    In my opinion, Phyllobates Vittatus/ Lugubris are an excellent beginner frog. They can be kept in large ish groups. Don't have particularly difficult heating and humidity requirements (low 68-75 degrees Fahrenheit and 70%-100% humidity is fine.) They're well suited to living in bio-active tanks and quite easy to breed. Finally a minimum tank size of 18 x 18 x 24 for three frogs. Plus they get bolder with age. Lugubris care will differ slightly.

      Ya that's true with most dart frogs, minus the group living.

    Great video Mike it was great having Lucas help you on this topic. I find I can't get enough information on dart frogs I'm always looking for as much information on keeping these amazing animals I have been interested in dart frogs since the early 90's when I bought my son some toy dart frogs. It wasn't till recently that dart frogs where not in the pet trade until 1995.The only thing that surprised me about dart frogs is that even though they live in tropical rain forest they can't tolerate high temperatures. My kids think I'm crazy because I never had an air conditioner for the humans in the house but now I have one for the frogs lol. Keep up the good work

    • @jeb4373
      @jeb4373 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, they are gorgeous and active at daytime so you can watch them all day if you want! But keep in mind you have to think about a lot of things when setting up the Viv. It's highly recommended buying a book about the species you're interested in. They are written by scientists and are a lot more reliable than something a stranger drops in an online forum.

    I was curious on the most ideal isopods for a species like the leucomelas, would something as a dairy cow survive in Viv without the frogs bugging them since they are so large? Or should you get a mixture of a “large” species like the dairy cow and add in something like a dwarf white species?

    When they say 18 do they mean inches? Cus 18cm seems cruel and 18 feet is a f**ing house.

    As a beginner to keeping dart frogs, I would've rather heard common names instead of the scientific names, I don't know what any of those mean.

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly the reason we didn’t use them is because many of them don’t have common names, other than dyeing poison dart frog and that doesn’t really mean much. I would just google those scientific names and try and learn them. I remember thinking the exact same thing as you when I started in dart frogs, it’s all a learning process :)

    As they say in writing: show, don't tell. Show more pictures of frogs, thermometers, set-ups, etc. I'm not interested in frogs at all, just terrariums, but I would have watched this if it had pretty pictures. Just trying to help. I'm sure this comment will get buried by others, so it won't really be public.

    What do you recommend the best way to have a couple dendrobate tincs but not having babies everywhere. I know getting a certain sex isn’t guaranteed

      Most of the time two females... but you just have to be watchful that they aren't bugging each other too much.
