I thought there would be a higher comment about the upgrade gift! So deserved giving us dedicated Lions coverage. Kind of feels like that gift was from all of us, thanks for showing our appreciation Carl!
It's been great watching Kerby's development over the past three seasons. He's just got better and better, especially in being in the right position on the field to make all these plays for the Lions defense this season. The young man is coachable, teachable, and wants to be great. Pro Bowl or no Pro Bowl, Kerby's an Elite Safety in the NFL, and it's been a pleasure watching him live at the stadium or on the TV.
Kerby's run support has improved vastly this year. In his rookie season you could see the ball skills but he was often out of position on run plays and late to diagnose screens and other sweeps. He seems to be in much better position this year on those run plays and his centerfield play has been outstanding.
Kerb went on the St Brown Brothers podcast and talked about how he plays chess with QBs. So yes, he very well allowed Purdy to get that look and get comfortable throwing it over the middle and pounced when it mattered most. High IQ, very early in his career. He will go down as top 5 DBs to ever touch the field.
Shout out to Carl/Karl for helping this channel with the technical upgrades. In addition shout out to this channel for the regular film study and analysis that is top notch, we really appreciate the hard work and efforts.
I am a lions fan (73 years) who truly enjoys your film studies. A common vocabulary mistake is my only small suggestion: FArther means only distance. FUrther is used for progression in a concept. keep up the great work!
Kerby has become my favorite player. I love his interviews too. I hope we can keep him and BB together long term. I know that with the talent we have its going to be hard to keep everyone.
Thanks Coach for showing how blessed as Lion’s fans we are for having Kerby , his grown every year! I don’t think he’s a guesser or gambler either! I think he’s a true ballhawk he reads I key better than most players and reacts with great closing speed! Thanks again Coach will done!
I forget what the exact numbers are but Kirby’s coverage grade is twice as good as the next best DB in the NFL which is a rookie slot, and everyone else is way way further. It’s not just the hawk kirby is an all around monster in every facet. And he is mean as hell
Joseph is going to be busy the week after. He won't be at the pro bowl. SB Feb 9th. Kittle had to have played soccer in the off-season because he and number 15 sure know how to dive. It's fun watching Joseph.
from my understanding it feels like Aaron Glenn tries to scheme the defense to allow for Branch and Joseph to float around on the field and make the critical plays that they seem to always make
The first INT that was called back I new Kerby broke Purdy, I saw it in his eyes and called it, telling my son he was going to get a real one right before the first real one. Even called the 2nd after seeing Purdy's face.
Just an FYI Ed Reed was 24 by the time he entered the league. Fun facts: Paul Krause (The all time INT Leader) Had 18 by the end of his second season in the league (He was drafted at 22 years of age). He had 12 INTs his rookie year and 6 the following year. Rod Woodsoon (Also drafted at 22 and the 3rd in INTs) had only 5 INTs in his first two years. So all in all I think he's in good company haha
I just wanted to personally take the time to offer props for your solid analysis back when we first signed Amik Robertson last spring. In your opinion, after watching him on film, you could tell he was not just a tenacious cover man, but that even though he was only 5-9, Amik was better playing outside. Of course all the defensive injuries have been a drag, but because of your take I've been waiting all season for Amik to get the chance to prove his metal against the elite, and on the outside. Well, he showed up tonight when given the chance. I know you saw. I just want to thank you for your honest razor-sharp take on players and the science of the game. It's refreshing, and imo, elite breakdown compared to network blather. Cheers to ya! and yes, they cost Kirby millions. How rotten, that young man is exemplary and deserved the nod.
Not concerned about the Pro Bowl voting. Now ALL Pro is where it's at, Kerby should be an ALL PRO...Kerby did make the pro bowl as an alternate but ALL PRO is what i want for him
I don’t think he’s a guesser or gambler. He learns tendencies fast and puts them in memory and is able to act on those in game. He makes adjustments very well.
Ed Reeds 3rd year and Kerbys 3rd year are looking pretty darn similar. Both have the same 9 ints and tackles extremely close. Kerby is 24 now though, Reed entered the league at 24. Pretty crazy, Id say skys the limit. Also, I heard the fans had kerby voted 1# saftey. Players and coaches didn't vote for him
I just noticed this from the wide angle, but in the second clip you showed against San Francisco there should have been a penalty called on Kittle because he blocked Campbell from covering the running back to the right side. Unless I’m forgetting a nuance of the rules when it comes to play action. I know it’s nitpicking because of the interception, but you know like consistency and all that.
But also I’m glad to have seen these angles because boy our linebackers get aggressive on run fakes. I feel like the calming presence of Anzalone will be greatly appreciated soon.
Stafford's mic'd up moment when he tells Kerby he's a dirty player was horrendous to his rep. That is typical Stafford, whining all the time. So glad we agreed to boot him. Now we have a young #1 draft pick at QB that is playing at a Peyton Manning level reading defenses and throwing accurately.
Unfortunately Kerby has a reputation around the league (unjustifiably) of being a “dirty player” not sure that the reason why he got snubbed from the pro bowl but it could be a factor
Gotta think Sam Darnold and Jefferson is going to expose the pride's defense, but I'm even more worried about Viking's blitz/pressure schemes. First quarter of the last Lions vs Vikings game is exactly how you beat the Lion's offense, in my silly opinion with zero experience. Just assuming Vikings can also adjust to Goff's play action screen passes to Gibbs or Laporta.
Good gesture though lol that's how we lost to Buffalo early jump but yeah if Lions score on first drive then they can aid the defense into a ears pinned back mode like AG preaches and they can go ahead 2 possessions which happened in Minnesota but the turnovers got them back in it
Everyone please watch Kerbys "under the helmet" production by the Lions media group.
Its outstanding.
@@lotus65 great documentary
Coach, the fans voted for Kerby. Its the media and coaches that left him out.
I mean the players and coaches left him out.
Carl, you are the man! Coach, great analysis as always, thanks for making me a less casual fan.
I thought there would be a higher comment about the upgrade gift! So deserved giving us dedicated Lions coverage. Kind of feels like that gift was from all of us, thanks for showing our appreciation Carl!
He’s not bashful in saying he’s playing for a gold jacket. He’s also a well grounded and intelligent guy who just might get it.

That’s awesome for Carl The Detroit Lions fan helped you out!! LFG DETROIT!! Ford Field gotta break the sound record this weekend

Great video coach! Go Lions!

I loved Kerby's face when Amik drops his line about coming from the dirt.
Best analysts on TH-cam. Detroit vs everybody 🎯
Lions got by far best safety room in NFL need to add one in draft still
Absolutely
Thanks Coach for showing how blessed as Lion’s fans we are for having Kerby , his grown every year! I don’t think he’s a guesser or gambler either! I think he’s a true ballhawk he reads I key better than most players and reacts with great closing speed! Thanks again Coach will done!
Fk yeah CARL!! 🤙🏻
I heard another analyst speculate that it was an invert cover 2 on Kerby’s second pick. Either way it was a great play.
@@adamsmith9109 kind of looked like it some.
Thanks for another great video coach thanks to Carl for helping you out
22:32 Ironicslly Kerby Joseph actually WON the fan vote but lost the players and coaches vote.
Been a favorite of mine ever since he entered the league, I am so happy he's a Lion.

You need to watch the back ground life story about Kerby Joseph on the Lions site, he is a great person as well!!!
I don’t think he’s a guesser or gambler. He learns tendencies fast and puts them in memory and is able to act on those in game. He makes adjustments very well.

He was number 1 in fan votes it was the players & coaches who didn’t vote for him.
KERBY NEEDS TO JUST GO AND PLAY LIKE HIS HAIR ON FIRE TO PROVE THEM WRONG...😊😊😊
Nice work Carl!!
More slow motion please! BigR does a lot of it, Excellent analysis

Thanks!
1964-1966 Paul Krause @ 24 had 20 career interceptions
I looked at him and Rod Woodson so big sample size
Ed Reed had over 20 picks his first 3 seasons if I’m not mistaken. The difference is, Ed Reed came into the NFL at the age of 24
Great video you are awesome
Kirby 1 int and Branch 1 forced fumble Sunday 🦁🙃
GOD I CANT WAIT FOR THE FILM STUDY ON THIS GAME TONIGHT!! GO LIONS!!
Great content
Paul Krause had 20 interceptions by the end of his third year (81 total for his career.
kerby's 2nd pick was on a max protect. its easier to jump route combos when there are only 3 options. %s go up
Feel bad for kerby. Just imagine him waiting for Brad Holmes or Dan Campbell to give him that pro bowl nomination and then not getting it.
He should have made pro bowl
kittle flopped like a mf. yeah there was contact but look at those arms flail as he sells it, lol
AG has said that the defensive scheme is set up for the safeties to roam and cause chaos.
That Higbee and Hockenson hits cost him more than anyone thought.
Another awesome analysis! Kerby was definitely robbed, given his states vs. Budda Baker
Is he a free safety or strong safety
Unfortunately Kerby has a reputation around the league (unjustifiably) of being a “dirty player” not sure that the reason why he got snubbed from the pro bowl but it could be a factor
Kittle flopped cause he knew he couldn't get to the ball. Got the call tho so...
I’ve been calling him the Eraser….
Kerby Joseph literally made a post tarnishing Matthew Stafford....
Because Stafford called him dirty and he's not.... Matty boy is just salty af

No
Keep blitzing. Goff is completing 77% of his passes against their blitz. And I think the Vikings only have one sack on their blitz's.
You need to watch coach's video of the first game. The Lions for Ed Minnesota out of their blitz looks because they were shredding it.
Good gesture though lol that's how we lost to Buffalo early jump but yeah if Lions score on first drive then they can aid the defense into a ears pinned back mode like AG preaches and they can go ahead 2 possessions which happened in Minnesota but the turnovers got them back in it
Ben Johnson OWNES Flores
Don’t care about the pro bowl
His first 4 picks of the season were all in the opposing endzones.... clutch as it gets.
Shout out to Karl/Carl! Great investment!
