Im glad to hear someone praising this movie like you and Cody Leach, I feel that this is exactly what I personally want in a remake or a retelling of such a classic slasher. To have the guts to try something completely different is more smart than just making the same film and it was scarier to see that Chucky had nothing to hold him back and that he was not as vulnerable as Charles Lee Ray was in the original. I liked it a lot it gets a 7/10 for me I applaud the film makers for doing something so different.
I agree that you have to separate yourself from the Original in order to enjoy the Remake. It took me until the 1st Kill for me to do that I really enjoyed this movie and have it as my #5 in my Franchise Ranking. Hope your making a Child's Play Franchise Ranking Video

The best part of this remake is by far the relationship between Andy and Chucky. You never expect to actually feel sorry for a little robot doll, but here we are. lmao I especially love how Chucky is more like an impressionable child who simply doesn't know right from wrong, but ultimately just wants Andy to be happy.
Yeah. Not only is he a kid's toy but his AI itself acts like a child who just wants a friend. I still prefer the original Charles Lee Ray version but I've come around to this remake after seeing and hearing things about it.
That actually makes his new design make more sense. The new Chucky has a kinder, softer but uncanny look. You don't often see a slasher film where the killer is not strictly evil but also attracts a bit of sympathy.

I actually really liked this movie The cast was really good Mark Hamill killed it as the voice The kills were really good especially Shane’s and the creepy guy also Darlene’s death too (I think that was her name) That store scene at the end was awesome And I loved Chucky and Andy’s relationship I give it a 8/10 I didn’t like Andy’s friends they felt kinda boring and whatever and the cop guy I think his name was Mike I felt like they should of done more with him But in the end this movie was good and you should see it for sure I have it ranked as the 4th or 3rd best childs play movie
Damn! The generally positive feedback surrounding this remake is so surprising to me. Sure, plenty are hating it, but plenty seem to be liking it too. I seriously thought the movie looked like garbage from the trailers. I could not get over Chucky being an A.I. doll instead of a possessed one, and Chucky’s design looks absolutely awful. Even if I guarantee I will not like it as much as the original, I will give this movie a try. I hope I enjoy it. Great review, as usual!

I've watched a few of your vids, but I subbed! You seem like a cool, fair guy. I'm an 80's kid so I love Chucky and Halloween, my two fav horror franchises. I can honestly say the new CP is awesome, I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed Zombie's reboot(the first one) I think people who hate them, can't get over the originals and always have to compare or are just blinded by loyalty. It's no secret there have been worse Chucky and Halloween movies than both this movie, last years Halloween and worse than Zombie's remake. I like how this movie and Zombie's Halloween pretty much use their own interpretation (their own universe vision of) both Chucky and Michael Myers. I felt bad for both Myers in that remake given his childhood, and he just loses it. And Chucky in this movie he's not purposely evil, he's more misunderstood and just trying to please Andy by things he's learned by doing extreme things and not seeing how and why it's wrong.

Kinda wish they did just call it buddi or something really and kinda had it pay homage to Chucky and then maybe people would have enjoyed it more and not judged it as quick but I went in with low expectations and only watched the teaser trailers to avoid spoilers and loved it!

Well, it seem you loved this one just as much as I did Lee. I know Jason from Sinister Cinema Reviews didn't like and either did Doctor Wolfula. I'm glad they went the route they did with this version because we need enough possesed dolls (Annabelle Comes Home comes out Friday) in movies. I'll be ranking the Chucky films as well, should have it up by tomorrow night.
I'm obviously insanely late to the party on this review and don't even know how in the hell I missed it to begin with, since this movie was a big summer hit. But, that being said, I just bought this and watched it last night with the wife and kiddos and we absolutely loved this movie! It was very different than the original and I'm glad for that, because they didn't cop out with a shot for shot remake. There's a massive metaphor here about the dangers of AI and it gives sort of a Terminator/ SkyNet vibe which is great. Plus, that song is infectious as hell and Mark Hamill is a goddamn national treasure lol Great review Mr. Lee and very glad to loved it just the same!
i was genuinely suprised at how much i liked this movie, saw it last night with a couple of friends. im a die hard chucky fan and when i first heard about this remake i was very NOPE NOPE NOPE kinda like don mancini, but i was able to separate the movies and take this as its own and i had a lot of fun with it, some creepy moments, funny as hell moments, good killsz, mark hamill was awesome and i found myself really loving the movie. i loved how much was different and that it wasnt a shot for shot remake.. 8/10
Hey Lee I thought the movie was great. Some people hate how much they changed Chucky but that’s one the things I loved about it. I loved the new spin on Chucky. This Chucky is great in its own right. I love Brad Doriffs Chucky but I can watch 7 other movies and enjoy that version. I’ll save my other thoughts for your spoiler review.

@drumdums I couldn’t get past the visual design of this doll to begin with. Second and most importantly, I will go on record of saying Mark Hamill voice for Chucky was terrible! Just terrible! No one has yet to admit this lol. I understand this is “The Great” Mark Hamill but let’s be honest, it was so flat and lackluster of a voice over. No diabolical laughing like the OG chucky. That’s just my opinion. Also I love THE BIG BOOK on Slasher films in the background too. Well done. I have that same book. Anyway keep up the good work sir.

I found something actually called the Buddy family robot and I think it inspired the makers of the movie too call the Chucky dolls in this reboot buddi?
Loved it! I really felt empathy for Chucky at points, and was definitely rooting for him during one or two kills. It had a very deadly friend vibe to it(another awesome horror flick). Chucky was goofy and cute, but also incredibly creepy. They did a great job making this movie into their own.
Can’t wait to see it. I’ll love it. I know it’ll be better than bride seed curse and cult. I like those except seed not too much. Bride I’m still a fan of. I like cult waaaaaay more than curse. Are you looking forward to the tv show???
Lee, I just rented and watched this movie last night and absolutely loved it!!! I thought it was great, original, and truly creative. I put off watching it when it came out because like you I thought I'd hate it lol. It was awesome🙌👍. My only criticism was at the beginning the doll looked ridiculous and not scary compared to the original but got creepier over time.
I went in with low expectations and came out actually liking it better than the original! This movie was so funny, charming, and enduring. It only took me a few minutes to get over his new look, and found myself completely sucked in by the relationship between Andy and Chucky. I'm so glad I caught it tonight, because it's probably going to leave my theater by Friday. This was so much fun, from beginning to end. I love the Puscifer shirt, by the way! Just saw it yesterday. I loved and something happened to that I thought that would never happen. I cried for Chucky. He was just a good doll that lost his way. And it was heartbreaking to see his downfall from being good friend to a mass murder

i like the movie concept it target new audience since all about Gadgets and Tech nowadays. new Andy so savage, and Aubrey Plaza did well. i guess if they make a sequel gonna be either Malfunctioning Buddy again or Evil chip(depending on plot).
you hit it right on the head bro, the RZ Halloween was a perfect example. People feel too entitled with their expectations and they project them onto the films.
I had to catch myself several times from comparing this Child's Play film to the original. Once I stopped doing that, I started to enjoy the movie a lot more. I liked how they went the AI route over doing the voodoo stuff again. I found it quite clever. I'm sure on a couple more watches I will start to dig this film even more. Loved the review bro 👊
I was really pleasantly surprised by this movie. The biggest surprise was the character of Chucky for me. As opposed to Chucky being this pure, irredeemable evil, he had a vulnerability in this movie that I felt Mark Hamill really delivered on. The fact that he kills people to protect his friend, and all he wants is Andy's friendship made me feel sympathy for him. He's not evil, he just doesn't know any better. That really struck a chord with me.
When the doll design was first revealed and when the trailer was dropped, I was a little skeptical and had low expectations, but based on all the positivity of the film I'm definitely gonna give it a chance when the Blu-Ray releases.
I enjoyed this much more than the original. it works a lot better as a dark comedy. I said in my review that the whole time I just kept thinking of Robocop because of the tone of everything and then when the reference comes at the end it was nice to have that feeling vindicated. Could have used more over the top gore though, go full Verhoeven with it.
If you wanna see evil A.I. done right watch Alien, Prometheus or Alien:Covenant. This film is so mediocre. The demonic nature and charisma of Charles Lee Ray is what made the original films so entertaining and scary. This Chucky has zero charisma and isn't scary at all.
Loved it and taking my niece for her birthday so twice for me unless she picks Annabelle instead. This will be her first horror movie in theaters but I figured 13 is old enough to see a horror movie.

the fact that they wove texas chainsaw 2 into the storyline was beyond cool. leatherface from texas chainsaw 2 actually taught chucky to kill, i mean how cool is that? major points for that 1.
I also think @DrumDums I thought Chucky looked stupid as well from the photos. I do think that, the first time they showed the Buddi doll, I laughed at it because it looked so weird from the first shot but, I actually liked the look of Chucky for this modern day version.
Just finished the movie. He was actually referred to as Chucky more often. I'm very critical of movies and remakes specifically, but in my opinion it was totally done right! I loved what was done here. It works well with everything it used. In a world of remakes where even IT was the best we've had in years, and STILL wasn't the best, this was a remake done right!

Hey Lee. I loved the twisted sense of humor the film had. The outrageous things Chucky would say and do all in the name of legitimately (in his mind) trying to be a true friend to Andy was awesome. I loved that whole dynamic

I loved this movie @DrumDums I saw it on opening day on Friday at 12:15pm with my best friend David Ortega. Which was, so much fun! I loved this movie too many people hate on the movie for no reason. I loved this movie so much.

lee i know you loved cult but man it feels good to have a great child's play movie and i hope we don't have to wait long for a sequel.
Loved it! I really felt empathy for Chucky at points, and was definitely rooting for him during one or two kills. It had a very deadly friend vibe to it(another awesome horror flick). Chucky was goofy and cute, but also incredibly creepy. They did a great job making this movie into their own.
Movie was amazing, i was surprised as well. Honestly my favorite one

Lee, I just rented and watched this movie last night and absolutely loved it!!! I thought it was great, original, and truly creative. I put off watching it when it came out because like you I thought I'd hate it lol. It was awesome🙌👍. My only criticism was at the beginning the doll looked ridiculous and not scary compared to the original but got creepier over time.

I went in with low expectations and came out actually liking it better than the original! This movie was so funny, charming, and enduring. It only took me a few minutes to get over his new look, and found myself completely sucked in by the relationship between Andy and Chucky. I'm so glad I caught it tonight, because it's probably going to leave my theater by Friday. This was so much fun, from beginning to end.

Just saw it yesterday. I loved and something happened to that I thought that would never happen. I cried for Chucky. He was just a good doll that lost his way. And it was heartbreaking to see his downfall from being good friend to a mass murder
This movie wasn't even that bad it was awesome I saw it last night if anything they should make a sequel too I wanted more chucky and I felt bad for him he just wanted a friend.

i like the movie concept it target new audience since all about Gadgets and Tech nowadays.
new Andy so savage, and Aubrey Plaza did well. i guess if they make a sequel gonna be either Malfunctioning Buddy again or Evil chip(depending on plot).

I had to catch myself several times from comparing this Child's Play film to the original. Once I stopped doing that, I started to enjoy the movie a lot more. I liked how they went the AI route over doing the voodoo stuff again. I found it quite clever. I'm sure on a couple more watches I will start to dig this film even more. Loved the review bro 👊

I was really pleasantly surprised by this movie. The biggest surprise was the character of Chucky for me. As opposed to Chucky being this pure, irredeemable evil, he had a vulnerability in this movie that I felt Mark Hamill really delivered on. The fact that he kills people to protect his friend, and all he wants is Andy's friendship made me feel sympathy for him. He's not evil, he just doesn't know any better. That really struck a chord with me.
When the doll design was first revealed and when the trailer was dropped, I was a little skeptical and had low expectations, but based on all the positivity of the film I'm definitely gonna give it a chance when the Blu-Ray releases.

I enjoyed this much more than the original. it works a lot better as a dark comedy. I said in my review that the whole time I just kept thinking of Robocop because of the tone of everything and then when the reference comes at the end it was nice to have that feeling vindicated. Could have used more over the top gore though, go full Verhoeven with it.
If you wanna see evil A.I. done right watch Alien, Prometheus or Alien:Covenant. This film is so mediocre. The demonic nature and charisma of Charles Lee Ray is what made the original films so entertaining and scary. This Chucky has zero charisma and isn't scary at all.
Loved it and taking my niece for her birthday so twice for me unless she picks Annabelle instead. This will be her first horror movie in theaters but I figured 13 is old enough to see a horror movie.
I went to go see the new child play over the weekend. I didn’t really hated the movie but I actually I like the movie. I was not a big fan of the new face on the doll. I’m so ready for the new Halloween movie for next year. You have a nice day
the fact that they wove texas chainsaw 2 into the storyline was beyond cool. leatherface from texas chainsaw 2 actually taught chucky to kill, i mean how cool is that? major points for that 1.
It looks like Child's Play 2019 will be worth the wait when i go see it early July at my local movie theatre.
I also think @DrumDums I thought Chucky looked stupid as well from the photos. I do think that, the first time they showed the Buddi doll, I laughed at it because it looked so weird from the first shot but, I actually liked the look of Chucky for this modern day version.
Just finished the movie. He was actually referred to as Chucky more often. I'm very critical of movies and remakes specifically, but in my opinion it was totally done right! I loved what was done here. It works well with everything it used. In a world of remakes where even IT was the best we've had in years, and STILL wasn't the best, this was a remake done right!
