- A VERY DIFFERENT LUXURY SHOPPING VLOG!! Today I'm going to be showing you some luxury shops in Accra, Ghana - we have a lot of Bottega, a few Chanel pieces, Valentino etc. It's interesting to see the kinds of styles they carry and the kinds of brands too. There aren't any luxury flagship stores in Ghana at the moment so most stores are run by people who travel a lot and will buy the items to bring back to Ghana to sell...ENJOY!

Just wanted to add - I tried to get a couple of bookings at 2 Ghanaian designers’ shops whilst I was there but sadly they didn’t have any openings but here are their instagrams in case you want to check them out: @pistisgh and @saadiasanusi 💖💖
I live in the US but my family is Ghanaian, and my mom brought me back the most beautiful Pistis skirt following my parents’ last trip a few years ago…their designs and tailoring are phenomenal!
Call me crazy or just an ignorant American, but didn't know that Ghana had such luxury stores. The SA at Versace was so knowledgeable and so professional looking. Her braids and outfit matched so perfectly

Same story in South Africa! Many fashion houses think that just because it's Africa then no one will buy when that's just not true. There are many people in Africa that are interested in luxury and buy it consistently and it's frustrating that we either have to involve our passports 🙄, pay an arm and a leg or miss out completely on amazing items just because of the misconception. Rant over lol, this probably is one of my favourite vlogs from you! My mom only watches your channel when your mom is on 😂 maybe one day they'll get to meet and complain about us 😂💕

Yeah I remember even when I visited South Africa. People back home were almost in disbelief there was shopping centres and even more disbelief that it was not just the White community out shopping & buying expensive things. People in the North really have this idea that Africa is a monolithic continent, entirely untouched by development 🙄
In Joburg South Africa you have all major luxury stores except Chanel and Hermes - Gucci, Prada, Burberry, LV, Cartier, Ferragamo, Tod’s, Versace, even Off White plus a few boutiques that sell Tom Ford, Celine, and others. However the issue is the prices are high and those with means just travel to Europe. However the LV store is always mobbed so clearly there is demand.
@@Jgutin1 this is true. However, we no longer have Prada. And the reason is that their stock was always trash. You could never find the latest collections and the stuff they brought in just wasn't it. Many people that consume luxury in SA are quite young and keep up with the global trends and collection releases so you can understand how frustrating this was for us. As for the prices, the boutiques inflate the prices astronomically. However, the stand alone stores are pretty much on par with USA prices and some items I've found are actually cheaper compared to if I had to buy it in the States for example. 😊

As a African (non Ghanian), it makes me proud to see luxury items in Africa. In the 1950-1980s lots of my family used to were Italian luxury items (a lot cheaper back than) since we were colonies by the Italian for 60yrs, we even use words such as moda, borsa, canatera, camis..etc and leather handbags & shoes was popular & much more afforable.

@@GemGem12 where are you referring, Africa is a continent of 54 countries with very diverse economies, and tourism is the main stay of countries like Kenya, South Africa and Morocco, Mauritius Seychelles et al.
@@aliciafields-worldtravelle8248 South Africa and Morocco would have luxury stores I think, I guess the more tourism and people into the stores the more they’re likely to build them

I also enjoy seeing local shops as well. Even if it’s not lux or a well know lux brand.
There are hidden gems that out there waiting for us to find.

Very interesting to see about a diffusion line. I feel like there is two types: one well made but a more everyday wearable version of the main line & one that is kinda just capitalising on branding & probably made poorly. You did a great job at showing how a diffusion line is a valid luxury experience and not all give gimmick energy (looking at you Armani)

I actually like the cream shoe your mom picked out! Looked comfortable and I'm all about comfort! I'm glad to see the Versace Collection in Accra, jumping out and taking the chance. Designers should learn that there is money, big money, in Africa! Cities like Accra, Lagos, Abuja, Cape Town, Johannesburg, and a few others have the clientele to sell!

The SA at Versace has got it all! Good brand knowledge, great rapport with the customer, an open, smiling face ( i don't know about you but some SAs at some brands /cough chanel cough/ look at you up and down almost like they're sizing you up if you can afford them) and very welcoming, definitely someone who loves their job and is doing it because she loves it.
It's also the case here in the Philippines where there is no Chanel so you have to travel to Hongkong or Singapore to buy it. Dior just recently put up a store here. And Bulgari accessories just has a pop up. But certainly there is so much interest in luxury here in the Philippines. Btw, those furniture pieces are very similar to the furniture vibe in the Philippines too. The bleached root table is a dream! Keep safe always cass. Xos
