      Yep, the "quality" mantra which always implies mid-drive and invariably European is rubbish. If you want mass uptake of ebikes, you don't go about it by pricing bikes at the same level as used cars. There's nothing wrong with Bafang.

    For the money I'd buy the cheap one and stick some decent suspension on it. Then just change the low spec drive train bits as needed. Good on Vitus, it shows it can be done and just how much the expensive brands are gouging us.

      The SR Suntour Durolux 36/38 EQ is really good. There is an R2C2, RC2 and RC cartridge. The R2C2 is comparable to Fox Grip2, the RC2 to RockShox Charger 2.1 and the RC to RockShox Select (Charger RC) or Fox Grip. For example, the Durolux 38 EQ R2C2 can absolutely keep up with Fox Factory or RockShox Ultimate. Definitely a reasonable fork.

    • @stevowyeth
      @stevowyeth 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FINNdeischgut might well do but the these bikes come with the 36mm fork and I want the stiffness of a 38mm as I'm 105kg and ride rough and rocky trails. So if I'm going to buy a 38mm fork I'll stick with the Fox 38mm factory that I know very well and love. If someone gave me a free set of the Durolux 38 forks I'd happily try them out though, I just wouldn't spend that sort of cash taking a risk on something I'm not familiar with, especially given the reduced level of support compared to the main brands.

      I think those Vitus bikes are still expensive. The Polygon's here in Australia start from £2250 (USD 2800), they use Step motors from Shimano and similar Suntour suspension. Looks they get ripped off in the UK.

    we run our own custom brand JLC and we use bafang gear on both our alloy lower end and the full carbon high end bike. our high end with mavic crossmax wheels, Onyx DVO and all carbon runs the 48v bafang 600. it is tuned with the BEEEST control programmer and has great power delivery with run on in the 4 and 5 modes. the bike uses all carbon components where we can and deore xt. running on pirelli it has good range at 840watt and at 20.4kg it is nice 160 front and 150 rear and internal dropper. our base alloy runs deore on dt swiss wheels and is a bit heavier at 25.5kg on the bafang 510 which is also tuned. fox36 factory. this bike is quite nice as well and we are getting great recepton. we are now developing our carbon superlite bafang m820 model that looks to be coming in at 18.2kg. with 420w battery. also tuned. we are almost finished our testing and seem to be getting some places in racing under our belt. bafang is very serviceable and has become very reliable.

    For the specs, this seems great value for money. I feel the price of many full-suspension e-bikes these days is way over-priced, this has been the case for the past few years. I have stated many of the e-bike manufacturers are basically designing a frame and bolting on off the shelf parts. It's funny how we never really know the markup these manufacturers make. 4 grand is the top limit I would ever pay for a full suspension e-bike, any price above that is just crazy. I have an old Bafang system that I have had for over 5 years, never had a single day's bit of trouble with it, the motor is solid and has been faultless. I wish Vitus well with this e-bike, at £3299 starting price I'm sure this will sell very well, look forward to your full review Rob.

    The Bafang 510, does have power, but as a heavy rider, the Yamaha PWX3 and Brose Peak 3, have much stronger uphill power. Not sure on battery life. All e-bike motors seem to be the same, and battery life during a ride, depends on a riders weight, usage of turbo, and steep elevation, as well as wind speed and temperature. The Bafang 510, is a great trail-bike motor, for us riders that can't afford astronomical prices of e-bikes.

The RC is comparable to a RockShox Select or Fox Performance. I am surprised that Vitus installed the Durolux EQ in the VRS model and a RockShox Yari in the model above (VRX). The yari is far inferior. If there was the Vitus VRX with the Durolux 38 EQ R2C2 and Suntour TriAir damper, I would have bought it immediately for such a price. Great vid Rob. In the hands of a good rider that bike could highly embarass bikes costing twice as much. Nothing wrong with Suntour 36's either, would take them over many lower end RockShox (I've used both). Love that a fairly big player has teamed with Bafang, my Haibike has the Bosch Gen4 CX (pre smart) which is utterly brilliant but I would take the Bafang motor over it simply due to parts availability, servicing ability and user customisation. Bosch is way too locked down and even having people like Bearing Man around to help doesnt ease the pain of being locked into the Bosch ecosystem. In short I would take this Vitus over my £4500 Haibike. Cant wait for your full review.

      I'm new to this, just curious: what do you want/need to adjust/customise on the motor behaviour? Is this typical, or only for "powerusers"?

    • @planemo191
      @planemo191 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OersJ good question and yes for the most part, for new users, the pre set power levels and ride modes on say something like the Bosch CX are pretty compreshensive out of the box, and on later systems you can adjust them to an extent should you wish. But Bafang software is available to change pretty much everything you could ever want (including peak power), plus derestriction is easy (but of course naughty in most countries). The real draw of Bafang for me as I say is user-servicability.

It let's you get into the game, save up over the years and upgrade parts, something we all do anyway even if the parts are high end. Bafang tech is super reliable too.

    Still stupidly expensive. The non-electric Mythique is £1.6k, or about a grand on sale. I'm not going to bother comparing components but I do know a battery, motor, and controller shouldn't add £1.7-2.3k to the price of a bike so either the margins on those components is way too high or they're not offering a lower speced electric version. For a similar price you can get a Sur-ron or Talaria and they actually justify it with a bigger battery and more powerful components and a greater material cost. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to get an electric Mythique for under £2k.
