My grandfather Albert DeRosia was a chippewa indian born in the 1880s. Everyone always said he He had the biggest hands and was very strong and powerful. He joined the military at 17 years old. He later faught in ww1 where he would sleep in a fox hole. There were apparently a few occasions where he killed enemies with his bare hands. He actually wanted there to be a german so he could get some cigarettes. He was a logger and would stay in the wild for weeks at a time building power line roads. He loved hunting and fishing and being outside. He had my dad when he was very very old. Wish i got to meet him.

You are an Anishinaabe decedent not Chippewa. Ojibwe is our language the white people mispronounced Ojibwe into Chippewa You are Anishinaabe not Chippewa
We are Anishinaabe meaning “the original people” We speak Ojibwe The people that came here pronounced Ojibwe (Oh-jib-way) incorrectly saying Chippewa (chip-oh-way)
I’m a bit confused with this. I am registered with the bad river band of Chippewa Indians in Ashland Wisconsin. I read your other comment saying the white people called/changed it to Chippewa buts its Ojibwe?

I am related to Joseph Demarais (Demarie). With his two brothers, Louis and Frank, they explored the Chippewa River in 1832. "One account claims that Louis Demarais came here with Jean Brunet from Prairie du Chien in 1836, and was the first white man to bring his family to Chippewa Falls. They came in canoes and told that on the way up river they passed the Bad Axe Battle Field, the last stand made by Black Hawk a couple of days after the fight, and could see the bodies of the slain on the shore. Joseph Demarais married Angelique, who was of French and Indian blood, the couple had five daughters." I have a tin picture of 'Angelique' (her given Ojibwa name is not known), standing in a combination of traditional tribal wear and French clothing. Her long, dark hair woven into waist length braids. The family name has since changed to 'Porter' since their job on the river was one of porting travelers across the river and falls.

and DID! It’s amazing that they would rather die than actually tell the truth about this culture. Hi-jacking is the name of the game and survival of the fittest!
My daughter is a descendant of the Abenaki tribe. Are they related to the Ojibwa? She found her realatives in areas close to the Ojibwa tribe. The Abenaki has so few members that remain, just trying to help her find her connections from the beginning of Colonist Invasions. Her family was shipped off to boarding schools, or killed off. In her father's generation, it was the Catholic priests/church that raped & abused her relatives. I have NEVER connected to Religion, altho I am white & raised in a Christian home- I rejected these teachings. God is NOT inside a building made by man. The Great Spirit put it in my heart at a very young age, before I was born- that I am Native. My daughter says that my Soul comes from a Past life. I agree. White is the color of my skin, but my Spirit- my soul are connected to The Native's ways and my "Being" knows on a soul level that I am one of The People. Mitakuye Oyasin Ahò🪶 Show me the way that my steps should follow. And connect our family who is calling to Us. Many thanks for listening. I have a long relationship with friends of different tribes. Each has taught me many traditions. I am honored to be accepted as I am.
While I respect these native tribes, none of them ever built a hospital or a university and were very superstitious. Their belief in spirts and the like were probably what held them back. The video mentions that they currently operate business, wo they benefited from their association with the White culture.
First of all , if it wasn't for the Sioux and the Ojibwe in Minnesota , there would be no Mayo Clinic also this land was full of trading and enterprise long before the Migrants first came and a person could drink water from The Mississippi because it was crystal clear and clean . A person could walk through the woods here for days and never starve because food grew everywhere , also The US government copied Tribal Government Structure and it is still that way today . Many Universities today are built on Land being held in trust by The US and every time you visit a State Park that is also Land being held in Trust There are many other ways that Native American Tribes contribute to todays society and are very important to the History of the US.
Without the snowshoes and canoes when the colonists first arrived there wouldn’t have been any hospitals or universities. And our beliefs in the spirit world didn’t involve molestation of children like Christian beliefs.
With Anishnabe there is no Canadian or American. We were here before both countries so we’re actually sovereign. I’m from Canada but I can and have worked in the USA.
