I personally use a 3s. I have a 4S which *should* be fine but I've been gun shy in using it ever since an event that gave this channel its name (and thumbnail image)
Shame this upgraded firmware from Daniel only works on yesteryear's FX4CR. If you bought this radio today you won't be able to use this 'enhanced' firmware. Sad because I'm all about cw and Daniel's efforts are huge for Morse lovers. So fingers crossed Daniel can port to the latest FX4CR radios. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I purchased the FX4CR fairly early on, and sold it quite quickly as the display update rate of the waterfall was tortuously slow, it lagged far behind any tuning rate. Has this firmware improved the display update rate at all?
I received mine in February of 2024 and the firmware that was loaded. At that time I found the waterfall worked adequately well enough for finding signals and tuning. I plan on playing with the V2 version of the firmware this weekend on the 10 m contest. But for my use, I'm usually using the fx4cr for POTA activations so waterfalls don't play as big a role in that. I guess if I was hunting or looking for weak signals, it'd be a different story
Will this firmware work on the later FX-4CR radio’s after Yu hardware change that prevented F5BUD firmware v2 done in August 2024 to be implemented on the later FX-4CR radio’s I believe this radio was done in March 2024 and got it used with the upgraded modified Fan Mod It has the XT60 DC plug and round barrel connector for firmware upgrades ( not usb c ) and shows as VR 1.7 when it boots up which might be the upgraded board but not sure since I am the 2nd owner of this FX-4CR and came in a purple anodized case 73 Mike WB6DJI
Nice video. I have two questions, have you noticed that the DNR function is not incorporated into Daniel's firmware. Has there been any mention as to why? Also, regarding the "practice mode", this isn't documented, is it?
If by DNR you mean Noise Reduction - DSP can be enabled with a press and hold of M.V. I have not found where to adjust depth though. Practice mode is described in section 3.9.1 of the Daniel's user manual (press and hold CW)
Nice addons.I might give this a spin. Can you still revert to Yu's firmware if you want to switch back? I also wonder if Yu and Danial might eventually merge their firmware builds so we can be on the same page with the future releases. I found some mistakes in Yu's documentation and some missing items from the menu and I notified him via email. They have not been corrected yet.
Yes. it’s easy to switch back but you must write down your origninal settings -see the ‘backup section of the vid’. I believe Yu contracts someone else to write the firmware but a colab may be interesting… or a community version fully open sourced?
Thank you! Saved us hours!
Glad you found it helpful!
TY, Iam definetly looking forward to the calibration and setup video.... ty sir! NS9T

Thanks, kb2uew! 73
Hi Barry tnx for the video. Just a question: how kind of lipo do you use? 3S (11.1V) or 4S (14.8). Thank you in advance

As someone else commented - Daniel answered your wishes - there are beta versions out now for the 'R' version of the radio

I'm afraid not - 'VR' in your current firmware indicates the new hardware - old (V2 compatible) hardware runs YU's 'V' firmware.

@ Hi Barry. On the newest USB-C chassis firmware, Daniel has implemented a notch filter and not a general noise reduction filter.
@LiveWire_Guy a Notch would be nice

so does this have cw decoder ?
Not a full decoder that I've found anyway - it does decode what you key but I haven't found that it decodes what's being received....yet.
@BarryShaffer ok thanks KD9PMH 73s
@@BarryShaffer a cw decoder would be great
