Most community members at Newton in Wellington, in the Boland, have heeded the call to evacuate their homes amid the heavy rains that have lashed the Western Cape this week. The Drakenstein Municipality has urged evacuated residents to stay with family and friends. The municipality's engineers and dam specialists have warned of the possibility of the farm dam in the Bo-Dal area bursting its banks. The community of Newton lives downstream.
