AVGN #20: “Atari 5200” - Reaction

- I react to AVGN reviewing the Atari 5200 video game console. To be completely honest, I thought Atari was kind of a one-hit wonder. The Atari 2600 was truly revolutionary, one of a kind, and dominated the gaming industry. Well, for the most part (*cough cough* E.T. *cough cough*). But seeing a “sequel” console to the original is pretty cool. Right?...right? Eh, who am I kidding, it’s an AVGN video, the console is probably gonna suck just as bad as all the previous games on this show did. But you should get used to it at this point.

James probably didn't realize at the time that you literally have to jam your finger into the start button on the controllers to actually work.
The 5200 was only on the market about 2 years, and never even released outside North America. It's really just an Atari 800 computer with some slight modifications, the games are actually identical on both platforms. The biggest problem was the build quality of the controller. The contact points on the board would oxidize preventing the controller from registering a button press. The joystick was also overengineered, the analogue feature actually hindering precision and it's prone to breaking.

You can also plug an Atari controller into the Genesis and it’ll work. I’ve actually beaten Sonic 2 with it.

No, I’m not from that area. My family took many trips to Chicago, and during our most recent one, I got this hat as a souvenir at the Willis Tower, and I’ve been wearing it in my videos ever since.

@@tristangillam8521 I’ll try to sum it up the best way I can. So, basically, and iceberg image is a series of facts about a particular series laid on in different rows, all superimposed over an image of an iceberg. The different points on the iceberg have a different level of obscurity depending where it’s placed. The higher a point is, the more common and well-known it is, and the lower a point is, the more obscure and mysterious it is. If you want an amazing example of how these Iceberg videos work, I HIGHLY recommend watching Mish Koz’s video on the Super Mario 64 Iceberg. But, anyway, I’ve always loved these videos ever since I watch the Super Mario 64 one, and I’ve always wanted to do one myself! I’m currently starting editing on that video, so it might arrive in about a month, I would say. I’m glad you’re furious on the subject, and I can’t wait for you to see it!
