a reason as to why you gotta use opposite pegs.

    I usually tune 12' tom to G... 100Hz..

    • @makke_macro
      @makke_macro 10 ปีที่แล้ว

it depends about drum it self for what frequencies its made. my pdp 12' tom sounds it's best at 125-130hz
but usually i tune it to 115hz and fix bad vibrations and foul sound with moongel

Ok it's not that tough to tune drums. Part of your roll as a drummer is to have a ear for sound right?? On the other hand we are in a just google it or app it world now.

darrell kline lmao. No dude drumming is about the beat not the tune. Your comment could be said for gyitars or ANY instrument who need to worry more about sound and tuning than a drummer will any day of the week hands down no argument. other instruments use tuners all the time. There is no problem in using a tuner for drumming to get to the exact tune your band mates have tuned to. Your comment makes me shake my head and realize some people just don’t know what drumming is about. Why should a drummer be better at tuning than anyone else. That is not the focus of drumming. The focus of drumming is TIME KEEPING. Doyyyy

hell no. i didnt learn much at all about pitch till i picked up bass. your ear isnt going to be perfect straight up, especially if you only play drums. it takes years of ear training to learn this shit by ear

You need a good pair of ears (and brains), otherwise buy a drum computer :P
