    I understand perfectly.
I was brought up a Roman Catholic in Ireland, born 1956.
We were brainwashed into thinking that the Catholic Church, Mother Church, was always right, that everyone else was always wrong, that the non-Catholics were out to defeat us, that Catholicism was the one true faith.
We continued to believe, despite the evidence of our own eyes.
We held on to that belief until the last possible moment.
Then, when we could no longer keep up the pretence, the whole edifice of the Catholic Church came tumbling down in a single generation.
I can see the same happening in Mother Russia.
You can fool all of the people some of the time and you can fool some of the people all of the time but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Seeing this as a German makes me happy that my country actually developed in the last 70 years. Seems like Russia got stuck and never developed. With their victory over Nazi Germany, they have forgotten all the atrocities they committed under Stalin. Unlike us, they never came to terms with it. Every German child learns in school how bad the Nazis' deeds were, how Hitler's rise came about and that patriotism can turn into Nazism. In Germany, no one talks about moving borders within Europe or the world. Civilised countries should leave that behind. There is an old saying that if a country wages wars it cannot develop positively, only countries that concentrate on themselves can grow.

Second, in what way does destroying major Ukrainian cities and slaughtering civilians help to fight against the "regime"? Russians in Russia are literally incapable of speaking honestly. Their country has reverted to being an edifice built lie upon lie upon lie.
Look at how the Russian delegation today interrupted the minutes silence for the war dead, and derailed civilian destinies, replaced it with their demand to honour the RUSSIAN ATTACKER dead - so that Russian news would cut out the actual proposer of the silence and make it appear that the international conference stood to honour RUSSIAN SOLDIERS.
The public nature of this trick, its glaring obviousness, was no deterrent: they not only performed a lie but tricked the conference into performing it too, as people listening to the translation-lag became confused about whether the silence was over or starting. The obviousness of their own lies, and the obviousness of pretending to believe the lies other Russians tell, is actually the performance of power.
This is why it is completely shameless.
In Russia there literally is no concept of truth. All is fluid.
