I had a partially positively distorted view of Russian people because I mainly have contact with IT people and industry specialists from Sankt Petersburg. Even them warned me many times that they don't represent most Russians. These last 11 months opened my eyes. The ease with which Russians talk about killing, taking territory, and ruling over the independent country is scary. Russia needs deep thorough social changes.

Exactly! Because it's an "independent" country I don't care. Anything that is not ours is not valuable. Even if godzilla attack Estonia next day, I won't shed a tear.
It's true that most of IT people in Russia are against this war (and a lot of other well educated young people as well). I guess there is a reason for that: IT people usually speak english, and quite present in the internet. So they get their information from different sources, hense, propaganda doesn't work as well.

While I was just a baby when the USSR collapsed, it's amazing to hear how these people frame it. As a child, I remember my father (a US Naval officer) teaching me about the Cold War and how it developed. He (and everyone else) was very happy FOR the Russian people and was even excited to be able to visit Russia and combine the technology and progress both sides had created. Now the propagandists say we "occupied" Russia during the 1990s. Huh? At least where I grew up in the US, everyone I knew was rooting for Russia to succeed, but they went backward instead of forward.
There is some truth in that. Bill Clinton's administration, along with the world bank and some other organizations, directly influenced Russian politics with Yeltsin. The largest factor in why Russia suffered so greatly in the 90's was due to "shock therapy" of the entire economy. Which also is what led to Russia becoming an oligarch mafia state.
I grew up in the USSR and remember those times somewhat. Russians are always the same. They love a strong dictator and don't mind living in squalor. The countries that broke away from USSR are not Russia, very different and more progressive mentality.

It is one thing to support and supply arms to terrorists in Africa and the Arab countries of the Third World, but it is another thing to bombard Russian people. This situation cannot have a happy ending. A Pandora's box has already been opened. There are intelligent educated people in America. A little bit. But in general people are very stupid and ignorant. 30% of Americans can't show their own country on a world map. Judging by the comments, it is very clear that almost all Westerners do not know and do not understand the true cause of the conflict. So much for the independent Western media. It turns out that there are only lies and fierce propaganda. And then there's the censorship. After all, they closed all the Russian media so that the truth could not get through. Unfortunately, the U.S. is repeating the worst monstrous mistakes of the Soviet Union. This is circumstantial evidence of the imminent collapse of the US.

Fantastic job on these interviews. I’ve seen quite a few of your videos now, and this one really jumps to the top of the list for me. Keep at it and hopefully you’ll be able to help bridge some of the gap between our people so that future generations can have a chance at disarmament.

Despite some opinions expressed, I think most want this madness to stop and for both Ukraine and Russia to have peace.
Show us one station in Canada that presents opinions favoring the right side. It is all left or extreme left. The situation is the same in the US, where the only right channel (Fox News) was taken over by stupid people like Tucker Carlson (but this is another issue)...
I disagree. Clearly most Russians believe their country always does the right thing and this war is the result of evil acts by Ukraine, the U.S., and other western countries. They are too defensive about their own country and this war appears to make them feel strong. They will never give up that way of thinking, so Russia will always be a pariah.

I love the dude that mentioned that UA was the strongest Soviet state and the most intellectual one, and that is the reason why RU always say that fall of USSR was a great tragedy, ofc for them it was because they lost exactly that thing they lack: the intellectual people.
Yeah, but they also always say that Ukrainians are incompetent losers and that they (Russians) built everything and that they should be grateful to them despite Holodomor etc lol. And simultaneously, they claim that all nations were equal in the USSR, but somehow everything was in Russian and all decisions were made in Moscow. They say equality when it suits them but appropriate all the achievements in the USSR as their own, Russian. That applied to every former Soviet state. You should find RT's Anton Krasovsky's interview video where he says that Ukrainians trashed the Carpathians, it's the same interview where he call for Ukrainian children who refuse to be Russian to be burned or drowned. The thing is if you look at the modestly endowed Finland who managed to avoid being taken by the Soviets and compare it Russia "everyone is jealous of for natural resources" you will see who is the problem in this relationship. The Baltics are on their way to catching up with Finland, good for them for joining NATO soon enough!
They say it was a "great tragedy" because after the breakup of the old USSR, millions of ethnic Russians were trapped in states where the majority ethnicity (Ukrainians, Estonians, etc.) despised them and would never treat them as equal citizens. That's the tragedy. Putin himself referred to the USSR as "the former totalitarian state".

Russia needs an enemy - its in their DNA, its like the whole Russian system is a War machine first and foremost, sadly.
Very much so.
I grew up in the USSR and remember those times somewhat. Russians are always the same. They love a strong dictator and don't mind living in squalor. The countries that broke away from USSR are not Russia, very different and more progressive mentality.
The US even provided a big loan to Russia to prevent total collapse during that period if I remember well.
I have lived in the US for the entirety of my 61 yrs of existence and had always thought the population's level of ignorance in my country was particularly high. I now see that it pales in comparison. Keep up the good work.

I've been watching many of your videos lately. I commend you for the job you are all doing. You are presenting each person's opinion to your questions honestly. I feel you are not trying to sway or paint their opinions for a narrative. What you do is unbiased which is rare today.
Looking at the modern ukrainians now, intellect is one thing they don't have.
Intelligent people can also be subjugated, but not for long, which is why the USSR disintegrated eventually.
The word is Perestroika, not fall. Mikael Gorbachev's great achievement, the much better leader.
The most scary part to me is that the indoctrination clearly doesn't just affect people's grasp of accurate information, but their morals also.
