Quick question, you linked the second layer to the first layer, so when you change an input level on layer 1 it will change layer 2 level correct? If so, if you change a level in layer 2 will not change the level on layer 1?
If you copy your layer 1 to layer 2(recording mix), as you are doing your mix on layer one, does it adjust on the recording layer as well? I wasn’t clear on how it works. I use mix 11 for my recording but find myself mixing the house and recording separately and would like to have what I do in the house be what I am recording.
It does not, all that will change is the gain. All else will have to be adjusted by itself. Which is good and bad. You get independent EQ and compression for the recording layer. You can set the aux mix for Post fade and get some changes such as fader position but typically this doesn't work as well as Pre Fade assignments. Thanks for the great question
Hi Rick,my problem right now is that when i downloaded some songs to the flash drive and playback to the LS9,the output volume is too loud and cannot be control.any suggestion i can control from the faders?
You will have to use a bus since you want to use more than 1 of the inputs. Direct out would not work for this. Assign the inputs to a Bus not being used (Or use the MONO channel on the mixer) then go to the output menu of the channel and assign the bus or MONO to the output that you want to use. Hope this helps
@@rickcperry so we are using direct out for our aviom on the platform at church. I want to combine our pastors mic and our handheld mic to the same channel going to the aviom. What you suggested would work for that? If so, do you have a video on how to do that?
@@willclark1038 I would use a bus channel so that whatever doesn't fit into the 16 channel limit of the aviom can be sent down the bus. You don't want to use up 2 channels in the aviom for overheads when you can simply put them on a bus (mix channel) Then use the same bus to send the handheld and pastor mic. With this method you can add more stuff to the aviom mix but would have to sub mix it at the mixing console. We would send the pastor mic, the overheads, the backing tracks and video feed down mix 16 on the aviom so that there were more channels available to add to the avioms. Hope this helps
@@willclark1038 on the output setup of the mixer. Go to where you see outputs 1-8 and 9-16, there you will see slot 1 (1-8 and 9-16) / slot 2 (1-8 and 9-16) this is where the aviom card gets the channel assignments 1-16. When you select slot 1 you will see the assignments at the top of the strip. Typically something like slot 1/output 1=CH 1 (kick) then slot 1/output 2=CH 2 (snare) and so on... Determine where you want the mix bus, say it's slot 1 output 16.. scroll over and change the assignment to the mix bus you will use...Example MIX 8. Then whatever you send down mix 8 will show up on the Aviom output #16. It can get confusing but take your time and you will get it.
I have a problem with send an effect to one of my mixes, I really want to know how I can send a reverb for example to the output (monitors) but no send the effect in one channel but to the monitors, Thanks!!!
Hi Rick, Thanks for all your video, I am an amateur when it comes to the ls9 so your videos are helpful. My question is how do I link a selection of faders and make them static so the volume is only controlled by the master fader? Hope im making sense?
Well sorta already this way by default, just don't touch the faders. If I were to want such an item, I would place the channels on a Matrix send and bus them to the main fader.
Hi Rick. Do you have a tutorial for setting up live stream through an LS9? I just joined a church that is currently using the headphone jack. I don't like it and would prefer the use the 32-64 channels to setup a separate sound for live stream. Also, we are using the Aviom on the 32-64 channels and bypassed the prefaders. Could we still do that and live stream through those channels.
Hi Rick, my issue is that the sound being recorded ends up being at a very low level on the thumb drive. Is there a setting where I can make it record at a louder level?
I don’t know how many years I’ve revisited this (4-5) and I think I finally got it! 😂😂😂 (GREAT JOB!) I’m just curious: what “out” is the copied channel going to and what “out” is 63 and 64 going to? Our board was set up a long time before I came along and it looks like even after copying, let’s say Ch 20 to 51, ch 51 doesn’t have any sound detection… do you have a vid or a good reference for initial setup? I think my copied channel says it’s out is slot 2… (I should have made this comment while at the board 😅)
I used out 63 and 64 for playback audio. After you copy the channels 1 to 33/ 2 to 34 etc etc... Go to channels 33-64 and change their mic pre inputs. Channel 33 will now use input #1, channel 34 will use input #2 etc.. etc.... Move the cursor over and on top of the input channel and change the input 33 to use 1. Hope this helps
Hi Rick...it is Aug 3 2014.. I appreciate your dedication on this important sometimes overlooked by ls9 teachers recording technique that just makes this Yamaha even more a nice fit.We have it recording at 48 can we adjust the rate to 441?How? When I take it into Audacity per the Flash Drive the warble happens hard limiting-maybe I have to increase amp input? Thank again..I'm in Southern Ca
Great points Rick. I thought if we did increase its gain that would help immensely(before recording)...we borrow the facility so tough training on it yet when I bring it in to edit I do have to crank hard limiting and maybe that is the rub? yes it plays fine prior to treatment:)
Hi, Thank you for your video! It was very informative. I am hoping you can tell me how to record a live mix, but have the ls9 send out individual .WAV files so that I can mix all the instruments and vocalists as individual tracks in protools after the performance. Any advice??

Glad it helped!

How do you send the second layer to mix 11/12?
I want to use multitrack and send it to get mastered. Any suggestions?

And are the recording's any good, like does it sound like it does coming out of speakers.
Hi Rick, can this console be used directly for multi channel live recording (without using any peripherals like a DAW or something)...?

So this Mixer can't support multiple track rec to The PC
It can with an add on card on the output expansion.

I have not used one in quite a while since I moved from Marathon Church. Still know my way around them pretty well tho
