- my mom is going to be coming into town this weekend and I want to get the guest bedroom put together and a little bit designed so it's not the storage room that it's become since moving in hahah! I found a beautiful piece at the flea market to use in the makeover!

Hi MaCenna! I heard you mention “stretch the canvas” to tighten it up. I have worked in and around the antique/vintage business for close up 20yrs. I owned my own business for 18 of those 20 and I worked in auctions, sales, etc. and I have a string art background independently. I can tell you that if the seller was honest (which from I can tell, the age is correct) then DO NOT stretch it or wet it. Antique paintings of that age aren’t always painted on canvas. They can be on linen, or cotton even. It was more a matter of what they could get their hands on. Todays canvas and most “canvas” after 30/40s was more durable, could take a heavier weight of medium. All those beautiful vintage pieces you have already, you can go and feel the difference. It’s hard to tell from a video, but that’s pre turn of the century and the statement of “ turn of the century” can include that period. You have a few options. Time took its toll on the piece and in a way it was never taught to begin with, keep that in mind. If it really looks as if it needs that support, I’d suggest doing homework on restoration to frames of that timeframe. NOT the canvas. The frame and the art made it warrant the value. Hence why you paid what you did. Should you take the approach of altering the actual canvas, you devalue the investment and it would be a shame to harm the piece. It’s in good shape and it’s aged fairly well. It looks lovely where you put it and it has a good home. It won’t take much to make the minor adjustments, but you run a much higher risk of ruining your piece if you stretch it (it will hurt the fibers and pull the medium- you can ask your mom I feel she’d know what I mean) and also you will actually hurt the frame! Hope this helps!!!

I love that large picture in the guest room! Really gorgeous, but seriously, I wouldn’t move it up too much more than it is. I like it hung a little on the low side… especially in a bedroom where you’ll be laying down most of the time. Consider that!! 🤗
I also like the painting at the level it is hung if you will not be putting a piece of furniture underneath it such as a dresser, desk, etc. If you do that of course you would have to reevaluate based on the size.
I think it’s at the right height and the light switch appears to be centred down the side of the picture.

Beautiful painting! I had a floppy canvas like that and I sprayed a very light mist of water on the back and dried it with a blow dryer - shrunk the canvas perfectly.
Exporting TIP !!! You can export in H.264 format in final cut, the file size will be a lot smaller but the quality will be the exact same, which means a lot faster exporting and uploading to youtube! Yw

About the painting. If it is an oil painting you can clean it with a mix of oliveoil and lemonjuice. Dip a q-tip or soft toothbrush in the solution and apply with soft cirkular motions to a small section at a time and dry off with a micro fibre cloth.
The colours will really come alive!

And bad having your feet facing the door when lying down. Also there's a PowerPoint on the wall specially for a bedside table. The bed should be against the wall so that you can look out of the window.

I use Google chrome desktop to remote in to my PC when I have to be on that PC but I need to physically move around... you might want to look into that. It's exceptional, really. I mean, i know it's a niche need, but you know there are moments where you need to get going, but can't because of a website doing something. You can shut it down remotely, as well, when you're done.

For guest room night stands, since space is tight, maybe hang some type of small floating shelves on each side of bed that also can accommodate a small table lamp along being able to hold a book, mug etc.
