This was the very first episode i watched. My college game design teacher showed this to us in class for educational purposes. He said "we're not showing him too much cuz he's inappropriate". He legit even let us play games in class too.

Despite how crude and primitive it is by today's standards, and even the standards of the days when the games James reviews were common, the Odyssey was revolutionary for its time. Just the ability alone to move and interact with images on your TV screen aside from using the remote was unheard of before the Odyssey. So despite what James said, I respect the Odyssey for what it started.

Now that I think about it, you're right. I mean it was the early 70's and they probably didn't have the equipment or the know-how at the time to put graphics on the screen. But it got the ball rolling for other games. And that people had fun with it. At least James did clearly.

Who else is psyched to play game #1😃 I noticed that the center of roulette overlay looks a lot like a Poké ball lol

This is probably the funniest avgn video ever. Hard to believe a game console came out in '72. *fart noise*

Watch his Intellivision and ColecoVision. They were Atari’s very first competitors at that time. Plus his Pong Consoles.

If you haven’t seen it, James and Mike had a hilarious un-scripted video of them playing this back in the day. Very recommended lol

“...so you can’t go back much further than that.”
Except you actually can. The first video game, the Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) Entertainment Device was built in 1947, a full quarter-century before the Magnavox Odyssey console released. It was never marketed for sale though, so generally _Bertie the Brain_ , a primitive (by today’s standards) tic-tac-toe game, is more widely considered the first true video game. *#THEMOREYOUKNOW**🌠*

That wasn't a home console though. He said it was the first home video game console and that you can't go back MUCH further than that *console* (probably to leave room for potential error in the preceeding statement).

Chris Neo actually did a detailed video on the odyssey gun and even odyssey games not shown by AVGN, I recommend it if you want to know more.
